Team Spirit

We all are forgetting the past achievements of Greats Like Sourav and Rahul!!!!Dhoni can boast abt his captaincy but he was fortunate enough to get Quality Players...who were matured by Sourav and Rahul.....Dhoni himself should consider his fitness as a worry on the team.........Selectors please please select player who perform under pressure rather than them who make hay when sun shines......

selection

I think players would not mind being dropped as long as they make it to IPL and consequently the money. I am not too sure if RP singh should have been retained or Dinda or some one could have been given the nod.

true. gony/trivedi hv been very successful and the most underrated bolrs. even munaf patel has been doing good.

rp and ishant hv been super flops on current form.

in the batting dhavan has been outstanding n consistent. dhawan/gambhir combination is good for opening slot.

One must confess that after world cup 2007 disaster the selction has been pretty good.. good job from selectors again... Thanks to IPL.. there are many talents in the que now ..so these selected players will have to be at there toes to perform else would have to give plasce to others..a good sign to Indian cricket

Bit biased selection...
by Readiff on May 30, 2008 07:56 PM  | Hide replies

The selection of team is bit biased and assessed the new players like Y. Pathan and Ojha prematurely and amateurishly. Though chief selectors saying that the 20-20 performance would not be considered, the selection list seems to be proved otherwise. What is surprising thing for me is how Robin Uthappa is judged better than Ganguly or Shikhar Dhawan or Laxman? Uthappa had worst 20-20 record among all IPL team mates in the selection list. Dhawan has better consistency and fantastic fielding compared to dumb fat uthappa. It is clear that Dhoni and Co are showing some favoritism.

Ms patil, understand you have a limited knowledge of cricket , are you aware how many runs both Saurav and Dravid scord in the tournament. Selectors have only given in to Dhobi sorry Dhoni request for Chamchas , these guys will be racalled back when the real stuff comes. Except a few players , youngsters including Yuvraj and Dhoni has not proven themselves as yet in all these years

Make Raj Thakeray the selector. There will not be any one from UP or Bihar or Jharkand. Dhoni will be out of the team first.

Ghavri and Azad opined that the performance in Twenty20 cricket should not be taken too seriously as the shortest format of the game was more about entertainment.

"You don't have time to show your class in this shortest version of cricket. It is about hitting only. Real test is 50-over-game and

Test cricket. Sachin, Sourav and Dravid are a proven force in that.

"Age should not be the criterion for selection. Sanath, Pollock, Mcgrath and Sourav have performed well in IPL despite their growing age. Form and fitness matters," said the former selector.

If 20-20 performance can not be considered for ODI selection then test cricket performance should not be considered as well.

Gaekwad felt that the star veterans performance, though average, could not be dismissed either and was no criteria to judge them for ODI and Test cricket.

"Sourav has done well. Sachin and Laxman were injured. Although Dravid has disappointed. Still I believe that you cannot call them off on the basis of their performance in Twenty20 cricket," said Gaekwad.

"They have not failed although they are not amongst the runs. You cannot ignore their background and the class they are showing for the past 10 to 12 years," he Ghavari.

"But then they have to admit that growing age has affected their fielding which is an important aspect of international cricket. They must work hard in this area to prolong their international career."

Former selector Kirti Azad also felt that fitness and form and not age should be the criteria to select a team.

Ganguly scored 349 runs in his 13 IPL innings. He was adjudged man of the match twice. He is also one of the most economical bowlers of the tournament at a rate of 6.40 and has six wickets in his kitty.

Tendulkar could play only six matches due to his fitness problems. The right-hander scored 148 runs and could smash only one six during the tournament.

Dravid, on the other hand, made 360 runs from 13 innings. Compared to this, Sri Lankan veteran Sanath Jayasuriya has scored 460 runs at an average of over 40, while Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has aggregated 523 at an average of 43.

Sourav has done well. Sachin and Laxman were injured. Although Dravid has disappointed.

Is it based on runs or something else?
