Chepauk.. But more than the records, what stands out at Chepauk is the atmosphere and the crowd, reputed to be the most knowledgeable and appreciative in the country. This was proved when those present gave a standing ovation to Saeed Anwar after his record breaking 194 against India in the Independence Cup match in 1997 and again when Pakistan won the Test match in 1999. A truly overwhelmed Pakistani team even made a lap of honour in appreciation of the spectators' sporting behaviour. EDEN GARDENS: At times though, the fervour has spilled into excess, with riots disrupting matches against the West Indies (1966-67) and Australia (1969-70), and a shameful exhibition of boorishness causing the World Cup semi-final against Sri Lanka (1996) to be called off with the visitors on the threshold of victory..

The maturity shown by Chennai spectators during the 1999 match you are mentioning, resulted in deescalation of tension a mark of India- Pak matches in those days. It was a victory for Chennai spectators and sporting culture it fosters. The differnce between Calcutta and Chennai stands out and needs no mentioning.
In Chennai one of the test matches in the last australian series was drawn due to rain. Also the last oneday international was washed out. The forecast this time around is no good either. TheBBC forecast for Chennai is first 3 days heavy showers, 4thday light showers with sunny spells and fifth day heavy fog!! God knows if we will have even a single bsll bowled in this test match!
