Kumble should retire
by rani sen on Mar 13, 2008 03:44 PM  | Hide replies

Kumble is older than adam gilchrist and yet gilly is a much better player than him. gilly has just retired from cricket saying he has no form when his stroke is still strong and he was going well.

kumble was having a thousand sixes hit aginst him. and gilly says that he is out of form! what about kumble then. plus hi age is a very big factor. the big guy is almost 38 and he is no tendulkar to play cricket until he dies...

so when will he retire??????????????????????????

Kumble was never a great turner on cricket bowl
but still manages to get over 570 wickets.

just imagine if he could spin the bowl like shane , murli than he should have pick more than 700 wickets

So we have to give him the credit that he deserves

If age is the ONLY criteria for retirement, then all our politicians, Netas, Mantris, MLAs, MPs will be in their 20s or 30s and wearing suits and not sporting pot-bellies....

Noble thought indeed!!!

Say, I wonder what happens to your husband (assuming Rani Sen is a woman) when he crosses 38. He's bound to cross 38 after 37 isn't it??

May be the poor chap will be forced to retire and spend the rest of his life in an "Old Age" Home while the younger Rani Sen will start hunting again....

What say guys???

If age is the factor, then what is hayden doing in OZ team?? It is all but the form and fitness that matters and nothing else.
Look at bevan in ICL, he is more eitter than yngster in his team and is still going strong!
Kumble still has the magiceffect in his balling and he proved in the last series against OZ.

Kkrish, could you please tell me how old are you? Remember, age may bring in aggression and strength. To sustain it, you need experience. Without experience, ONLY aggression and strength cannot run the game for you for long.

What we need is a blend of experience and youth in the team.

Can you imagine the results if the U-19 team is branded as Team India and sent on a tour of Australia?

They will make mince-meat of our U-19 kids and pack them back, OK.

What exactly you mean by "Thunderworks" anyway?

I challenge Yuvraj Singh to hit 6-sixes once more.. T20, ODI, Tests, gully, ranji, anywhere..

It was a one-off incident. After T20, look what happened to his performance in the recent Aus tour????

What thunderworks you are taking Kkrish??? Use some of the cells which are absent in between your ears.

it is a forum to put view on the topic published. U simply have to comment on the topic provided no personal comments. And yes, thunderworks means ability to run fast(Ishant), ability to take catch(piyush chawla), ability to take presure(rohit), Now the opposite of these:unable to take pressure(Dravid),unable to chase bowl(Ganguly),
Why these players be included in the team who fails to perform on the field. Nowadays, cricket requires all rounder atleast in 2 out of 3 areas.
Hope it clarifies the meaning of thunderworks!!

HARD HITTER
RE:ENOUGH THESE PLAYERS
by HARD HITTER on Mar 13, 2008 04:27 PM
Well krissh not always matches are won by thunderworks!!!
Running fast doesnot mean balling accurately and consistently, even pravin took wickets, but he is not not running fast!
Piyush is in team for his balling and till date he has not proved his skills. Talking about rohit, he has shown sustainibility, but he is inconsistent, he needs some more matches to prove his ability.
now we have youngsters like uttapa, yuvraj, pathan and Dhoni. how consistently is their performance? Yuvraj and uttapa are in team as batsmen, but every single time they have failed!
what about dhoni? he cannot find a single gap when he is batting and the fact is that the number at which he bats requires brisk scoring(in form of singles and douubles). what was his contribution in test!
Now talking about seniors dravid and VVS are the best slip fielders in india's cricketing history. sachin seldomly gives chance to speak about his mis-fielding. regarding batting of these guys, their record speak for them.
look in the current OZ test and CW series and neglect seniors contribution from it, we would have ended losing whatever we managed to win.

exposure is definitely needed. agreed but not at the expense of all the seniors. rest seniors one by one and not all at once. this way younger lot can be nurtured under the guidance of seniors for a few matches and then they can take over the mantle by the time the seniors retire completely. this should be the criteria.

Thanks for your clarifications Kkrish.

I do agree that it is a forum. But I do disagree that "U simply have to comment on the topic provided". You do not have to pressurize yourself into posting a comment if it has a meaning that others want to seek clarification.

Agreed "Thunderworks" according to you is a wonderful definition. But that is NOT the only criteria to select the team you see. Ability to run fast - Ishant, good bowler no doubt. We need him to take wickets. We also need someone like Viru, Sachin to stand and open the score with a big bang for us.

Ability to take catch - Piyush. Yes. But you see he's a bowler and let us say, if he gets hit like a street dog on the field by someone like Hayden for 20-fours in his 10-overs? Will you say he's useless and throw him out of the team?

Ability to take pressure - Rohit. He did good. But the kid is learning still. Let him respond to atleast 5 more such pressure cooker situations. Then we will see his actual worth. Isn't it.

You are absolutely right we do need all rounders who can run well, take wickets and hit a couple of boundaries when needed!!!

And i agree on sachin's inclusion but how come viru deserv place in the test squad. He totally failed in the previous matches. How long u want him in the squad. u shld expose ur young players so much that they perform in any kind of situation. Australian never compromises on their playing squad. Mark waugh was immediately removed from the squad.

You are right There is lot of thunderworks when we have squad full of young players. But that thunderwork comes from the opposite team's bat. Sreesanth, Uthappa and so many others are just one match wonders!

Why should selection be based on age? Why not just sheer form? In form players get to play and out of form players should be coached at some world class facility which should be developed by BCCI.

test is real cricket. In test we need experience and solidity!!.
We have all seen how difrent is test from ODI .
We don't want our test team to lose by lesser teams.
However I do feel unless kumble performs extraordinarily against SA, time has come for Kumble to retire after SA series.
He would not succeed in Sri Lanka.

Aishwarya Patil, do you know that Aishwarya Rai is about 35, but still looks very young and considered one of the most beautiful girl in the world.

Its rather the mind than the body which makes the person old.

Kumble has been one of the most consistent bowlers India has ever got. I wonder why he is been ignored in one dayers! He is quite economical, and takes wickets too. He has also improved as a batsmen! I am sure he would be a better choice than some erratic bowler like Sreesanth.

Aishwarya Patil, just like I cannot decide when you should retire, I request you not to pass any judgments about someone else!!!

Just because Dhoni is playing good, packing off the seniors and asking them to retire reminds me of a joke:

(This is the most joked community of people in India)

He gets hungry. He eats a paratha. He's still hungry. He eats 2nd one. 3rd, 4th, 5th. He's almost full. He then eats the 6th Paratha. He's completely full now.

Then he starts to cry. Someone asks him: What happened? Why are you crying?

He sobs and replies: Had I eaten the 6th Paratha first, I would have saved the first 5 Parathas.

Similarly, just now Dhoni won 2 major tournaments, we should ignore the services of the seniors?

Weren't you a senior 2 years into school when your juniors felt that you were old already?

Think about it...

Dhoni has had a fair amount of exposure and he wd get more exposure only when he is made captain of the test side. So far, he has fared extremely well. I think he shd be made captain for the India-SA series. The impact of having a younger captain has been fantastic. While we lost the test series in Australia(though we might have won many hearts,) the younger captain and his youthful team actually did what no one would have expected them to do by winning the T20 WC and ODI series down under

Forget about a leather ball. Stand and face a tennis ball hurled at you at 140 kmph...

chess n billiards is played even at the age of 40 plus. as long as the body permits, and fitness prevails, one can play the game. Just watch the ODIs again. Though we have won, one will find that there definitely was a dire need of one more experienced player in the top 4. Likewise, though we have lost (on record - unless for gr8 steve chucknor and mike pocker we would have won), the seniors have shown the guts against the best team in the world. criticising the seniors for the sake of criticising has become a fashion now a days

Hi Mistique, what about Feroze Khan playing younger brother to Neena Gupta and Mukesh Khanna?

What about Govinda playing hero to someone like Twinkle Khanna?

What is wrong if someone plays as long as their bodies permit?

Please remember sir, in another 20-years, someone would stand behind you in the queue and scold you for being a buddha or an oldie.

Or for that matter, how often you call your father a buddha and an oldie. I am sure your father is definitely 50 .

Would you ask him to get into a moving bus???

What greatest joke is it to you?

Wow!! Mistique. I must say I am impressed with your choice of sport called Kabaddi.

Very good choice indeed.

Yes, it is healthy, team-based sport, part of Olympics...

Good choice Mistique.. Keep it up.

Well, some people like yourself prefer games like Kabaddi. But a lot of us like myself like Cricket. Just so as your choice is the best to you, so is ours.

Please do not criticize something just because YOU do not like it personally. We all have our freedom to like what we like.
