Hello Mr.Nagendra,

If any body comment about others, it doesnt mean he sould be better than the person he is commenting....Please grow up. If the case is as per your views, then Dilip vengsarkar cant pick a team and gavaskar cant comment on any one. More importantly, we cannot have Venkatesh prasad as a bowling coach, coz we know his bowling abilities were very restrictive. So stop searching data about the people who comment. See whether the comment is valid or not. Accept if you want or leave it. Anyways, the comments made by that person are his personal view and it is not forced onto anyone.

well guys i believe that sachin would have scored these centuries evenif sanjay wont have criticised. So all this stuff of sachin [erformed well only because sanjay criticised him is pure rubbish.

Secondly a constructive criticism is always welcome.Problem arises when we generalise things and attack individuals due to personal vendetta.

your are right rajeev,

What manjrekar said was just a constructive criticism. Though he knew the backlash he would get for those comments, he still praised sachin and said the expectations from him were more and especially in crucial junctures. So he has to set right his intent and there was nothing wrong with his technic.........So for me this is constructive only. if people find id otherwise.......then be it.

BTW, what is manjrekar going to achieve by commenting negatively about sachin.... ( only the backlash he is recieving now)

Whoever reads Manjrekar's outburst against Sachin can understand there is more than just cricket. There is a personal agenda , and to me it looks like that is the ouster of Greg Chappel. When Greg Chappel went out, Sanjay wrote "Chappel held a mirror" or something like that. I can give hell lot of reasons why Greg's exit was good for India. Greg concentrated on throwing the seniors out rather than grooming younsters, dividing the team rather than building the team, showing the middle "finger" rather than waving the hand. Afterall which team needs a coach who shows middle finger to the public( I have seen a photograph which clearly shows this). Ian Chappel critcised John Buchannan's contribution saying that Captain is 95% and coach is only 5%. But I believe Greg Chappel wanted the other way around. What ever may be, Greg Chappel should learn from Buchannan in how he handled his ego with Shane Warne.

After the Australian Series...

Ian Chappel and Sanjay Manjrekar -- " Mirror Mirror, what happened to our expert criticsm, Sachin is playing magnificiently"

5 minutes gone, But no reply from Mirror

Ian Chappel and Sanjay Manjrekar - "Mirror Mirror are you there"

Mirror replied " Hold on I am searching all available dictionaries in the world to find out whether they have changed the meaning of 'expert' to 'biased' or 'Prejudiced' "

Perfect.... you 'mirrored' my feelings exactly...!:)
There a few self-styled 'critics' who criticised Sachin - but at least some (read: Mike Artherton) have the courtesy of accepting their short-sighted criticism later... but not these 2 jokers...! I still don't understand why these so-called critics don't have the courtesy - if not courage - to accept that they were mistaken in their criticism ... when they are proved worng so comprehensively....!!!!

Hell Mr. Ravi,

Though I accept your views, I would like to say that, sanjay manjrekar was the first person to praise him after he got a century in the first final. He said, this is the way people expect sachin to perform and he has done complete justice to his caliber. So please dont manipulate things. Dont have hatred against him, just coz, he commented against sachin. See the reality and be happy for what sachin has done. Thats it......

Honestly - I didn't see any statement / column by Sanjay praising Sachin after century...! Even if so, I still have a reservation ... you make some sweeping statements about a successful person and when he proves you wrong ... you simpply "express" your happiness about it...and expect the issue to be closed...??!! How is this right? Don't you have to "ADMIT" that your statement earlier was a wrong one..???
Your comment above also suggests (a very thinly veiled one though) that Sachin has performed because Sanjay has criticised... if so, nothing can be a bigger joke than that...! Sachin is a seasoned cricketer who knows that he must perform to be in the limelight...! Attributing that to comments made by SM is .. well... nonsense..! (sorry - if the usage is harsh..!)
In reality - Sanjay defintely has a personal agenda..! He has been trying to do this for quite some time..! (Remember - when Sachin has cut down some shots to be a little slow - SM commented that Sachin has "fear of failure"..? When Sachin's name was being discussed about Captaincy recently - SM criticised the "retrogradory step" - never mind AK's choosing later was also the same...! When Sachin declined captaincy - it appeared to SM that Sachin "realised" his "lack of leadership" qualities....!!!!) Nothing wrong in Personal Agenda (every one - including great Sunil Gavaskar to Ravi Shastri till the joker Sidhu - got their own agenda... anyways) but you should have the courage to accept your failures too...!

Wow, now you give credit to Manjrekar fow waking up Sachin, as if he was lethargic? Sachin knows better than Manjrekar if he is playing well or not. Just 2-3 failures and everyone starts talking about Sachin and offer him free advice. If Manjrekar's intentions were to wake up Sachin then his criticism would have been constructive not the way it was.

I think we should not criticise neither. Sanjay told that early dismissal of Sachin was creating pressure. I think it was true. We have seen how matches are won when Sachin took the reins and we also understand what could have happened if Sachin failed in the two finals.
Sanjay for some reason is always taken in negative but his statements everytime helped get the best out of Sachin.

Well said.......explorer,

We people are very narrow minded. Why do we get so offended when statements are made against induviduals.......??? I agree sachin is Greatest of Greats. But still he can be told to pickup his game when he is not performing. We should speak with respect to the team's views and our country's views, not just get offended for remarks against any induvidual....
BTW, even Dhoni said, 1,2 and 3 players should contribute and coz of their failures the team is suffering.........What does that mean....Its directed towards Sachin in a way and by doing so, Dhoni is not against Sachin, he wants him to be the backbone of the team in winning causes.

Often we find here in rediff, we keep fighting for induviduals and not for a nation's cause......Come on guys be more broader in your views....!!!!

Let them win a major tournament first and then money will automatically flow. In hockey they did not even qualify for Olympics. Indian cricketers started getting lots of money after the 1983 WC win as it made cricket more popular than it already was.

My Dear Friend,

Just to refresh your memory - India has won 8 gold medals in the Olympics (which no other country in the world has done) ALL THIS when there were no rewards for performance - just passion for playing for the country.

The problem today is the lack of motivation. Rather than just criticizing the players for not qualifying for the beijing olympics it is better to support the team.

Wondering how - start a 'campaign for restoring the lost glory of Indian hockey', a radical change in the organisational set-up will go a long way to remedy the current situation.

If you had watched the matches - our current players really played well - the fault lies elsewhere.

Like a TV channel did the 'save the tiger' campaign - let someone do 'save our hockey campaign' - you will see the change.

It is also unfortunate that the current state of organisational affairs in which a Member of Parliament commented that 'Mr. KPS Gill should be kicked-out'.

Let's encourage our hockey players and let a few film stars do something for this - all will be well very soon.

Hi Satya Kumar,
I agree to many of your views.
The game Hockey has given us some glorious moments...! I also believe that Indian public are more passionate about Cricket than Hockey...! But I think we shouldn't forget that we are in a free economy / society...! We can't bend people's opinion in favour of Hockey - just because it happens to be India's national sport...! It is Hockey, the game itself which has to change the public's opinion in its own favour... not the other way around...! I don't know how many of us ever visited any Hockey matches any time; I went to a couple of turnaments... lot of times, public don't even understand what is happening there...! The way things happen make it so boring to watch...!! The game Hockey should re-invent itself in India and equally importantly - it should be better packaged. When we can have Cricket being offered in new forms (Read: Twenty 20)- why not hockey...?? I think the Hockey federation should take a leaf (or a million of them) out of BCCI's books... to market the game in new and better packages.. Till then, we are going to see more of these scenarios..!
Lastly - I fully agree with your view that mr. Gill should leave the game forthwith...!
