its true, More showed more resolve in decision making than vengsarkar. Although vengsarkar has given the Captains needs some importance than others except MORE and so i do give him some credit but otherwise it wasa debacle of a selection for the World Cup 07. I do not entirely blame Selectors for it but if you will send players out of form into World Cup then you cannot expect them to strike gold for you, can't happen.

INDEED HE IS, and i quite like the suggestion for himto stay on as an Assitant coach. But above all we should keep Robin Singh and Venky Prasad, they have DONE AMAZING WORK. And more needs to be done with our young brigade.

It is funny to criticize Vengy while appreciating Rajput. Vengsarkar's panel did quite well in bold selection when many cricketers emerged from not too popular regions.

WHY DO WE NEED KIRSTEN? RAJPUT JOINT OUR TEAM SINCE THE T20 WORLD CUP...WE HAVE DONE EXTREMELY WELL SINCE THEN..I THINK HE SHOULD BE THE INDIAN COACH... BCCI SHOULD ENSURE THAT PRASAD AND ROBIN SINGH CONTINUE...THIS IS A GOOD TEAM MANAGEMENT WE HAVE!

Congrats to Lalchand Rajput
by Dinesh Pai on Mar 11, 2008 11:42 AM

Congrats to Lalchand Rajput for guiding the team to victories in both the 20-20 World Cup and tri series in Australia His experience as coach of India A team and now as the assistant coach is certainly an asset to the Inian team, though he was not as gifted as star batsman as Sunil Gavaskar or others his role as the coach certainly takes him to greater heights as his role can be similar to Ex Australian coach like Buchannan who was instrumental in guiding the Australia to many victories in eight years Rajput and also the contribution of Venkatesh Prasad and Robin Singh should be taken into account and a great and champion team for the World Cup 2011 should be built and their contract should be till WC 2011.Gary Kirsten had big role but Rajput,Prasad and Robin can understand the Indian team better then the foreigners as all these victories as proved because now we players not only from the metros but also other rural places who can interact and discuss freely with the Indian coaches.

cricket hoging limelight
by BNN on Mar 11, 2008 11:38 AM

i think the IPL now is the final nail inthe coffin as far as the future of other sports in india are conerned. Its really sad to see this happen.
When indian hockey was at its peak, there was no electronic media and not much sponsorship. But after india won the first world cup, during this time electronic media and sponsorships had started to happen, since then, cricket caught the fancy of the nation. If a country loves a sport, there isnt much you ca do to change it and that too in quick time, yes the government can definitely take some money from the BCCI and put it into developing other sports, but dont see much changing in the near future.

Rajput's words r absolutely correct for Sachin
by sunil vyas on Mar 11, 2008 11:21 AM  | Hide replies

India%u2019s win in Australia was just unthinkable without the support of this legend, just see, Sachin scored highest runs in all 3 three matches that India won in Australia or India would have definitely lost all 3 matches and even India wouldn%u2019t have reached the finals. Anybody who knows cricket deeply will easily understand this fact. Even in first final it was Sachin who made Rohit to make a stand with him, also everybody knows that when Sachin is at one end then he just makes the batting easier for the partner as the whole focus and strategy of opponents is on Sachin and also Sachin keeps on giving tips on different types of bowling. Facing the new ball was main and the only problem of Indian batsman and Sachin just made it look very easy by keeping his wicket intact in initial attacking over and then attacking very sensibly and intelligently. Even in second final it was Sachin was who made Utthappa to make stand for a big partnership of 94 runs, hence proved Sachin is a big team man who gets along with any player. So in all it was Sachin who made the big difference. After Sachin young bowlers r to be given the credit and not the young batsman.

Tendulkar has shone as the one man gladiator for India. SOMEONE once said "an expert is someone who knows more and more about less and less until he knows everything about nothing". The same applies to those experts who have conferred upon themselves the right to come hard upon someone who I would term a national asset. Tendulkar outweighs statistics and numbers. That is reflected in his altruistic and dedicated batting which thoroughly impresses the cricket experts. Tendulkar is a match-winner, although in a team of 11 when everyone gives his best it would be an overstatement, but the number of times that Sachin has put India within sniffing distance of a victory is a sign of his class and commitment. Many criticize him for he has not won some one-day finals in the last few years? But how many of these finals would we have reached but for Sachin? Does it not take a match-winner to win the matches which take us to the final?

Sachin is a match winner in his own right. It is not just because of his cricketing brilliance. Its because of his sheer presence, which motivates the players and also sends shock waves into the opposition. I still remember Shane Warne in Channel 9 recollecting his duels with Sachin. Nothing can unsettle this genius. He goes on and says for a player like Sachin "we need to work out many strategies to get him out". This is where Sachin becomes a match-winner. He always keeps the opposition guessing. Kapil Dev, Gavaskar, Vengsarkar, Azhar, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly are match-winners, but Sachin is greater than them because whether he scores or not, he keeps the opposition on their toes. The very fear of the rival bowlers makes Sachin a match-winner. Tendulkar holds the record for winning the maximum `Man of the Match' awards in one-day internationals. India has won almost 80 per cent of the one-dayers in which Sachin has scored a century. Sachin is an emperor in world cricket

Suggestions to BCCI
by Rajnarain Gouda on Mar 11, 2008 10:55 AM  | Hide replies

1. Since Kirsten has been officially appointed coach, it is now not nice to go back on his contract with BCCI. So let him take over as the chief coach of Team India.

2. Lalchand Rajput has done a remarkable job in the assignments given to him. He should continue as Assistant Coach. Often there are communication problems between foreign coaches and Indian players. Rajput may help tide over such problems and be able to keep the team spirit alive.

3. One thought that BCCI gag on the selectors and chairman of selection committee is still operative. How can Vengsarkar break this rule? Why talk about a player in public? By the way does Vengsarkar recollect how many years and matches he took to establish himself? He may think that public memory is short. He made his debut in Jan 1976 and scored his first half-century in his 20th innings after 2 years. His first hundred came in Dec 1978 in his 30th innings. He played a total of 185 innings in test matches out of which in over 90 innings he scored 25 runs or below. Now does this kind of a profile entitle Vengsarkar to make critical statements of about Yuvraj? BCCI should ask Vengsarkar to shut his mouth and concentrate on selecting the best possible team to play for India.

Well written, good to see someone is being so thoughtful. I must say even though we have some youngsters selected, Vengsarkar does not seem to be an intellectual enough person to have initiated this, must have bee nthe captians asking for the players. I don't rathe this man highly either.
