I agree and support Kapil in this regard. How narrow thinking are those guys who have posted messages on this board against his 'OPINION' and trying to character degrade the MAN. Yes there are many factors like Healthy balaced food, Financial circumstances, Family circumstances, Playing infrastructure, natual talent etc...not to mention some encouragment from locals ! all blends and adds to the bulding of a class sports person.
While India is racing forward more swiftly than almost any other country economicaly and technologicaly....and we are all proud of it. But we need our people to enjoy and have proper recreation. No matter what sport they play or what Art they practice, I think they should be encouraged and nurtured.
Please don't be saddists... you may not have the chance to experience it, but please let the younger fellas enjoy and grow up playing sport and Arts...It is time that our Govt. treat the Youth and sports portfolio with great importance and give it more life and blood!

Food is not important. Medals and honor is lot more important.
Look at Kenya. They don't give any value for human life. They kill each other and people die of malnutrition. Does thier government care about thier citizens?? Of course not.
Then why should Indian government care about Indian citizens.
India should go for medals. Life is not that important.
100 years from now people will remember the medals. But they won't care whether we lived 10 years more or not.
We have billions of people, we shouldn't care too much about people living in poverty.
Corporates have funded enough for cricket. But other sports require infrastructure. There is corporate participation even in other sports. There are tennis courts/badminton courts at clubs, etc. At school level the importance given to sports is not so good. There is lack of sports infrastructure at schools. Each school should atleast require a football ground and many schools lack that in India.

I agree with you till "Fundamental problem is food" But, in different perspective. The sportmen in our country do not win medals because sports for them is secondary income. They work primarily and earn their bread and butter from their work instead of the sports they play. By playing sports alone they cannot make the money needed to live a decent life themsleves and for their families.
P.S. When I am talking sports above I am exclusing Cricket. Cricket is not a sport in India. It is a means of earning money, and entertainment. The entertainment has reached its peak with the IPL launch. Cricket has been dead in India for many years now.

for all your info BCCI has allocated Rs 100 Cr. for training of athletes for olympic/commonwealth games..
I feel Kapil is correct in raising the issue. Mr Chidambram has not allocated the required/ enough funds for the sports. As number of sports have the potential to grow significatntly if they are properly taken care of by the government.
Kapil Paaji, seems like you are gearing up for a entry in Lok Sabha next year, and in all probabibility from the BJP.With your decision to go with the Zee group promoted cricket league you had anyway turned persona non-grata for the BCCI,now since the said league has flopped miserably, and you having burnt your bridges with the BCCI, there is no other alternative for you but to enter the Lok sabha through BJP and try to take on Messrs Pawar & Co.

Why the message was reported for abuse??Then what about the above message..?Is it not abusive??Why this discrimination??
While many might criticise Kapil for not asking govt to tax ICL and IPl,I think he is doing a great deal criticising the govt for not doing enough. At the end of the day it is only a famous name like Kapil who can make a statement that a govt will listen to and may be even act upon.(unlike mine or your words written in rediffmail)!
RE:Increase taxes on income from IPL & ICL
by siddharth pandey on Mar 02, 2008 06:03 AM
I dont know, wat point you are trying to make. But the point kapil raised, is absolutely genuine. Todays sports is not just about skill n will, its about technology as well..In order to perform well internationall, you will have to pick potential candidates at very early age.. n you will have to groom them with the help of technology... n for technology, you will have to spend..Indian sports needs money... So, taxing IPL or ICL is not going to help indian sports..cum'on...This is about helping sports...
why do u need FM for sports ... get a simple clause in allowing IPL. 5 % or income generated by IPL goes to other sports. Simple. Other sports will end up getting what they havent got in their entire history.

kapil is probably right as far as lesser known (unpopular) sports r concerned. ckt income of higher rated players shud b taxed as cess for the development of other sports. even bcci profit shud b taxed heavily.
