GREAT SHOT
by Sanjay Meitei on Jun 24, 2008 11:20 AM

That was the great shot by peiterson which made difference in the game. This shot must not be banned by ICC law.It depends upon the ability of a batsman and also there is a good chance for a bowler to add a wicket into his kitty

ICC have ruled that offside of the batsman will be consider as per his stas when the bowler start running in his run up s i dont feel any thing wrong with this shot as bowler have (i guess this is quite logical) options to bowl to the off side of batsman and that should not be called wide also for lbw the initial stas should be the criteria. if implemented this will make this shot a realy high risk and low return shot as bowler will probably look to bowl wide off side (leg side of the current stance) or will ry to cramp him for room with a good chance of getting lbw however if rules are not interpreted like this this will surely give an unfair advantage to the batsman.

KP should be questioned
by Mash on Jun 23, 2008 10:13 PM  | Hide replies

The shot he played in the match was surely illegal. How can u suddenly switch from right to left hand. If that shot was legal then why Chappel brother should be blamed for that underarm ball. These things should be stopped otherwise every team will look to find the gaps in laws of the game. I feel coz the Pieterson is from British team ICC is so soft on this case otherwise they would have treated this matter harshly. KP is an excellant batsmen but whatever he did was definitely out of rule books.

You are comparing apples to oranges. Bowling underarm is not the same as changing your guard to be a left hander after the bowler starts the runup. The proper comparison should be that a bowler should be allowed to bowl left handed without telling the batsmen ahead of time. Then it would be fair to both batsmen and bowlers.

The Answer to this kind of 'abuse' is only one way out. The Bowler should run out the 'runner' without completing the delivery at the last moent of his stride!

The modern day so called hitting players are nothing extraordinery except Sachin,Lara.I am giving some example
1.Watch 1983 world cup semifinal ,Ian Botham used to reverse swip at ease
2. In the final If some body has not seen Viv Recgards hitting effortlessly against Indian attack,They are advised to see the game again
3.Do you know Sunil Gavaskar used to hit 4 varieties of cover/extra cover drive which still to day I have not seen from any players of modernday cricketer
4.Who invented wild type of shots in cricket that too in world cup in every match and the flambyont cricketer described by none other than Sunil gavaskar as a player with no rule .This is Srikant who used to play like that and I am sure no body of modern day players has guts to hit the then super first bowlers like Holding,Garner,Marshal with ease the way Srikant used to hit them
5.Have you the modern players seen the delicate late cut of Gundappa Viswanath or silken smooth cover drive by Dilip Vengsarkar and that superb back foot cover drive by David Gower .
The above are few example I am giving for superlative players of years who I think all time greats in cricket and lastly Have you seen that superlative display of wild hitting but along the grass shots by none other than Gary Sobers 'shots of 258 against Australia in world 11 vs Australia in 1973 that too against divastating ever seen fast bowler like Lillee of Australia. So dont compare KP with them at all

true. one shot being hit by nz bowler (name??) who won an odi match against ind, he had also succeeded in hitting similar shot against mcgrath, hitting the ball from over the keeper's head towards boundary; instead of sweeping to the sq leg boundary, to the boundry behind keeper.

Yes true .The player may be Creig Macmillan if I am not wrong .Why the hipe about KP ,I dont understand .The unorthodox shots are not new to present day 20 /20 game .It used to play during W.G.Grace time ,during DON Bradman's time ,during 40's,50's,60's,70's,80's and now also .How DON discocvered hook shot(an unorthodox shot ) during cold war test match between Australia Vs England during famous Jardin's bodyline tactics using Harold Larwood against Australian players .Previously no body new how to play bodyline balls. It was DON Bradman who first used hook shots by moving right leg towards offstamp and farming on right leg ,he used to play towards fine leg or sq leg to play that magnificient hook shots .Ours Own Mahinder Amarnath was a specialist hooker .I remember Once M.L.Jaisimha hitted wildly with so many unorthodox shots against England during a test match in Eden Garden in 1969.So get hped about unorthdox shots

That is Douglas Marillier of Zimbabwe. He helped zimbabwe win india from nowhere. Its called the marillier shot.

And one more addition to the above list. I have seen the great Viv Richards took a left hand stance against srikkanth and hit him for a huge six. Though it happened in an exhibition match. I cant think of any player hitting a spin bowler over long on for a six ( wrong handed )
