FAAAANTASTIC! As a true Aussie like me will say!! Spot on mate! I have been living in Australia for over a dozen years and exactly my sentiments, Sir! I believe, an average Aussie feels hugely inferior to Brits and Yanks and probably everything Western European; which leaves him needing to take a big brother approach to all that is Asian. Also easy since we are by nature less confrontational. I have seen this in every sphere including Scientific Research. Often more talented Asian migrants struggle to not only get a suitable positions but also move upwards. Having said that, those who are good are great. I have not made such good friends in my life in India for over 40 years prior to migrating. That is the paradox of Australian life. I suspect that an average Aussie is constantly searching for something cultural to attach to his identity. He can not take Aboriginal culture as it is too different and his umbelical cord with Europe is long severed. Sports remains the only culture left for him to adopt. And there in lies his success also. An average Aussie is such a passionate for any sport that he is bound to succeed. I have seen parents (even mothers!) physically assault Referees in local Junior Soccer games (Under 9s!!) to oppose penalty given against their child!! As you have rightly said, the only way to tone him down is to hit him in the hip pocket; abuses are not new to him!!! Are Indian Corporates listening? Stop cricket sponsorships. "Irony" has nothing to do with iron, do you understand that??? If having lived in Australia I struggle to feel Australian totally, may be there is something to do with the system as well!! Do you know which state Newcastle is in??

Hey Chris, its pretty ordinary isn't it? Wanders all over the place and did you notice the use of words like thwacking and throve? He must have used a word finder on a computer program. p.s that idiot Lotiya pathan has been using your name over the last few days...they really are lower than low.
RE:Lol
by intel one on Jan 15, 2008 11:25 PM
Sure, this passes for journalism in India, in some newspapers. If cheating can pass as "playing hard and fair" and if "Advance Aus Fair" can pass as the national anthem of Aus, anything can pass as anything else? (unless "Fair" in "Advance Aus Fair" refers to a carnival-fair)

Chris is right on this occasion. As a pakistani, I can see his point in reference to the Indian media.

Lotiya will never support you low life chris. You are looging out and logging back as Lotiya and write something to praise you. don't you have real life? Didn't yuo get love at home?
The aussie culture that they are so proud of is built upon the genocide of the aboriginie.Their culture is racist from the core. What do you expect from criminal descendents.
RE:The Australians are Racist
by Ishant Patnan on Jan 15, 2008 01:57 PM
Only 6% of australians can trace their roots to those initially transported from England and Ireland. I must agree with you that the genocide of Aboriginals has been a low point in this country's history however the culture of Australia has been built by waves of migrants from many nationalities, including India.
RE:RE:The Australians are Racist

Rubbish. Have you ever been to Australia. I have been many times. Ask a taxi driver, he will say at least 80 percent of population are from either UK or Ireland. The rests are Chinese with a few white European, Arabs and a few Indian. However, Arabs and Indians, Chinese are not in the melting pot. Australians are very racists, even they are against White Europeans.

RE:RE:RE:The Australians are Racist

I live in Melbourne and yes, the taxi drivers are 99% Indian. You have forgotten the large number of kiwis, Greeks, Italians, Slavs etc. Australia is a melting pot which is why we are so tolerant...and we don't have your caste system-this is what is holding back India.p.s the third test will be over in 3 days-aussies are fired up to put the Indians back in their place ( is it 4th or 5th in the world?)
Fantastic. Exactly the thoughts I had in mind. Looks like India is coming out of the shell. 8 years ago I would never have dreamt of seeing such an article in any one of Indian media. We would have caved in and taken all the stick and mud thrown by Aussie media.
Not any more. India has arrived. And its only the beginning. The world can look forward to more asserting posture by the Indians in the coming years as the economic juggernaut rolls on.

Mr Sridharan...I knew that it wouldn't be long before your article led to comments like this. What was your intention in the first place? When will we see an Indian writer write a non-partian and fully researched article on the lucky country?
RE:enjoyed readin this one
by Dileep on Jan 15, 2008 03:34 PM
When Aussie media stops writing their bull shit about India. You call all that crap coming in Aussie newspapers about Indian caste system and corruption are fully reasearched and unbisaed? Well they have their opinions about us. And we have some of our own opinion about you.
You can enjoy that good life with wide roads and beautiful roads in someone else's country you migrated into. Just cut that crap about crammy croads and pollution in India. Stop hiding behind naturalised citizenship and singing hymns to the great aborgine-killer country.

And I can understand your problem. Being brown skinned you have to prove your loyalty by being 'more Aussie than the Aussies' constantly or else those racist rascals will come and get you. We can understand. Its ok.

Australians are very comfortable with belonging to one of the most progressive western economies in the world...not any old western society but at the forefront in every field. Cricket is just another of our 'over achievements'. By the way, this test series has been the most reported of any Indian series in years. The key cricket series is obviously the Ashes and most Aussies could care less about the Indians when they tour but this time it has been different. Whatever harbhajan and Symonds have done it has certainly put cricket back in the spotlight. Sidrahan seems like a genuine sort of character but his FACTUAL knowledge is poor. I am glad to be Australian, it is such a wonderful country, but I also respect my Indian heritage. The main difference is the wonderful standard of living in Australia. It is a tolerant nation and i am never made to feel inferior but always equal.I think that somes up Australia, people are treated equally and you are judged on your deeds rather than your background.

yes JM when the aussie immigration line in india becomes extinct then come and talk of how stupid aus is for now dont bite the hand tat is giving millions of indians a bettter life than they would lead in ur own words 'shapless india'
raj arora, you are just not worth it, sorry! Sure, there is a big line in front Aus embassy in India, they are the people who have been rejected multiple times by embassies of real Western countries, especially USA. When I read the news about Dr.Haneef, what shocked me more than anything was that Dr.Haneef was an MBBS with a 2nd class from some univ in India who would be rejected by most western countries to continue his studies, certainly rejected practice license!
An one more thing- no country, not even the great Aus is letting people inside as charity. Aus has demand, India has supply. Just like employer-employment. It is nothing but neanderthal-thinking that employer is giving his employees a better life and so no one should criticize him.
Going by your logic (lack of it), no Indian should criticize Microsoft or Intel because they are giving thousands of Indians their livelihood.
Assuming you are an Indian immigrant living in Aus, all I can say is that the Aus-embassy needs to have a better screening process before they give visas to Indians. Even the other Indian-Australians and Australians themselves, will agree with me on this!
And as I said before you are not worth it, go ahead and throw some typical Aussie profanities and prove to everyone that you are not worth it!

Patnan, you fight generalization by Sridhar (and Indians) on one hand and on the other hand you generalize that Indians abuse and Aussies dont. Something is wrong here mite, sorry!
RE:RE:RE:Good one!!

Australia is an over rated nation with a laughable idea of self importance. If the over zealous non white immigrant generation like a few here think they will be accepted as another bogan aussie, you must be suffering from serious delutions. These wannabe aussies who act more aussie than aussie are the most pathetic kind.

Hey Dumb A**, indians run the world software industry, Intel and Microsoft did not give us job,we are their partner, key component for them to grow and make them what they are today..They acknowledge it, you will not undertsand Aussie! IT is not your cup of tea..it needs brain..ha ha ha
RE:Good one!!

the indians are the experts at swearing on here. The aussies use humour, the indians swear....EVERYBODY on this site knows that.
All Indians are welcome in Australia-they are terrific people and realise how wrong they have been about australia after being here only a short while. People still smile at you in the street here :) You can throw al the barbs you like-this country of australia is a wonderful place to live.
abosolutely..fantastic..you hit the nail Sridharan. I have enjoyed your website goodnewsindia all along and now this.. marvellous. The hipocircy in the aussie cricket team is un-believeable. Your statement "He goes out of the way to distort English even when the distortion adds nothing by way of colour, originality, clarity or wider acceptance- he is searching for uniqueness." is right on target. Aussie cricket team shameless abuses their own mother tongue by calling their abuses, falsehood, and sheer hipocricy as "hard play". Its a big shame (on the smh.com.au) that they didnt publish your article. Kudos to you again.
Kudos to you Sridharan!!Hope some Aussie media picks this up and publishes. Also hope we Indians appreciate what we have got and not think we are white man's burden!!
RE:Ishant Patnan !!!
by Bihar Badshah on Jan 15, 2008 03:49 AM
Briilian sarcasm, should be nominated for best english literature..I nominate thee for the booker's award...
Sridharan's article is a sarcastic look at the behavior of a set of people that are prone to panic. You should have seen the Aussies go up for Maninder's wicket in the 1986 tied game. That was actually not out but the over zealous Indian Umpire raised his finger. No one compliments him for that! Australia could have lost that game if the same Umpire had not upheld another LBW shout.
But, they are were all critical about everything in India. Richard Hadlee refused to tour India till the 1987 series saying it was the worst place on earth. Botham talked crap India saying things like "it is a place for my mother-in-law".
This is a continuation of stupidity.
One thing to be explored further is if the American type of fairness can be extended to cricket.
People here are not completely satisfied if they win but under bad circumstances. This is the current trend. The win has to be absolute for any champion team to rejoice and the opposition can have excuses but should be in a position where they can say "we were beaten by a better team". Americans go to great lengths to ensure this. I hope somehow people can see how this can be incorporated into Cricket.
Australians in reality should not be celebrating a victory that came to them solely because of Umpiring and some attrocious appealing. The whole thing has no sportsmanship left. It is a HUGE scar on their face. If they are OK with this scar, well so be it.

How on earth can you compare the actions of 11 cricketers with the mindset of 20 million Australians. I don't follow your arguments as you have wandered like the Ganges. What is it that you were trying to say?
RE:Ishant Patnam is drinking too much of the Kool Aid!!!
by Samosachat on Jan 15, 2008 08:24 PM
You have a point there Ishant. It is the action of not even 11 but 4 cricketers the main one being the skipper Ponting. ICC is ill equipped to handle the modern day challenges the game poses. Unfortunately India was at the receiving end of most of the umpiring follies.
