No more love for Cricket- Its tax payers money
by unni on Feb 22, 2008 12:25 PM

I was a big fan of cricket, who used to get nervous for India losing, get excited when they win like every cricketlover in india. But seeing the scenario in which cricket and our passion for cricket is being sold out like in a buffalo market, i no more have any passion for this game. There is one thing all have to remember. We still have millions begging for a meal, for 50 ps and these stupids for nothing are being paid like hell. I believe this will hit back and whoever have poured money, thinking of ugly, greedy profit will get the set back. Becuase Indians are not fools.

cupid,

Supply and demand theory...

Apart from that BCCI may want to contribute to other spheres... and that too if its broad objectives provide for that...

Literally Slave Culture

IPL iis a good platform for cricket players, and the franchise's to make a quick buck. The actual fact is that a lot of bigwigs have been involved and definitely a large scale business proposition is in the pipeline. There are other sports which need to be addressed seriouslyThe auctioning of the cricket players reminds me of the days of Arabian nights where the women slaves were auctioned and the rich men were bidding. Though there is plenty of money for the players, somehow it looks demeaning because they are sold like fattened animals. We cannot allow ourselves to be handled like inanimate products which need to be advertised to be sold in the market. If these franchise's are speaking about passion then our national game hockey should have been given more importance.

Money reigns over everything. It happened in past. happening now & probably will happen in future too. Money alone can never give you all comforts . This is also true. But Money acts as instant gratifying element.

IPL Auction: Slave Trade in the name of Cricket? by Vinayaraj V.K.
by vinay raj on Feb 22, 2008 10:17 AM  | Hide replies

I am a huge fan of cricket and have been following the game ever since I could walk (like most Indians!) But the %u2018Grand Auction%u2019 of cricketers broadcast all day by television channels yesterday brought images of the slave market (from books and movies) to my mind. Slavery, the systematic exploitation of labor for work and services of other person, can be traced to the earliest records. In the past, slaves were used mainly as the servants for the rich. While the Europeans justified the slave trade in Africa by arguing that they were providing an opportunity for Africans to become Christians, the bidders at the IPL argue that the event will provide an opportunity to hone the skills of young cricketers. The 21st century version of slavery compels highly-paid individuals (persons who are treated as the property of million dollar franchises) to perform their services so as to serve the rich. The so-called Grand Auction conducted by BCCI in the name of Cricket is not different to earlier slave trade system and further, it serves the same purpose. This is very evident from the nature of the bidders itself. The only difference is the replacement of rich group of earlier times by a well-known Indian business icons and film stars. The enthusiasm shown by the franchise owners in the fierce bidding for 75 players for over seven hours itself shows their temperament for the money-making proposition in this so-called landmark event. Despite %u2018noble%u2019 motives of being a thr

i dont understand how u are comparing slave trade to ipl bidding. and i m assuming u are trying to show the ipl bidding in a negative light just as slave trade was bad. but the thing which u need to understand is that slave trade was considered bad is cuz the slaves were exploited to the max and ill-treated. this is why slave trade is considered negative...i dont see any of this being carried out in ipl...yes it is a form of trade but not slave trade in the sense u are trying to compare it with...if u consider ipl as slave trade then all the employees(from the CEO to the cleaner) of the world working for a company earning wages for their work would be engaging in slave trade right?
