If he hit a TON in semis against mumbai
by David Johnson on Dec 31, 2008 04:54 PM  | Hide replies

If this deserving guy hit a TON against mumbai in semi agaicst top bowler like zahir khan I will say he is ready and deserve a place in next Indian test match.
I hope Srikant will sure give him a chance.
We badly need a Top class batsman in middle urgent because Dravid era is almost over now.

That was the name of the bowler frm south who played for India, I mean I am talking about your name, anyways, you comment is the most relevant and reasonable comment here in all...
If he performs against them, then he should be playing for India...thats it, and thats what I believe...

If not now, then when?
by Guest on Dec 31, 2008 04:28 PM  | Hide replies

It's been a chronic problem with the selectors. Cheteshwar Pujara seems to be the most promising candidate for a Test spot since the days of Virender Sehwag bursting on to the scene. Yet, he has been overlooked thus far. I agree with the fact that there aren't many places vacant. But if someone is showing such form, it should be impossible to leave him behind. After all, what better than to pick a man in form rather than wait for him to fizzle out and then pick him? The latest example of this was Manoj Tiwary, albeit his woes were compounded by his injury on the Bangladesh tour. I just hope this guy gets a go. Another century in the semis or hopefully in the final, and it should be impossible to keep him out.

Thanks,
Tanmoy Mookherjee

When dravid plays well he is god,
Now wen he is out of form he has to be kicked off????
Thats not rite. When sachin was out of form for whol 2 yrs nobody said anything to him bcos he has lot of records na. I think Dravid deserves to be in the test team till he himself decides to retire.
he shown his ability in the final test against England in Mohali. Dravid u r the best.
U will be back with a bang and ppl like Rajaji will come as obstacles to u but dont bother ppl like me and crores of like me are with u.

Just for one match it is worth dropping Dravid and giving an youngster like Pujari a chance. Sachin and others got chance when they were young. But these youngsters have to wait in the benc for years until their form and moral goes down. When some one is out of form he has to be dropped. Nothing wrong with that. Then only youngsters will get a chance.

Run Machine?? Rediff has serious problems with Mumbai
by Andy Louis on Dec 31, 2008 07:48 AM  | Hide replies

Ajinkya Rahane is doing better than Pujara..Pujara has an overall average of 55 and Rahane 64 with better strike rate. This season too Ajinkya stands tall with more runs scored away than home.. Pujara has overall 18 fifties in 37 First class matches Ajinkya has 17 in 21 matches. I don't understand what is the definition of run machine.
However the definition of run machine is Sachin
When he hit the circuit in 88-89, Sachin played 7 Matches with 7 scores of 50 or more with 1 century and average of 65. MIND YOU SACHIN WAS 14 and Pujara RUN MACHINE is 20 already. We don't understand rediffs bias against Mumbai.

You seem to have the strongest attachement with Bombday then Rediff's any problem with Mumbai. And I really doubted Rediff has any problem with any region..

How aboy this.. Pujara' run came when it was really needed and against more stronger bowling attack. And Mumbai has one of the strongest Bowling Attack in India.. Since all the regions in India are equal to me I will say Rahane is very good as well..

Prabodh you seem to have following cricket ever since pujara took up cricket..and overall your brain doesnt seem to work when you read. you seem to be brain dead..I request you to read properly before commenting and in turn avoid providing a funny exhibition of your (no) talents..Pujara is not even in the league of great players..A good Ranji Season at home does not make you a RUN MACHINE was my argument. Secondly I was trying to highlight that pujara even after his so called good run is still not way ahead (infact he is behind) other players.. Ajinkya was an example..Rediff IS biased against mumbai players (I have enough proof) even though we screw each and every state every year. Mumbai is the Lords or Indian cricket and there is not better team than Mumbai in Ranji..
All the rest of the states can only play 20-20 and mind you in mumbai we play gully cricket better than DHONI..

Re: Re: Re: Re: Agarkar the advantage of Mumbai?

Firstly Agarkar is an all rounder and not a strike bowler. It was only due to absence of strike bowlers like Zaheer and Ishant Ajit had to play the main role. That was unfortunate for his career..

Agarkar is way better than cartoons who put up monkey shows. eg Sreesanth.
Agarkar is way better than UP Bihar bowlers who were playing at the mercy of Dhoni eg RP Singh, Pravin Kumar, Yadavs et all..

Agarkar doesn't have a big mouth to answer his critics like Zaheer or Ishant.. He is a silent worker and therefore gets pinned down by critics. If I am not wrong he is the only bowler to score a century at lords and fastest ODI 50 wickets. He is the only bowler to have a better batting strike rate and was a genuine all rounder. It was only because India has grade 2 bowlers like Srinath (was good in his later half of career) and Venkat Prasad we suffered.

And this is a real joke. Fastest 50 is all fine, but how many matches did he ever win for India. And you compare him with Zaheer, Ishant and Srinath. Zaheer just won the man of the series in the series against England, and Ishant devasted Australia in Australia. Even Praveen Kumar, and Balaji have been great bowlers against Australia and Paksitan. So dont even bring Agarkar into the picture. As for his batting, just go and check record for maximum number of 0s by a player and Agarkar is high up there. Actually 11 continues 0s is a world record.

hey man!! so called Bhasmasoor and Prabodh Jain I guess you have difficulty to understand what I have written. What do you mean by funny?? Agarkar is an allrounder and was a forced bowler in the team when there were no other bowlers around. Name one and I will stop the debate there..Srinath was the only other bowler who has some calibre but was useless overall.... Agarkar was senior to Zaheer. THERE WAS no Bowler around like Ishant or Zaheer then. Mind you even now India does not have a good pace bowling line up. Ishant and Zaheer have done a so-so job in the concluded series and mond you India has not beaten England or Australia for the first time at home. We rely on spinners at home. Zaheer is no Wasim Akram and Ishant is no Waqar..They will surely fail mark my words. They are average bowlers not in the league of Steyn, Morkel, Mitchel Johnson, Lee or even flintoff... I would request you to back up you criticism of Ajit Agarkar with stats....As per stats he still was the best bet...I still reiterate that Agarkar was an allrounder who was forced as a strike bowler which in turn screwed his career. Agarkar is the only bowler to score a century at LORDS..Period..

Agarkar played 26 matches scored at an average of 16.79, took 58 wickets at an average of 47.32... Zaheer Khan played 62 matches scored at an average of 12.46 and took 197 wickets at an average of 34... Harbhajan has played 74 matches scored at an average of 16.70 and taken 314 wickets at average of 30.88... The figures are more or less same in ODIs as well... now how the hell I can accept that Agarkar is an allrounder... and if he is an allrounder, so as Zaheer & Harbhajan. Also Zaheer don't mind being a Strike bowler unlike Agarkar. The only allrounder India ever had is Kapil Dev who played 131 matches and scored at an average of 31.05...and took 434 wickets at an average of 29.64 and once again he never complained being given the responsibility of a strike bowler. Agarkar might be a Domestic All-rounder but he didn't prove his worth at International Level. Scoring a century in the Lords is not enough to be an International Allrounder...

There are so many guys, but first those who have performed well consistently should be given a chance. Raina and Badri have played so well in the past. If we remember Raina has been doing great in one day. So he should be given a chance in test, and so also should Badri.

Just look at Badri's domestic record in 5 dy matches and compare that with Raina, Rohit and Virat. These new kids are nowhere near Badri in terms of performance. He's still under 30 and can easily play for 5-6 years if he clicks. Look at Australia. Many of their prolific run getters made their debut in their late 20s. Badri couldnt get into the side because of the fab 4. But if he's overlooked any further, it would be injustice.

century against quality atack made on the last day to chase difficult target of 325 in a day, remaining unconquered while guiding his team to victory.
last year, the same way, he single handedly scored century on the last day to save his team from a sure defeat.
performances n circumstances in which that came r also to b considered.
