How about considering active public participation in team selection?? We could have a Sms poll just like the talent hunt shows nowadays. We, the general public may not know the finer details but we do have eyes and instinct to follow. We could start with jus one player in the offing for sms selection as 15th player and if sucessful could extend it further over a period of time. Its team india after all, so why not let india decide its team?

Really doubt Indians are matured enough for that, all we will see is people voting for cricketers from their own states, we saw that in reality shows, and cricket would be no different. All people seem to care is cricketers from their state play or not, team winning or loosing seems to be immaterial

Stupid idea. Its even not working in reality singing show as no show is giving most talented singer as winner due to sms concept. Every one is voting as per region & hence talented singer like Abhilasha went out of the show voice of India before less talented Esmeet & Priyani. Selection of best singer/cricketer can be done only by knowledegeble perosons of that field and not by stupid janta who simply think as per region & emotion.
For long selectors have been accused of being spineless, not having the guts to drop big names. As a result we saw guys like saurav, sehwag get an extended stay in the team even when they were consistently faiing. Finally they have shown the nerve to drop a big name, it should do team india and rahul a world of good. Im sure Rahul will came a successful comeback like Saurav did, atleast in tests, its impossible to imagine an Indian team doing well in Australia without Rahul in the team
