We all know that playing mind games prior to commencement of any series is one of the old techniques of Aussies. They are as brilliant at this game as they are on proper cricket field.
But I am afraid, Ponting got this one wrong altogether. He says Kumble will be under pressure in Australia.
Who told him that Kumble will be part of the Indian team that is going to tour Australia? The Indian selectors (whose first priority is writing newspaper articles and talking to media) have announced Kumble as captain for three tests against Pakistan only! How can Ponting presume that Kumble will be captain for the series down under also?
In all probability, Kumble will retire from international cricket at the end of the test series against Pakistan and Team India will most likely tour Australia under MSD, sans Ganguly, Laxman and Dravid, with Sachin being the only member of the old guard to survive for non cricketing reasons.

if what you are prophesising turns true the indians will be in for a severe mauling--it will also end the career of MSD

The second part of my prediction is that MSD will do very well, as he has nothing really to lose like some of his calculative predecessors. He will come out not just unscathed, but blazing all the way. Players like Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwari, Piyush Chawla will grow fantastically under him. India will be world champions in all three forms of the game by 2011.
Aussies are waiting for the prey ... but indians can pray !!!! 2003-04 was the brilliance of rahul ... now that he has been insulted by the selectors for just one flop series...No gratitude and no no patience for our selectors.. its total politics...
Australia won the ODI easily here... and same wil happen thr... test series is also for australia... INDIA CAN ONLY WIN THE 20-20 IND VS AUS on Feb 1st..nothing else... I remember ppl screaming india will win the WC ...the same is happening and the result will be the same....they will come back with insult

Australia was lucky to win the ODI series 4-2 because of internal politics in Indian team composition. If only Dravid had played better in the interest of the team rather than sulking for having been forced out of captaincy, the series would have been tied 3-3 or won 4-2 by India.

Well, i understand that your views are justified by the enviable winning streak of the aussies. However, if you look back, in the recent past, the only team that has given tough time to aussies is the Indian team, with or without the top 3 or 4 players that are mentioned. I believe that this team has the capacity to beat aussies. It needs only two things, first, they should continue to play aussies, in the same fearless way, they played them in T20 WC. Second, we have to play to win and only win, then i am sure, India would be applauded as the only team ,in the recent past to have defeated australia at home in a test series. I THINK THERE IS NOTHING SO DIFFICULT OR IMPROBABLE IN PREDICTING AN INDIAN WIN, IT COULD BE ANYTING, FROM 1-0 TO 4-0 OR 3-1, OR 2-1 OR WHATEVER.
Lets stop pulling our team back. LET US LOOK AHEAD AND HOPE FOR THE BETTER

thats right..we need to use the forum for constructive purposes. We need to discuss how to avoid the 4-0 white wash by Aus.
