They are all useless
by India on May 21, 2007 05:09 PM

Munaf, Pathan, Balaji, Sreesanth or whomever. They are all uesless. They play one match and then they get injured and are out for the series. At this rate India wll need at least 15 bowlers in reserve.

Only God can save Indian cricket
by Viks S on May 21, 2007 12:12 PM

Hi all:
I think there is something seriously wrong at the BCCI. The BCCI officials are stepping into the shoes of selectors committee and coach selection committee (Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar and S. Venkatraghavan). Both these committees have become toothless. Even the match fees to the players which are long overdue is delayed by the so called richest cricket board in the world -- a matter of shame. Player like Ranadeb Bose who has done so well in the domestic cricket, has been ignored for long -- probably because he has no Godfather. Politicians and politics can never do good for this commercialised cricket. No actions of BCCI has any meaningful justification and they are accountable to none. Only God can save Indian cricket.

Ishant Sharm?
by CricketLover on May 20, 2007 01:14 AM  | Hide replies

From whatever I read, he is just a medium paced though very tall. Just manages to bowl in 120s, hardly the pace to trouble any international batsmen. Why dont Indian think thank tell one bowler to bowl at 145kph from one end and dont worry about anything else? Aus do the same with Tait and bowlers from other end can take wickets

hey man u r true...main thing is we exept a lot from our pacers (if we have any)...they cant do all works...let them bowl fast.. but no we expect from them 2 take wickets.dont give runs...this is not possible for a genuine pacer...thats the reason why munafs speed decreased these days....

Will IsHaNt wud really get a chance???
by VIVEK TRIPATHI on May 19, 2007 05:44 PM  | Hide replies

The inclusion of Ishant Sharma is worth appreciation, but will he really get a chance to play in final eleven is yet to be seen. In such cases, mostly it is seen that a player is included n hardly get a chance to show his metal n just left out serving drinks.....

lets hope this doesnt happen with Ishant.

all the best Ishant

Who will do the pace bowling with Zaheer if Ishant has to sit out, ofcourse we have RP Singh and VRV, who are both good on their given day, but it will be worth seeing Ishant.

VRV and RP good on their day? You must be joking. RP Singh is wayward and has no variety or control. I dont know why they keep selecting him. VRV is useless, he has neither the pace nor swing - bowls mostly around 132-134kph range and at that pace with no pace or swing he cannot go very far in international cricket. Whatever has happened to him being the quickest bowler in India who can bowl at 150kph.Only in dreams. We have tons of bowlers who can bowl like VRV in the country and we need someone who is cut above the rest. No matter how many chances you give these 2 they are not going to be match winners for longer term. They may get few wickets here and there but they are certainly one amongst the many. When SL can produce Malinga and Pak can produce Akhtar, Sami why cant India produce atleast one bowler who can bowl at 145kph? The over hyped Munaf who was brought into the team with great fanfare is become pretty ordinary - another unfit bowler.

Grow up man, it is nothing personal and we are not talking about your bowling speed or my abilities. We are talking about Indian pace bowlers. If you can bowl at 135kph then why dont play for India? India needs quick bowlers like you.
Let us wait for a day to see how quickly VRV bowls against BD and come back here and talk about his speed. I will be happy if he bowls at 140kph and I am proved wrong.

Just because VRV bowled few deliveries at 140 in SA or WI does not make him a fearsome bowler. Even Shane Watson bowled a few deliveries at 143kph in WC and he is a third change bowler for Aus. For that matter even Dilharo Fernando bowls around 138-142kph consistently. Even BD quick bowlers are bowling at around 138kph. When you talk about speed it has to be consistent over a period of time not just for few deliveries. I have seen VRV since he made his debut 1 1/2 years ago and for most of the time he is just fast medium for majority of the time. When we talk of quick bowlers, compare to Malinga or Tait whose average speeds are high 140s kph over the innings and who can swing at that speed. For that matter even Munaf bowled a few deliveries around 140KPH against England when he made his debut, but look now he is bowling low 130s. Yes VRV may be a fearsome bowler for you but not to a quality international batsmen. International batsmen are able to come down the wicket and smack him like they do to a spinner. (Ex: Remember Pietersen hitting him for 22 runs in an over).

It is not a meant both are loose, If they not performing well in a perticular match. Instead of this we should think their track record. Is it possible by you. If you are putting finger over them.

Their records comprises of their past performance only which has got accumulated over a period of more than a decade for Sourav and almost 2 decades for Sachin. At this level they need regularly to perform or perish. You can not simply going on humming their records since that is neither helpful to them nor to the the cause of Indian Cricket.Sunil Gawaskar too had a tremendous record till his retirement but still in his last years in International career he was performing and giving those solid starts. In fact in the last International match he played if I remember correctly he scored 186 runs from Rest of World eleven team against England way back in 1987. Gawaskar in fact faced the most hostile fast bowling attacks in the world those days. Now you have weak teams like Bangladesh, Zimbawe against whom we are not sure of a win. Who denies that Sachin and Sourav are not great but this greatness has to be maintained otherwise exit is the only option since you can not block the entry of newcomers because of this so called greatness about them which has been a thing of the past.
