Intriguing
by vkumar on May 19, 2007 10:03 AM

This is one of the most intriguing injuries of recent times. We have most trained support staff, and still Munaf spends most of the time on the bench. He has undergone same trauma on the tour of SA,and final test in SA was lost because we were short of bowler. He played that match because Greg gave an ultimatum. I hope it is not the end of the road for him.

Munaf Patel.
by Cricket Player on May 19, 2007 04:28 AM

I believe this is the end of the road for Munaf. He is "always" unfit and was hyped as a tear away bowler, I have only seen him bowl from 75 - 82 MPH. India needs someone who can consistently bowl over 87 MPH.

Cricket playing Muslims, christians and sikhs are few in numbers as against Hindus. Let more people come to cricket from these communities, eventhough objection from thier family may arise. We had Rojerbinny, Syed Kirmani, Sandhu, Navjoth etc. before and made remarkable performance for India. But ultimately letus free cricket from communal thoughts....

yes u r right!!
what about Ranadeb Bose.....he got 39 wickets the last Ranji season....and became the Best Player throughout India for that season (2006 - 2007)....but Ishant bagged the chance taking only 29 wickets.....perhaps they will tel that they are not taking Ranadeb in coz he is 26 now....then what about Ramesh Powar or Dinesh Mongia....who gets selected in a so called Young Team........as freshers!!!!

bcoz bengalis r always hated by the rest of india. they can,t digest the uprising of bengalis in all over the world. be it in the field of sports or in films or in so called INDIAN plitics. its a shame for us that we have not a single PM or Prez. in our 60 years after indipendence. so don,t warry about any Bose or Paul or Ganguly.

You all are behaving like politicians, let this work for them. Thats the reason why we lost to the bangladesh. Inspite of concentrating on game, we usaually arguments or get involevd in the other issues.

Plz talk about the game, not about the players(so called stars),those who never sparkled.

Munaf definetly needs to work on his fitnes! He was considered as the quickest bowler in country, but surpried everybody with only line and length and no pace. If he has be successful at International level he has to generate more pace with same line which he bowls often.

WHY ISHANT ? THE BEST CHOICE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RANADEB BOSE FROM BENGAL. HE IS THE HIGHEST WICKET TAKER IN THE RANJI TROPHY.

Hi Arup,

Ranadeb Bose is a highest wicket taker in Ranji's but when I had look at his bowling this season I was really surprised to see him bowl military medium for a Guy as tall, with good build as he is. To be frank he might not have the pace to disturb test class batsmen. I May not be right but that is what I felt when I saw him Live...

With Regards,

Jeyasingh Devanesan

I agree. Ranadeb Bode is military medium. Anyone remember Subrota Banerjee, Bharati Arun, Debashish Mohanty. They all took lots of wickets in domestic games and were brought into the test team but were not successful. The common thing amongst them was lack of good pace, they all bowled military medium which is not good enough to get wickets in international games. These kinds of bowlers may succeed in one or two games where the pitches help seam bowling but they cant last long term. We need someone who can bowl consistently at 145kph from one end. Every country has these bowlers, NZ has Bond, Pak have Akhtar, Sami, SL has Bond, WI have Taylor,Edwards, SA has a couple of them, Aus have Lee and Tait. So why cant India produce one bowler who can do that? We need genuine pace bowlers who can win games on any surface and under any situation. In my opinion Munaf should be dropped due to lack of fitness which is the main reason why he cannot bowl quicker

Another correction. Only pace will not do either. Direction and quality-less fast bowling is also not enough for International standard. Reason shown for not including Bose before WC was - he is a test prospect. The selectors should say in clear terms what they want and why someone get selected and someone is not. And how important (or useless) domestic performances are. Else it will give a wrong signal to the upcoming players. Though transparecy is the last thing that we can expect from BCCI.

Hey, Cool down! munaf is not fit for the longer version of the game. I think just 2 innings(if plays)out of 2 test match series in subcontinent conditions is not the best way to give chance/introduce a young lad!!

yes u are right that Ranadeb bowls medium pace....I have seen him bowling....but tell me...does Munaf bowls raw pace nowadays.....only Sreesanth & VRV Singh can touch 140 kph...Munaf hardly makes it up to 130....Ranadeb bowls at an average of 130kph....moreover his natural swing is the Outswinger...I think that gives him an extra advantage against Right Handed batsman...plus he has that one inswinger coming as a surprise every 2nd or 3rd over......specially I think the wickets at England are just perfect for a bowler like him...moreover he can get bounce as he has the height...
I know India desperately needs a bowler who can bowl consisitently at 145 kph....Munaf was like that when he arrived....but all credit to Mr.Chapell & his bowling coaching.....Munaf lost his pace completely
that person (Chapell) is responsible for death of talent of Irfan Pathan as well......who I think was the most talented bowler India had in last 5 years.....he really kept the pakistani batsman guessing in his first two tours!!
