Mr. Shakil Kaseem Sharp Your Memory, As INDIA WON TEST SERIES AGANIST WEST INDIES IN WEST INDIES IN 2006
by Gijoe Samuel on May 16, 2007 07:53 PM  | Hide replies

"When was the last time you won a Test series outside the comfortable retreat of your home ground? About the same time Haley's comet was last sighted?"

With reference to the above words, i would like to Mr.Shakil Kaseem to Sharpen his memory as "INDIA WON THE TEST SERIES AGANIST WEST INDIES IN WEST INDIES LAST YEAR I.E IN JUNE 2006."

Also, INDIA got out in First round losing to MINNOWS Bangladesh in WC-2007. They hammered BERMUDA and showed their standard of CRICKET. By the way who was the COACH of INDIAN team when INDIA won OVERSEAS TEST series?? Who is harrased and kicked out or INDIA? Thats why we cannot compete against AUS, SA bcoz we dont accept the truth that we are only good in making money (modelling, advertising) nothing else!

Hahahhahaha this is perhaps the funniest and most apt article written on team India.....over over hyped, over intellectualized the Indian cricket team is a white elephant where players are more worried about personal milestones than the team. Kudos to Kasem.

Perform consistently for 1 year
by Sanjay Pamidiparti on May 16, 2007 07:45 PM  | Hide replies

Shastri or any other player connected with Indian cricket should be banned from making any statements unless we perform well for 1 year ... and that too not winning matches in Ind/Pak/SL ... I doubt we can win in SL as we are one of the worst players of spin .. Yuvraj and Sehwag are back to square one ... Yuvraj is becoming very arrogant these days ... Zaheer khan should again be given one year rest .. he lost all his fire... Sreesanth injured again ... after bowling only 5 overs ... Tiwari guy there was so much press coverage and this guy without playing game needs operation dont mean to be harsh on him but he should know how to land when fielding you don't land thud on shoulder during practice ...... Munaf Patel is bowling 120-125KMS .. isn't be supposed to be Baroda bomber ... Powar is an all rounder and he is not making more than 5 ... Dinesh Mongia ... no need to talk about this guy ... with so many defects in team ... Shastri is talking about no mercy ... gimme a break

Mr. Sanjay, You and me accept the facts that we dont have mental and pysical courage to perform above standard. We can defiately perform well below standard with some of the worlds most over hyped and over rated players.

people of INDIA are ignorrant with these facts and they dont accept that we are only good in modelling, advertising not bowling, batting, fielding on ground.

Circket in INDIA is no where compare even to countries like IRELAND, CANADA where people play for passion. NOT like INDIA where even kid thinks of becoming CRICKETER just to make money or to get highly paid secure job.

This is state of our cricket following HOCKEY way!

who the hell said Indians r not good at sports??? the problem is people like urself lack self esteem...anyone can learn anything as long as u can exploit ur natural ability..India is richer than most S American or African countries..yet they excell in football..there should be a serious revamping of sports facitlities with grass root participation. These can become commercially viable as well as family entertainment.

Stupid is the word to describe the Bangladesh player Shakel Kasem. He just doesn't know English. That's why this frustration at Ravi's comments.

He should stick to reading Bangla newspapers and write only in his language. Leave Engish and the 'Poor Minnows' Indians alone.

Dear Friends,

I dont find anything wrong in the statement given by Ravi.

If this statement was given by Austalaian coach or cricket manager, the worl of cricket will praise him saying "the coach is agressive and every one should follow him". Now when similar approach is taken by an Indian that is only after winning the ODI series, I dont understand why Bangladeshi's getting so much furious. It shows they are still minnows. It is not good sign for the development of Bangladesh cricket.

The only problem is that shastri is making these comments not against australia but against bangladesh. That is the problem, my friend.
.
Why do we need aggression to win against bangladesh?

Kasem's article
by souvikmeister on May 16, 2007 06:12 PM  | Hide replies

Of all the folks who have posted here, I wonder how many have actually read the original article? I think Harsh Kotian's reproduction here is seriously flawed and extremely irresponsible.
This is what he was trying to say:
This is the third time Bangladesh has invited India to play there but India has not reciprocated even once, sighting "commercial" reasons.
That is too "western" or "Australian" an outlook. India can and should do better. Bangladesh had invited India to play them long before anyone had any idea that they would beat India in the WC. They wanted to play gracious hosts and expected Indians to behave as model guests, which means beat them on the cricket field, but also praise the effort put in by their sides. Bangladesh was looking at encouragement and appreciation of their improvement not just on field but also in infrastructure ..... the Mirpur stadium is one of the best in the subcontinent, almost at par with Mohali, Eden Gardens and Gaddafi.
It must be remembered when Pakistan lost to Bangladesh, they were far more willing to give credit and encouragement ..... Wasim Akram said, "We lost to our brothers!" Pakistan has beaten the tar out of them in almost every other match but has been always gracious off the field. That is how subcontinental teams have always behaved with each other.
Ravi Shastri should have been more Akram and less Ponting. That's the point Mr. Kasem tried to make. But Harsh Kotian's irresponsible reporting has caused an entirely different reaction.

I am sorry, but have you read the actual article by Mr. Kasem??
Here is the link to it: http://www.thedailystar.net/2007/05/16/d70516041042.htm

I don't see a single sentence where Mr. Kasem even hints at the fact that India hasn't invited Bangladesh to a test series yet. I think that Mr. Kasem's comments such as referring to India as "minnows" were solely his angry reaction to Bangladesh's bad showing in the ODI series against India (given their good performance in the WC).
Also, Ravi Shastri only meant to say that India would look to clinch the series 3-0 (which seems to have been misinterpreted by Mr. Kasem).
Referring to the comment where Mr. Kasem calls India "minnows", I would like to point out that India's current test team has played more test matches than Bangladesh has played first-class matches -- So I think that should clear up Mr. Kasem's misconception of India as "minnows".
However, I do agree with you that the Indian and the Bangladeshi boards should do more to cooperate with each other and learn from each other.
