There is no way Ganguly will face the heat in Kolkata like others will in rest of the country. NO WAY. He is treated as GOD in Kolkata. Just read the Bengali dailies "Anandabazar", "AajKaal", "Bartaman" etc and you will know what I am talking about.
And there is a reason behind it. There is no icon or role-model from Bengal in any sphere of life. Given the idle, averse to work nature of Bengalis, they therefore seek solace in the only one available in the horizon (Ganguly).
Look at the way Bengalis feel good about Amartya Sen (He is a British national), Sushmita Sen (hardly speaks Bengali), Rani Mukherjee (never lived in Bengal) among others. They are habituated to feel good by proxy.

Absolutely wrong remark about icons from Bengal. I would say bengal had given most number of icons and idols from India. Tell me who was the first Noble Laurette from India?-Kavi Guru Rabindranath Tagore, tell me who brought Oscar to India?- Styajit Ray, tell me where is Leander Paes from? these are few of the numerous idols that bengal has produced apart from what you have already named. Come on speak out now???? what happened?? give some examples of other icons from other part of the country??? what happened? speak out........ Improve ur GK and then comment. Actually non-bengalis are jealous about bengalis, hence they always shout without facts...hence better keep all ur mouths shut...

You did miss most important contribution from Bengal. It's our brand IIT at KGP. I did live there for 4 years & enjoyed a lots! (am a non-bengali though). This place churns out the best of India & we have seen the results (in billions of $$)

Sourav is a real hero. There is no doubt about that. Wwe know how to respect our players. When Chappel showed his middle finger to the fans in Bengal, everyone congratulated him. Do not curse Sourav. Chappel and Dravid can not form a good side in 2 years.
And yes....without Sourav's fighting knock against Bangladesh, the score would have looked like India - 91/10, BD - 94/2 (25).
And regarding Bengali heroes, see, we have produced Leander Paes. And there is no need to speak in Bengali. Our characteristics show that we are Bengalis. And we are true Indians.
India went into all the finals under Sourav's reign. Thrashed the mighty Aussies in Aus. Beat Pak in Pak (TEST).....and many more.

I have nothing against Sourav. If you read my original post, you won't see anything negative about him. I just made my comment about the excessive "Hero-worship" mentality shown to him in Kolkata even when his performance was not up to the mark.
Also it was pitiful for the Eden Gardens crowd to have supported the opponent team in a recent game when Sourav was dropped. That was totally unacceptable.
I am sure you will agree that with each passing day, the prominence of Bengal is diminishing for various reasons (political primarily) from all spheres of life.

Arre mere myopic dosth, when we beat Aus in Aus, and Pak in Pak, it was all dravids heroics. Dont you remember Ganguly faking injury and not participating in Multan test, because he could not face Shohaib Akthar, later when Dravid and co showed him, how it is to be done, this girl came back into the team for the 3rd Rawalpindi test, where again Dravid had to score 270 to win the series.
Then Remember when Aus visited India again, what happened ? Your Paper Tiger Ganguly again Faked injury to escape out of the Nagpur test as the pitch was bouncy.
You bengalis really have a short term memory, and all you can do is praise ganguly even when all he does is Nothing.
I have to agree in this matter, that you guys have a little bit less of brain than the rest of the country

They don't have anything else to do. Mostly Kolkata people are jobless or don't go to work or go to work at 2pm and leave at 3pm. Bandhs, Lal Jhanda and Hartaals are always the norm. So people have lots of time in hand to welcome this feminine jerk back home.
What more can you expect from them? Look at the way Bengal is performing in other sports. Take football for instance, once Kolkata was called the Mecca of Football. Now, all 3 Kolkata based teams make up the bottom-rung of the National Football League. All good players are in Goa. Show me even one Bengali Player in the National Football team.
A couple of months ago, I happened to read an issue of the Bengali daily Anandabazar. That day, an eminent Bengali movie director Anjan Chowdhury had passed away. But he was mentioned only in a footnote. The cover page, cover picture was of .....who else? Saurav Ganguly. The picture was he was presenting his wife with a flower on his anniversary.
Now you know why he will be always be welcomed in Kolkata no matter how is performance is.
