Never opt for English coaches!
by karthik on Jun 05, 2007 09:45 PM  | Hide replies

I dont think we should ever opt for English coaches. Generally they insist on players being copy book! Our players are known for their unorthodox methods and flair....An Enligh coach will try to enforce the English mindset (always defensive). Pietersen is the only exception in the English team and has managed to retain his unorthodox methods. Else, if you see any other Eng player, they are orthodox and are a real pain to watch!

I just hope Emburey / Ford are not selected!

Mpumelelo Mbangwa of Zimbabwe has also thrown his hat in the ring for the Indian coaching job
There is speculation that K Oteino of Kenya has also shown interest
Oteino played a major role in Kenya reaching WC
semi finals in 2003

John Emburey as coach!!!! BCCI is a bunch of jokers
by kumar viswanathan on Jun 05, 2007 08:40 PM  | Hide replies

John Emburey is certainly not a right candidate for coach. He had a failed experience with the county teams.

I can't understand one thing is that the 2011 WC is being played in the sub-continent and why don't the BCCI recruit an Indian coach like Sandeep patil or even the most successful Indian Coach Ajit Wadekar. The BCCI knows only to do Lopa Potti of Dravid. Everybody knows that Dravid, Tendlya and Sourav might not play the 2011, then why are they been consulted or heard...............

Are you OK to see the indian team continue its misery way when playing teams outside till 2011. Not that I am optmistic that a coach can do wonders to these superstars...

Gavaskar is the one who has spoiled cricket in ancient days, who is spoiling now to a great extent and will keep doing this in future.I think his wife will not allow him into the house and thats the reason he is involving in all unwanted matters.Who is he to decide on Indian Coach.Coaching Legend Dav Whatmore lost his chance because of gavaskar.Sunil should be sacked.

In current scenario it is best to have a Indian coach. He can give confidence to all the players senior or junior. A foreign coach will not be able to do good job with Indian team.

If India are to win abroad, they need coaches who understand the minds and grounds abroad. They had an Auzzie, a Kiwi and it's time they went with a WI, SA or ENG coach - esp SA. Indians have always struggled in SA type conditions and it's time they figured out what goes wrong there because by the look of things, the Indian bowlers are as quick as folks from SA and on paper, India has better spinners and batters. Moreover, India's biggest traditional weakness is fielding and who better to teach fielding to India than someone from SA. Ford for me.

Believe me, I have lost complete interest in cricket nowadays, same old faces in indian team, if we watch a film two to three times , we get bored here we have some old horses running on field, who claim to be great players when they cannot reach quater final in world cup and seem to justify themselves as greats by defeating bangladesh. I guess our local club teams will give bangladesh heavy bashing.

Absolutely true. In one movie great villain Ajit says' " oh shut up darling, purane kutton se main tang aa chuka hun". It is applicable to indian cricketeers also.

Winning and losing is part of the deal. One should enjoy the day their team wins and forget the day their team loses and move on. One feels disheartened only when they attach too much importance to begin with. It's only a sport - not life and death. Only complaint about cricket is that other sports suffer because of the popularity of (national) cricket but that's not cricket's fault.

There is no such thing as too much cricket. Hey...there is an off button too! Or follow tabletennis, tennis, hockey, billiards, shooting, kabbaddi. These sports need followers in India too.

i agree that cricket is getting kind of repetitive now, but tell me, and this is not only to aimed at you - say we do chuck sachin, ganguly (NOT DRAVID - he is still our best player), sehwag, harbhajan out of the team. that means bringing in youngsters, which is good. but youngsters take time to adapt to the game and will understandably fail sometimes. my question is, most india fans are so impatitent, and inconsiderate and cynical - they will just end up criticizing these young players and then call for old players to come back.

i will give u an example
2005 - ganguly batting like a rabbit, doing terribly. every single india fan was calling for him to be thrown out (dont deny it anyone!) players like suresh raina came in, who did well at the start of his career, and then last year, around the champions tropy and before, he lost his form. and no doubt, many india fans were calling him uselss, and calling for ganguly to come back. now, they are calling for ganguly to be thrown out and young players to come in.

CRAZY FANATIC INDIA FANS - IF A YOUNG PLAYER COMES INTO THE TEAM, YOU MUST BE PATIENT AS IT TAKES A WHILE TO SETTLE IN AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF INTERNATIONAL CRICKET. THEY MUST BE PERSISTED WITH, SO THEY CAN ESTABLISH THEMSELVES AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL.

that being said, it is silly to bring in a team of 11 youngsters - experience is needed - it will be interesting to see how ford (i hope its him) goes about this issue

Proven Candidate
by Gaurab Sengupta on Jun 05, 2007 08:09 PM  | Hide replies

I somehow think the BCCI is making a mistake by considering people who are yet to prove themselves (as coaches, that is). Either Dav Whatmore should have been considered, especially since he was interested, or John Wright should have been requested to return and re-construct the team that was so skillfully destroyed by Greg Chappell.

What has whatmore proved. Taken two teams with low expectations and that were minnows to the next level. Let's wait and see where Bang cricket goes? With SL they have a good talent pool and still uncorrupted with advertisement dollars.

Greg Chappel did not destroy indian team but he brought out the real picture of our players outside. He was not like other coaches who dances to tunes of captains. But chappel showed the real drama behind screen. Our players are over confident, over zeolous and think they are above all critisim, noone dares to ask them about their failures. They will play good in one match and sit idle for 3 to 4 matches.

and as far as bangladesh cricket goes, he has set the wheels rolling. its got nothing to do with him how bangla cricket goes after he has left. that is up to the new coach... use ure brain

As I SAID both teams and fans had low expectations period. Bang continue to fare poorly on seamers paradise. They were lucky to play SA in Guyana during the World Cup rather than Barbados.

Does Indian team need a coach?

After giving fancy pay package to Greg Chappell and making him coach for a long time did Indian team ever get benifitted? Did the Indian team ever learnt its lessons from the past? Was Indian team predictable at any point of time in the last 20 years? How does a coach make a difference with so many failures in the past? Is it possible to coach Indian team?

Why not an Indian coach ?
by AR on Jun 05, 2007 07:33 PM | Hide replies | Hide message

Sandeep Patil would be the best available choice, he is very strict when it comes to fitness. I heard he doesnt allow the batsmen and bowlers to touch the bat and ball without rigorous exercise. We all know how he transformed the Kenyan team in 2003 World cup. Present India cricketers (playing team) are aware of his habit so none of them (senior cricketers like Dravid/Ganguly and Sachin) want him to be the coach.
