Just 243 Runs needed in 600 balls.
by FunSun on Jul 23, 2007 12:52 PM  | Hide replies

Sure we can WIN else Atleaset we can DRAW the MATCH... Still just 243 Runs only to win...Yes we have got 7 wickets in hand...and 90 overs left(600 balls) ..just 243 run needed...Hope our indian players should Realize and have right attitude to win...whats my suggestion is they dont need take runs each and every overs......just be in crease for Full Day...if any loose over comes ...just take runs...else also no problem...atleast we can save the test by DRAW.

I am having confident on GANGULY & Karthik and may be Dhoni.Sure they will do their best job today. Lets hope for the best...may be Today is going to be OURs...

Note : If VVS Laxman today not perform well means...better he can approach for New Indian COACH...atleast he can do his best job as COACH for India...

Come on INDIA, Cheers for India.

Hi Sing Su,

You have written positively .. but a positive words from me & you are not going to serve the purpose. I am great fan of Indian Cricket. I would love to watch India. But only rain can helps cause we dont have the right set of people who have the real intention to win.

Moreover we lack in one main area and that is confidence.

Anyway no harm in being positive .. ALL THE BEST INDIAN TEAM ... IF YOU THINK YOU CAN THEN YOU REALLY CAN.

India can make history today by winning the match and this target and players like ganguly, dhoni, laxman, karthik i think india should win easily... but i dont have much confidence in this batsman....right now england has 70% chance of winning,,,If indian batsman does not loose saurav and karthik in first sesiion then india will have 70% chance...

I really like ur attitude...while we all PRAY that India would at least draw if not WIN today, the fact is that the way Indians have ever played on the 4-5th day of a test match either to win and/or draw d match, they have never managed to do either - WE HAVE ALWAYS LOST, except for 2 instances in 1970s...that's going a bit too far in history...as for Dhoni, many an opportunity outside the sub continent he has got - but he has failed miserably...d only hope is Krthik, but someone has to hangon with him and in these seamy conditions our Indian batsmen who have d tendency to prod n prod d outgoing deliveries - d chances r that we would end up on d losing side, yet again...so sorry!!

There have been numerous ocassions of india going into the 5th day with a chance to win but failed, sometimes, miserably. As far as this match is concerned, if we don't lose any wickets until lunch, we will have a chance to win. Otherwise, the match could finish by lunch itself. If India wins, it would be because of a good partnership between Laxman and karthik, not ganguly and Karthik. Ganguly is sure of losing his wicket in the first 5 overs.

ur attitude is good. But I am sure we will either win or lose the match. Coz sachin is out. Had Sachin been there, we are sure to lose the match or draw the match if Sachin goes on and gets his hundred. Any ways just wanna a make a mathematical change,
the number of ovrs = 90 overs
number of balls bowled each ovr = 6 balls

Hence the number of balls remaining is 90 X 6 = 540 balls for India to get 243...

May India win this game. All the best India!!!

God & Luck only can save us. And it is now proven fact that whenever we need Sachin to stay there and score he fails. How in the world we can say he is a match winner. We are in a very difficult position. Ganguly already had 02 lives. If Bell had taken that catch of Ganguly we might be four down by this time. It is better for us to think about next test.
There is no point in playing with two Wicket Keepers drop Dhoni & Jaffer for the next test and take Yuvraj & Gambhir or Ramesh powar and give Kaarthik wicket keeping. Gambhir is also a good fielder.

I dont understand why they have taken Ishant Sharma with them.

It has been done before. So, have patience, be optimistic... we can still win.

Anyway, irrespective of the 5th day's outcome, the team needs to be revised. I dont see why we have 2 wkt keepers - we should pick only one of Kartik/Dhoni. I would vote Kartik becuase he is a good opener and can hang around if needed; while Dhoni is a pinch-hitter and is not expected to stay around and save a game. If we replace Dhoni with Yuvray, we have a dependable in-form batsman, a finisher and another go-to bowler.

Mr. Thakruta

Agreed that Karthik is a good player and a better keeper than Dhoni. And Yuvraj is too good a player to be left in the bench.

But u know, By dropping Dhoni, we are making Karthik to keep wickets full time and then come back and open the inning. This aspect can be pretty exhausting both physically and mentally. A keeper should maintain high concentration levels all the time, 90 overs every single ball. It is painstaking and after all this, turn back and open the batting could become disasterous.

So in a way, Dhoni's presence is required.
If karthik has to keep wickets- he should not open.

Or should drop someone who is not performing (i can easily think of 2 or 3) and bring in yuvraj. In this case both Karthik and Dhoni would play.

Or we can have jaffer and gambhir open and have karthik bat down the order. In this way we can drop Dhoni and bring in yuvraj. Or the other probability would be to drop any of the non-performing star player and bring in Yuvi and give another chance to Dhoni.

It is a tough proposition and our think tank should work all possibilities before choosing the 11 for the next test

There are two different things, talent and application. Sehwag is talented but his application is at question more often than not. Gambhir is talented but it is his application which makes him a better choice then Sehwag.

Talent without application is of no use. Application on the field can bring more laurels than talent. The finest examples of sheer application skills would be Steve Waugh, Shiv, Chanderpaul, Rahul Dravid etc. They might not be gifted but were able to overcome that by sheer application.

India Cant draw it can only win or loose
by Deepak on Jul 23, 2007 12:20 PM

In most probabilities India will loose the match cant draw it except if it rains. We dont have players who have patience except Laxman who can hang around.Dhoni can stay ther fro some time if he plays his shots otherwise he is a matter of few balls.Dada will most probably get out on offside eithre caught ate slips or gully playing his fav shot.
For this match to win Dinesh karthik is the key with Laxman on other end.

Day 5
by prakash mohanasundaram on Jul 23, 2007 12:09 PM  | Hide replies

I guess we are seeing an interesting Test so far. quite patchy!. Now we have a defined task 243 runs in 90 possible overs with 4 recognized batsmen and 4 tailend batsmen. The game plan suggested by me on day 3 still holds good. Gangs and Karthik should carry on well beyond lunch. One of them should think of carrying on till the end. Should not get overwhelmed by the occassion instead take it one ball at a time. Play the ball at its merit. Karthik should curb his instinct for taking quick singles cos both Gangs and Laxman are not good runners and u cant expect them to run like Bevan all of a sudden, instead it is eazy for karthik to adapt cos it is for the team.

Next in line is Dhoni, he should try and spend some time in the crease. 243 in 90 overs means the players have time on their hands. Should also try to put it to best use.

Its not lost yet! but we our players should concentrate and work really hard to save this test.

avishek, there is no doubt cricket was organized better during Dalmia's days. There is also no doubt that ganguly was the desired type of captain than Dravid or Azzu. I was a great admirer of Ganguly in one dayers. The way he lofts the ball is incredible. Though for political reasons Ganguly was removed, it was a right decision from cricket selection angle. Ganguly had to distance himself from Dalmia to get back his place in the team and not because he scored tons of runs while he is away. But whatever way his comeback is, he is now shoing great personality as a cricketer with the bat. I wish he would show the same today also.

"I play to entertain, I play to enjoy myself, I play to express myself," said Pietersen, who was ninth out for 134 as he attempted to force the pace against RP Singh. "But the most important thing is setting myself and the team up to win the Test match. That's why I gave my wicket away trying to get a few more runs. If I was playing for myself, I could have quite easily still been batting now."

"We were looking to get a 400 lead, so I was pretty cross to get out at 380, but that's the way I play, I'll do anything," he said. "I do like to have fun, but this was one of those innings where I definitely put the team first. I always get told to carry on, so I'll keep doing what I'm doing, and as long as I can do I will do."

Kevin Pietersen and hyperbole go together like champagne and strawberries, so for him to describe his ninth Test century - and his third in four visits to Lord's - as the best and most challenging innings of his life was probably stretching credulity just a fraction. Even so, the glorious excess of Pietersen's celebrations today told a tale-and-a-half. After an apparent downturn in his early-season form, compounded by last week's claims that he was "exhausted", this was a scolding statement of renewed intent.
"That was right out of the top drawer," said Pietersen. "I'd probably rate that as No. 1 to be totally honest. The conditions last night and this morning were as testing as I've had them in international cricket, or county cricket for that matter. You could see by my celebrations how happy I was, because that really, really was a difficult day for batting."
For all the diligence of India's swing-dominated attack, was the occasion really more testing than Shane Warne and Brett Lee on the final day of the Oval Test in 2005, or Shoaib Akhtar and his cohorts on a dusty deathbed in Faisalabad three months later? Or, for that matter, any number of his lone-gunman performances in Australia this winter just gone? Unquestionably not, although Pietersen was living only in the moment during this innings. Seeing as he contributed almost half of England's second-innings runs - and more than three times as many as any other batsman - this was undoubtedly a good thing.
