Dear paper tigers, forget the statistics
by Ajay Kumar on Jul 21, 2007 06:25 PM  | Hide replies

Indian%u2019s performance in England best shows the true face of strong batting line up. Indian players n fans r more inclined to statistics n personal records than to results of the match. That leads to our team labelled as paper tigers.
For a true picture, remove all the records made by them against weak teams like Bangla/Kenya/Zimbabwe,etc. At the most, runs scored against weaker teams should be weighed lesser like 10% i.e. a hundred against Bangla fetch them only 10 runs. In the same way, runs scored against Aussie or SA shud b given weightage of 150% i.e. 65 runs against good teams wud fetch them a century. The way runs r scored is also imp. Sewhwag%u2019s triple century with four lifes in Pak can not b compared to Laxman%u2019s match winning 281 against Aussie.
Pl forget the avg. or stats. Weigh the results.

if u dont care about statistics, y are u talking about 150% and 10%? thats a stupid idea anyway. runs are runs. yes, batsman are not doing well. simple as that, u dont need to bring all these things into it

I meant ignore stats. But still, if some1 is obsessed with it, then give due weightage to the opponents.

Just to put the record straight on results. Laxman played a fantastic inning to score 281 but the "result" of a win for India was achieved by 3 wickets of Hayden, Gilchrist and Steve Waugh in the last session of the last day, by none other thant Sachin Tendulkar. But for those wickets the match was a sure draw.

If you don't like giving credit to Tendulkar that is fine because no one can do anything if someone wants ignore the facts in weighing results.

By the way, your knowledge of the game should tell you that Sachin was a Bucknor wicket ( for the nth time) and not an Anderson wicket in this test. Bucknor has done it time again right from declaring him run-out in South Africa and even refusing to refer to 3rd umpire. The replays were very clear that he had made the run. If I remember right today was 7th or 8th time that Bucknor claimed Sachin's wicket. Just like the Sri Lankan umpire had a particular liking for Sourav. We all waste no time blaming the players but forget that they are at the mercy of such uselees biased pricks called umpires. I have not read anyone raising this issue.

It is high time to start a crusade against Bucknor and umpires like him. They are no good for the game. They can destroy careers. Certainly not on in this day and age of technology.. Does any one care?
