good one

Why Irfan, Sehwag, and Kumble? What is going on between the captain, selectors, board and these lucky players? After Irfan was sent back from South Africa, he never played on any international ground or never faced any international team. How did Rahul say he is back in form? What was the criteria for sending him back from South Africa? Poor form? Excuse me, what form did Irfan show in these few weeks to be back in the team?

100 crores people are cheated by these bookies.

Why Sehwag?
by Satish on Feb 14, 2007 06:34 AM  | Hide replies

Interesting eye opener. BCCI exempt from tax. My company deducts my tax at source. If my code is wrong, I get a warning and if my code gives cosistent problems, I am out of the company. For keeping inconsistent players like Sehwag in the team, BCCI gets tax exemption. Selectors get a big pay. Captain gets big advertising money. Great!

Satish, BCCI exempt from tax because we are wasting our time to watch this game and hence this game is definitely a bigger entertainment than probably cinemas also in India and thats why it should be. If your source code is wrong then the program will not work or probably the controls will miss in the entire software. Compare that to cricketing field it is scoring 0s in 20 consecutive game and no one has done that. You have 100 K chances to debug your own software and they cannot play a single ball again. Howz that?

Bill Gates once said... Life isn't fair.. get used to it. Which company do you work for? Because if it is TCS or Infy, you are not going to get fired, even if you write crappy code. :)
Selection is an honorary job. They dont get big pays. Hence people like gavaskar, shastri etc who have TV contracts never became selectors.

Great article at right time
by Manjool Patel on Feb 14, 2007 05:38 AM

Congretulation! to Mr Mohan Kalyanasundaram.
Selection of Sehvag is nothing but bankruptcy of
basic sense. Just because he had scored two time large score (in Pakistan on a dead pitch), once upon a time, to dream that will repeat again is nothing but nonsense. Arguments made by Madanlal and Kapildev on "AajTak" tv channel are as follow::
(1) When Sehvag bat, bowler of opposite team becomes fearful.
(2) He played good before, so even though he is out of form his ability stays.
You can apply this arguments for any known personalities. After 632 years of slavery this country needs a white foreigner as Coach. That foreigner can successfully fire Captain of nation's #1 game. Some members of BCCI are also responsible for that dirty game. After Saurav played extra ordinary in South Africa, BCCI and Dilip Vengsarkar conspired to make Sachin Tendulkar Vice captain!!. This is a person who quit captainship on his own twice before. His captainship wasn't remarkable even. When it comes to captainship, records of captainship should be verified not who is senior most or good batsman. Negligence for Ganguly in this regard is shame for BCCI & Vengsarkar.

Mohan Kalyanasundaram - Are you crazy
by on Feb 14, 2007 05:04 AM  | Hide replies

I feel this article is written by a frustrated Cricket lover and not by any professional writer. Mohan Don't mix emotions with Profession.I personally feel that the team picked for World Cup is the best India had to offer. Lot has been said and written about Sehwag's form but classic players like Sehwag cannot be tamed for long.

Guys lets support our cricket team and stop cribbing now.

Cheers
Ash

Excuse me - If the team was picked by professionalism then Irfan or Sehwag wouldn't get a place.
Listen to yourself man. Some of the players clearly got it based on someone's "emotion", not their "profession"!

Not sure - how to treat this article ; trash it in utter disgust or have a hearty laugh seeing an 'out of balance' column in rediff who once upon a time had the pride of good columnist to write for. man - this guy sure got up on the wrong side of the bed - talking about congressmen, supreme court, public opinion, trashing vengsarkar with no co-relation what-so-ever makes me wonder what state of mind he was in to write this - interstingly what state of mind the rediff editor too to accept this. had a good laugh though at no cost. Thanks to rediff editor for this wonderful posting. I do mean it.

I am not sure if you understood this article correctly. He is right on the point, but looks like you totally misunderstood! Wake up man.

You had a good laugh out of it when there is nothing funny!!!

Explain me this...

1. Why do BCCI need tax breaks?
2. Why can't it be democratic election for BCCI committee?
3. Why can't younger players get chance in place of out of form senior players?
4. What's wrong asking a player to earn the place in the team?

1. Because they generate more money in the game than any other profession or entertainment in the game.
2.Because it will become like Indian politics if it is democratic.
3.They are getting it. Now there is none. And more over during world cup start no one picks up completely young people.
4.Nothing, but for that to happen you need to give players some chance.

1. If they are capable of generating more money then why the hell do they need tax breaks?
2. So you want dictatorship! BCCI now is like Pakistani govt(dictatorship), would you not prefer indian govt over pakistan?
3. There is NONE!!! Excuse me, have a look at domestic cricket man...there are plenty. They need a few opportunities to prove themselves. Dravid was given a lot of chances, that's why is a great cricketer now.
4. Sehwag was given a lot of chances. One 50 in over 6 months!!! You want to give changes forever?

Democratic process???
by Kiran Tauro on Feb 14, 2007 03:29 AM

I can understand if the crib says that the team should represent India, and not the BCCI. But what about democracy? I remember the joke about Manmohan telling Bush that India wants to send people to the moon - 100 people, and maybe one of them would be an astronaut. The rest would come from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes etc etc

It just occured to me. As the author of the article suggests that
1. "Supreme Court of India jump in to see how a body like BCCI field an Indian eleven not taking their citizens into confidence"
2. "We are more than a billion people"

If supreem court start taking statement from every citizen (again true democracy) about the team constitution and selection, it better get to work immediately as it will take 4 yrears (may be more)to complete that...hmmm.. BCCI you also have to declare the team for the next world cup now.

VEERU IN !! ANY LOGIC ?
by on Feb 14, 2007 01:30 AM  | Hide replies

WELL, CALL IT A CRAP COLUMN OR WHATEVER.... I DONT CARE ....... BUT WHY IS VIRENDER SEHWAG IN THE TEAM ?? WHY ?? ....... WHATS THE LOGIC ?? .. SOME PLAYERS PLAYERS WERE KEPT OUT OF THE TEAM BECAUSE OF THE SO CALLED POOR PERFORMANCE AND VEERU IS IN WITH A VERY VERY POOR PERFORMANCE !! APPLY THE SAME LOGIC IN HIS INCLUSION AS WELL ....HE DOES NOT DESERVE A PLACE IN THE INDIAN TEAM GIVEN HIS PAST PERFORMANCE !!

As every and all time greats say Form is temporary but class is permanent. Show me a match winner like Sehwag in our country as of now!!!!

He can ruin any good bowler...ofcourse if in form. But niether Raina nor kaif or any other as of now have this destructive attitude!!

This is wht is important... I see only 3 player inclusion for world cup debatable... Kumble, Karthick and Sreeshanth. Should have picked Powar for Kumble and another batsman for Sreesanth, since Karthick is doing well its ok!!!

Veru is a good player and has proved it often. Any ways there is no one who has performed better than him in last 4 months and has been left out. So its better to play with a known player rather than bringing some one in nappies as last minute resort.

How about putting a quota system based on cast and religion (after all true democracy). And if you don't get enough from one specific group then that post shall be left blank and team should play with out that/those player(s)... (as it happenes in other jobs). It will be cool.
