Crap Article
by Vinayak Gadekar on Feb 08, 2007 11:10 PM  | Hide replies

Is the author of this article suggesting that it was BCCI and Pawar's mistake not to shift the tie back to Pune once they had known that it was going to rain in Kolkata ???????????

What logic is this ? It has become a fashion to blame BCCI and Pawar for every thing....How can you shift something massive as a ODI back to Pune using a rain forecast in Kolkata and that too by looking at the forecast two days before the game ????

This rediff author has lost his brains....(as well as the rediff editor by allowing this article to come on the site !!!!).

Vinayak, Know your facts before commenting. How to shift a massive ODI to Pune??? Do you know it was originally in Pune and shifted only few days before to Kolkatta.

Also, Author is very fair in BCCI/CAB cunningness on not to refund.

Prem, let me tell you a real-life story....

Shane Warne in his autobiography wrote 'If the batsman feels the ball is turning, it is turning....' referring to a straight one which he bowled to a batsman to get him out.

So, if you feel that the whole world and the BCCI is against you, then God save you.

What I meant is it is all in the mind. May I ask, did you read the terms and conditions on the ticket when you bought the ticket ????

So get your facts right before buying a ticket otherwise the next time also u will buy a ticket and it will rain and u will again crib that you have been duped.

Be smart dear....

Dear Vinayak

It was bcoz of the cricketing spirit that almost 100000 people went to watch the match.

BCCI should take care of the spectators, who have spent their money and time standing in the ques and waiting for the match to restart.

BCCI should not take the Indian spectators for granted.

Not True! Not True!! Not True!!!

When you talk about merit it is politics.
When you talk about national integration and fellow feeling, it is politics!
What an age has come! Emotions are termed as politics!!!
Bring emotions in and cricket would be so lively.
I am shocked the way some people were trying to put a stamp of betrayal or gaddari against the Eden Crowd during the last outing with SA.
Never ever compare Saurav dropping episode with anything else.
A standing captain with so much success cannot be treated like that and just remember the mischievous face of Jumping More!
His crooked smile, his persona non grata attitude to Saurav, remember everything and you find some reason, if not logic behind the behaviour.
Saurav has slapped all the critics with his bat.
Blind Persons like Raj Dung or K More are no longer even heard in the press and media.
The behaviour of the crowd may be wrong but the reason was right.
Bengal never stops short of showing their emotions to the nation.
'No Kapil no test' cry roared the crowd once with banners and posters when Gavaskar -Kapil row came to the surface and Kapil was dropped.
Bengal connection notwithstanding, Saurav is always a special hero for his aggressiveness, patriotism and captaincy throughout the length and breadth of the country.
When you treat the idol shabbily, protests are bound to come.
Emotions are like glass - fragile and to be handled with care.
The protests at Eden that time were not limited to Bengalis alone.
It gathered a snowballing effect, entire country joined, the media, the press, the people from all Indian cities and villages,
the film stars the politicians-all.
It became a sort of people's movement.
It happened never before in the World history of sports and what a surprise!
You keep the man out- he shines in the press media and people's hearts.
You bring in him and he dazzles with the bat.
There is really something in him, call it determination call it charisma or whatever.
He is really the captain material.
Some do not understand crowd behaviour and are crying hoarse as if something like Ayodha/Godhra/Bombay Blast/ Nithari/ Bombay Riot/Tandoor Murder has taken place here.
They do not know the culture of tolerance of broadness of Bengali mind and blowing the episode out of proportion.
They are trying to prove that Bengalis are traitors.
Not true! Not true!! Not True!!!
They are wronged against.
Partitioned! cut!! But never left the mainstream.
No one should think that they only are the whole of India, vast area exists behind their back yard, in front of entry gate, to the left and to the right of their village, city or province boundary.

Valid thoughts
by Praveen Raj on Feb 08, 2007 10:58 PM

Cricket, in India, is just like life. Politics, profiteering, media overkill and lots of big questions in it. If at all anyone is at the receiving end it is the viewer/ticket-buyer or a player out of form!

If the Boards and Control Authorities really cared, there should be rematches and refunds. And even match-referee recalls of decisioned-out players by umpires on the field who cannot see as good as the match referee, or the hawk-eye or the snickometers. With all the modern day technology no scope should be left for erratic decisions on the field or off the field. give the mets their due too! jaago india jaago. cricket, like democracy, shoudl be of the people, for the people and by the people.

by yogesh soni on Feb 08, 2007 10:51 PM

Well obviousl rediff is short on cash that is why they have probably hired relatively under-qualified guy like prem to write articles on rediff. Lets say rediff is not going to fire him. Atleast can we let him know a few intricacies of cricket and human logic ?? I mean someone shud tell him to stop bullshitting and get down to more seriuos business. I miss a really well written article about the game I love :((

My dear Prasad, what exactly do you think DL would have done in this situation? If SL is given 25 overs and scores, say, 180, you think DL will then tell India to score 200? DL operates ONLY after one innings has been completed and IF it rains while the second innings is on. Dear reader, please analyze posts before posting.

I guess you are a BCCI Spokesman in disguise. Can you use D/L to play cricket in a swimming pool? The main purpose of the article is to show how sporting the fans were and how un-sporting BCCI was.

Match Fixing this guy is totally blabbering on that context. Any person who has seen the match ball by ball must have known very well that it was much more than match fixing.

Like he said the planning was very poor and also the weather people were pointing out on the possibility of rain for atleast a week before.

Mr. Satpathy stop ridiculing the team by writing these kind of baseless allegations just because you can write them.

What kind of contest would that have been? Sri Lanka batted with 50 overs in mind; after playing 18.3 overs, were you going to tell them "they had only 6.3 overs to go -- while the Indian team would have had the advantage of knowing, from the start, that they were playing 25 overs and hence could throw their bats around from the get-go?"----------

Prem, you made a blunder there. Duckworth-Lewis rule is good enough to take all these into considertation. Had that happened, India would have been chasing more than what Srilanka made in 25 overs. Even a layman knows this, it is surprising coming from a so called cricket pundit like you.

It is easy to critisize anyone - player, BCCI or whomever you want to. But if you dont update your knowledge, you will look stupid at the end of it!

-BTW, sorry for my cheap trick to get my reply on forst page. I just want to make sure that prem reads it!

Seriously: what do you think? Should there not be the provision for games to be called off at the point where it is plainly impossible to play? Should spectators not be given partial, if not full, refunds?

This is the juice of the whole article go by this. The author is 150% right and it is one of the best article!!
