Great to know that talented man got the opportunity.
I have seen him playing Ranji trophy and after a long time I have such dominating cricketer in India. It gave me the glimpse of Peiterson of England with same attitude.

Congrats and Good Luck!

its good to see that younger player are being selected but wht bothers me is that when the selector panel not in a position to name the world cup squad y give chance to a new player who will not be in the world cup team instead they shud have called expirenced player like vvs laxman, dinesh mongia, kaif etc so that if they can prove their form they cud be amongs the probables for the world cup. i don't know what the selectors want to prove with this move.
its good to give younger player a chance but not when u hav something big lined up in front of you for which you are not yet perpared.

Eden Gardens
by rohan patil on Feb 08, 2007 10:45 AM  | Hide replies

The crowd at Eden gardens have always let down our Indian team. Be it the recent South africa seies or the worldcup, during which Srilanka was awarded the match because of the crowd behaviour.

ICC should strip off Eden gardens from the official play ground status.

Mr. Patil,
They are like match sticks. Like matchsticks, they have only heads but no brains and ignite at the slightest friction.

One of the responses to your message (apparently, it has been reported as abuse), proves it.

Saurav
by rohan patil on Feb 08, 2007 10:42 AM  | Hide replies

Saurav Gaungly was deserved to be dropped having failed miserably in many matches. The consolation for him being included earlier was only because the team was winning (withou Sauravs performance). During that time his feet were not on ground.
After being dropped he came to his senses and concentrated on the game and thus earned his place in the team.

Ganguly was dropped b'cuz he was non performing captain, poor form and pathatic batting almost 3 yers of later stages of captains. but he still he enjoyed the captaincy b'cuz dlamiya his mentor had power in bcci. he was dropped b'cuz ICC put the ban And gnaguly went to media dn daily basis accusing selection commtee, senior players and he used the strong politicians influnece to getback to backdoor entry and ganguly is only politician cricketer who used media and politics to gain public attention and symapty. he destroyed the team spirit when he vomotted drssing room conflict infront of media during Xim tour and he backstabbed dalmiay when dalmiay lost his power and changed party. laxman, kumble were also out of team even after good performance. but they never make such noise in media or never accused anybody. And during odi match in Nov 2005 crowed humilitte dravid and team even before the match started, some ppl tried to hit dravid and chappell. dravid was blamed for gnaguly's outset b'cuz he made captain. Now also just 2 days before the how come confedential report published by tv channell?? how can player become 12th man overnight just b'cuz he won award when there are experienced players are doing well in domistic cricket. is not that politics?? this is a shaemful

some stupid remarks from you my friend. you don't know the statistics of Ganguly - the royal bengal tiger. he is one of the some persons scored 10000 runs in odi.he scored 100s in 22nd time and which is just after sachin tendulakar. he was honoured as man of the match in several no of times and it is more than any other cricketers in indian team. he is not a politician. chappel with the help of kiran more and dravid played a dirty politics to out him from the team. remember in past when no slectors need dravid in odi team due to his slow scoring rate then ganguly was the only person who kept him as a wicketkeeper other wise dravid will be out from the indian team. ganguly is the greatest captain in indian cricket, i am not telling it, it is telling by the records. mind it indian cricket was going to hell in post era of sourav ganguly and then the selectors took a right step to return back him and then the great indian has proved again his ability. my dear friend, now bengal tiger is roaring again and you and others people like you are requested to shut up your mouth and stop the nonsense.

Nothing is going to change your attitude towards Ganguli. You guys love to hate Ganguli and continue to do so irrespective of his contributions to the Indian cricket. Because of the sick mentalities he has been branded 'as more of a Bengali' and 'less of an Indian' which is foolish and ridiculous. You dont need to be a bong to appreciate his skills. Today Dalmia is history and so will be Power tomorrow. But the legends never die and so is Ganguli.

Saurav and Eden
by Indra Sengupta on Feb 08, 2007 09:44 AM  | Hide replies

Never ever compare Saurav episode with anything else.
A standing captain with so much success can not be treated like this and just remember the face of Jumping More!
His crooked smile, his persona non grata attitude to Saurav remember everything and you find some reason if not logic behind the behaviour.
Saurav has slapped all the critics with his bat.
Blind Persons like Raj Dung or K More are no longer even heard in the press and media.
The behaviour of the crowd may be wrong but the reason was right.
Bengal never stop short of showing their emotions to the nation.
'No Kapil no test' cry roared the crowd once with banners and posters when Gavaskar -Kapil row came to the surface and Kapil was dropped.
Bengal connection notwithstanding, Saurav is always a special hero for his aggressiveness, patriotism and captaincy.
When you treat that idol shabbily protests are bound to come.
Emotions are like glass - fragile and to be handled with care.
The protests at Eden that time were not limited to Bengalis alone.
It gathered a snowballing effect, entire country joined, the media, the press, the people from all Indian cities and villages, the film stars the politicians-all.
It became a sort of peoples movement.
It haapened never before in the World history of sports and what a surprise!
You keep the man out- he shines in the press media and people's hearts.
You bring in him and he dazzles with the bat.
There is really something in him, call it determination call it charisma or whatever.
He is really the captain material.
Mob psychology is something different and its expressions do not necessarily conform the parliamentary standards or even parliamentary standards are falling now a days.
Crowd behaviour is always something different in Eden.
One lakh people- can you ever imagine in other smaller grounds.
Any priliminary chapter in a sociology book will tell you how numbers are importannt in irrational crowd behaviour.
I still however believe that the reason may be right but the action was wrong.

Hats off to you well said and it is history and never ever in near future will any player will get such a support from all corners of life that Saurav got and he kept to the expectation and did not let us down.
The proof is that he is topping the Rediff list of probable for the world cup. Let us not play dirty regional politics on such good cause of returning a good player to the national team.
BEST WISHES TO INDIAN TEAM.

There has been a lot said about the Kolkata incident. I being a Bengali wud also say what the crowd did was wrong. But bengalis and specially Kolkattans are known to be emotional. But still supporting SA instead of India is not something people should be prowd off. We r Indians first. I know people in Kolkata are very fond of Dada. But I am sure even their Dada wont want them to behave in that manner. And as for Ganguly he was out of the team for his pathetic form and not for his captaincy. And now he is back with a bang(till now yes cant say if he will be playin the same in the future matches). So lets just wait and see. And as for Mr Chitta Rath, that Ganguly has been getting sympathy votes, I want to say that this is great for someone. This shows that he is still being liked by people. Why doest Sehwag get sympathy votes, he was also thrown out of the side.

ganguly was back b'cuz of influnence of left party mps who pressuriesd the selection committe to select ganguly instead of Badri of TN now bangalies are very happy b'cuz manoz is selected many players did not get a chance even after best performance. Even laxman and kaif need a chance They are not getting public votes b'cua they don't go and cry infront of media like ganguly did and no politicians support

Dada was (or even if it is sachin, like anybody else should be dropped) out of team for his bad performance. Now he is back because of his skills. After being Captain, he lsot his concentration and now he is back , so we should be happy. NOT ONLY BNGALIS, THE WHOLE INDIA IS PROUD OF GANGULY (im not a bengali)....Hereafter he should spaek only with his bat....

The action of crowd at Eden gardens is a shame for us(indians again and not bengalis)

Saurav was dropped for the very simple reason that he was not performing with the bat nor was his captaincy affective for about a year preceding his exclusion. He is back in the team because he is performing well. He was dropped when he was not performing.

The fact that the Kolkata crowd was cheering SA and booing the Indian team was absolutely shameful. It just shows that the crowd beleived they were Bengali first and Indian second. There is no excuse for that. Emotions can never be an excuse for an act like this.

NO REASON ON EARTH CAN JUSTIFY THE BEHAVIOUR OF THAT SECTION OF THE CROWD ON THAT DAY. IF CHAPPEL DID NOT BEHAVE PROPERLY, WHY DO YOU WISH FOR THE INDIAN TEAM LOSE.

This is a sick community with bloated egos who think that they are superior/ cleverer than the rest of the citizens. Not a single person from from this community writing on this forum has had the courage to admit in clear words that the crowd behaviour on that on that day was deplorable. For gods sake, let your feet land on the earth. Your communutity is nothing special from the others.
