Responsibilty of Selectors
by Susobhan Ghosh on Dec 17, 2007 08:02 PM  | Hide replies

Responsibility as I see should not only includes selecting players, but also watch the players performing and prepare a report on individuals for their future participation in the team. For example a player after getting selected for an important tour to Australia, but while in Australia does not put enough effort in the net. It will be selector's duty to note that and warn him and/or make a report on the particular individual that should be considered in his future selection. Selectors may find some one very suitable or the condition of a particular country, and that should also be noted for future selection process. In summary, it is not conceivable to me why BCCI not allowing any selctor to go to Australia, but making possible for 27 representatives to visit Australia for sight seeing and earning their future votes. It appears to me that BCCI has been established as a strong business entity for its board members and representatives, and wee the fans are patronizing them by opening our wallet.

coach and team management is responsible for preparing a player on tour, not that of the selector. also a players performance during a tour should be reported by the coach and team management to the selectors, to enable them to make proper changes/selections.(here i am inclined towards the australian system. on tour the captain is responsible for selection of the eleven, even though a selector travels with them. captain will take the advice (if necessary) of selector and team management, but the decision maker is the captain). but sending delegates is ridiculus.

my team for first test against australia

my team for first test
1. jaffer
2. kaarthik
3. dravid
4. sachin
5. ganguly
6. laxman
7. yuvraj
8. dhoni
9. sehwag
10. kumble
11. pathan

12th man rp singh

many eye brows will raise looking at the above team
but the logic behind this is we dont have any express bowlers or match winner bowlers who can take 20 wickets to win a test in australia.

second thing if we can draw a test, that will boost our players confidence, and it will be a morale win for us.

third aus will try their best to give us a white wash...

so looking at all the factors this team can atleast draw a test in australi.

first read carefully and then give ur opinion

good idea. may be this can be tried after winning a match by fluke and then remaining matches play for a draw.

the above team (if it is selected so) will lose. having 11 tendulkars will not win u matches(or draw). you need keepers and bowlers. its a pity that anybody thinks about selecting a team to draw a match and not to win. comeon grow up man. Players should play to win for our country(as far as i know). i prefer india fighting with 5 bowlers 5 batsmen 1 keeper and losing just marginally than having 8 batsmen 2 bowlers 1 keeper and losing heavily.

u have not picked any fast bowler dear. Your No. 10 (Kumble) is a medium pacer trying to become a spinner and No. 11 (Pathan) a spinner trying to become a Medium Pacer.

I agree with you but the point is... do you think Dhoni will achieve success in Australia. He cant play balls which come slightly below the shoulder. He gives a catch behind then.

These guys never fail to provide entertainment. Look at the pathetic conditions of grounds with no facitlities for paying public. Instead of taking care of that, these people prefer to send some jokers on a joy ride...

Pundits and Gurus, please.....
by Rex ACD on Dec 17, 2007 05:05 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Pundits and Gurus,
Off late there had been so many brickbats directed to BCCI and Cricket Administrators. Now gentlemen, please keep one thing in mind. It%u2019s not an easy job to manage the game at any level. You guys see only the flashy part of it. You see only the officials accompanying a touring side. You do not see the dirty and blue collar part of organizing the game. I have seen them working in the lower levels at close quarters. I challenge all those who blame the officials: can you organize a single Cricket match, say at the lowest level? Do you know how much of logistics are involved? Do you know how much of time, energy and money does people spend on organizing these matches? Above all, have you ever watched a lower level official Cricket match? Things are not as seen in TV on the reality. It takes a lot of sweat to deliver the standards which the game demands. If you feel that former players can mange the show better, you are wrong. They may be good players, but they need not be good administrators at all. Administration is as complex a task as playing the game itself. Finally, to groom a player and the lower end and bring him into the lime light, you do require someone%u2019s dedicated effort and backing; which you get only off those lower end guys. Ask any great players, they would endorse these views. So, if the administrators are touring with the team, just take it as a compensation for all their time, money and effort they had put at the lower level.

I have no knowledge about your experience in admistering any sports leave apart cricket or for that matter any adminstrative function. The way you are presenting the case for the BCCI
Bosses it looks like you are one of the benificiary. It is true that a good player need not be a good admistrator but there are lots of exeptions.I have seen as an youngstar from a
distance late Col Hemu Adhikary managing both
with equal depth and understanding.Given an
opportunity Sunil Gavaskar,Ravi Shastri and Kapil Dev can run BCCI as good if not better
than the present lot exept perhaps Mr Modi who look to be articulate and knows what he is aiming at and where he can reach the goal. The three cricketers are organising their business
in big way Kapil Dev in particular and is doing
better than any articulate CEO.The point is not
who is running the show but the manner they are
treating the selectors like Dilip Vengsarkar
He is no Kiran More. He is head and shoulder
above More.Rest of the selectors are nothing
but ordinary cricket knowing person the type can be found in any corner of the country
exept perhaps to an extent Mt Rao the spiner.
When will our so called adminstrator realise
that sponsora spend money on the basis of the
players not by the way of good book keeping by any Manager.Honestly speaking before Dalmia
adminstrators contribution to BCCI kitty was
nothing to NIL.Dalmia marketed the game with his business brain followers are improving on it
No credit for them.

It looks like Niranjan Shah is writing in a pet name. Shut up. For all the dirty job u are supposed to have done, you are paid handsomely. What standards are u talking about? Everyone in the country knows about ur standards. Cricket is a big business where everyone involved wants to have a bite. Only ones left alone with crumbs are ground level staff.

How do you justify seven delegates from different state boards visiting Australia every week? They once showed on TV the entire dressing room gallery in England filled with board officials while players were standing indoors because there was no seating left for the players outside.

Also, the guys who actually work at the ground level don't get to travel. It's the local politicians who sign papers and look for photo opportunities who take away the incentives. So, don't try to justify such travel by board officials as an incentive trip.

I remember Naranjan Shah walking into the ground just before the T20 world cup presentation and pulling Dhoni aside from the celebrations for a photo opportunity. I feel a way should be devised in the board to get these politicians out.

Hey samir, Why get angry? These jokers are true entertainers. They will start giving obnoxious comments once they reach Australia. Nobody can stop them to go as all a222h222 politicians are involved. so sit back and enjoy their mockery.
One advise to Rex ACD. Those who will go are politicians and absolute jokers. So just stop saving their ass.
