I think
by Girish Rao on Aug 14, 2007 09:10 PM

this series establishes that test cricket is just like one-day cricket in a sense that there is one strong team and a lot of almost equal strengths team. India deserves their victory, but I dont think there is much diffrence in terms of ability between India, England, SriLanka,South Africa,Pakistan.

India did well
by Cecil Fernandes on Aug 14, 2007 08:15 PM

I think Dravid did well by not enforcing the follow on. Winning the series will be as booster to our indian cricketers. Congratulations to our Indian team. Let us be positive and be with the team. if they had to enforce the follow on and lose all would have blaqmed Rahul ravid. Indians are known to criticise both the ways. Congrats to our Indian team.

do a mistake... n then work up..

"its faulty to do a mistake by not enforcing follow-on.. and then cover your mistake by working up more! is this what suggests at the end of the day? dravid did a grave mistake.. we never know he colluded with filthy money makers, but its all visible the way he converted a sure victory into a draw. 1-0 is good result... 2-0 would be great. if he did by mistake then its understandable, but what a shameful decision to take and then support what he took. at the end of the the day.. difference between an indian victory and draw is 4 wickets and 58 overs (of which 15 overs were spared for 12 great singles of our timid captain)"

In this world, nothing is sure my friend. He did the right thing by not enforcing the follow on...who knows how many runs eng would have scored. You forget that in the lords test eng would have won but...
By commenting that "he may have colluded with filthy money makers" you seem to be a pervert.

Kumble reacted a little too strongly
by samson lawrence on Aug 14, 2007 05:42 PM  | Hide replies

The frustration showed. Not good for veteran at his age and experience. The Indians need to cool down a bit. They have taken the aggressive attitude a bit too far. If India dont learn how much to react, they will be in the bad books and officials would be ever ready to hand out fines or punishments. Dont blame the officials for that. And why do good players have to show thier anger so much? Dravid doesnt make sense in what he says. If you cannot win you dont take it out on others.

Well, you have heard the one side of the story. What if Anil made the above statement, saying that KP ran into him, and he was trying to save the game by disturbing the bowler's rhythm??!! And I believe this is the correct story. Anil in specific and Indian in general are veryy cool and well mannered guys. Its the people from the west who take aggressive play to different levels and are boorish.....how abt that?

Kannads have very short temper and they lose cool over the most trivial of issues, sometimes even over non-issues. Some time ago, one of their actors died of natural causes and they went rioting, burning buses and causing havoc in Bangalore. A neighbouring state asks for its share of water water and these guys start shutting down theatres and cable channels. Another neighbouring state asks for the return of a illegally occupied district and these guys get into war mode! The list is endless...

Spoken like the true North Indian you are. If Kannadigas, not Kannads, were really hot tempered they would not have allowed people like you there! What is relevant here is that Kumble has been one of the best behaved persons on the field and he got agitated for some reason. This was a first as far as I can see. Gavaskar made a pertinent point in that if Pietersen was trying to regain his crease, he would have been facing the other way as the bat was in his left hand. MAking comments like Mr Gopal Krishna has is not on.

Kumble crossed the line much the same way that Sreesanth did!! The heat of competitive battle got to Kumble, Sreesanth, Prior and KP in this series!!
Hopefully, the ODI series will be fought in the right spirit and there would be no untoward incident!!

It is part and parcel of the game. Almost every player of any team does this. This is not a big issue. Better to keep quiet

The point is when there is no risk of losing, why not go for the kill
by samson lawrence on Aug 14, 2007 05:33 PM  | Hide replies

This England didnt have the capacity to score more than 450 or survive more than 1 and a half day. So India at worst would have had to score 100 odd runs in half a day.
Zaheer wouldnt have had to bowl long spells. It is at this juncture the others chip in, they have to; to prove they are worthy of their place.
India could always draw the match if the English got a good total up. That would have given India a chance to prove the Indian mettle.
Players at this level shouldnt be afraid of challenges. They are representing India where many people live under impossible conditions. Cowards and people who play safe - too safe; do not really reflect the mighty Indian spirit.
This is a lesson to all youngsters whether they play cricket or not, be brave, show your guts, face chalenges, take up challenges and make us proud of you. A brave man is always respected even in defeat.
If you dont beleive me, look back Rana Pratap, Pourus, were defeated, but we cherish their bravery. In this instant India were never going to loose if they had to bat the last innings. We would at least have seen Indian grit.
What a miss, victories are usually sweet. But this one left a bad taste that will linger for quite somme time.

Come on man......grow up. Stop being 'senti'. Have you heard of something like "Look before you leap". Its no point being overtly aggressive. A leader should inspire, true, but he should also understand his limitations and use his resources judiciously and intelligently, or else one will fall flat on his face. How many times haven' we lost from winning positions in the past? Its not that we win series abroad everyday!! Fifty years from now no one will remember that Rahul was 'defensive' in the 3rd test, but that India won the series 1-0, period.
BTW, we have had enough Pourus in Indian history....enough of this 'gentle losers' tag. Its time to win and show results.
