India needs to alter the method
by Yogesh Patel on Oct 28, 2006 03:19 AM

Irfan wil never succeed against good pace bowlers with swing. The way he got out so many times with inside edge to a moving delivery shows what techniq he got. He can not rotate strike with line and length balls. I hope they all know this. I wake at 3- 4 AM on a working day to watch these matches in USA and paying premium for it, I can see lot of stuff which a good cricketer will pick up watching these games. Looks like most of the players are too casual about the game and seems like everyone is playing for themselves. There is lot of money in cricket now and some players are losing there professionalism to personal gains. In India Bollywood Stars and Cricketers are treated like Gods as these are the main source of their entertainment needs. Plyers can learn so much from how Professional Football, Baseball and Basketball teams operate in USA. All superstars pays so much attention to keep themselves updated with hard workouts and studying the game films of their opponents before the game and correcting their own faults from learning via films and other adavance technics. BCCI has tons of money which should be invested in developing young talents with better grounds and facilities.

India needs to alter the method

The problem isnt Pathan at #3 not that it helps. The problem is that except for Patel and Harbhajan, the bowling is sub-standard -- in the WI match, RP Singh was disastrous, Pathan continued to disappoint, and Agarkar is like crossing a busy road -- many times he gets hit, a few times they miss. I thought 223 was defendable but we just dont have enough bowlers in the 14 to help the cause. Maybe someone remembers Kumble. He still can play.

dont listen to ravi shastri
by curiousguy on Oct 28, 2006 02:12 AM

ravi shastri keeps changing his opinion every now and then.he does not know what he speaks.just knows how to criticise. this man should be ignored.

he was of the opinion that india needs to play 5 bowlers all the time and now he says we to play an extra batsman against the aussies.why so?

he was against the extra batsman formula since it was ganguly,s strategy to go with seven batsman and it had worked for india.india finished as runners up in the last world cup. the result speaks for itself.

he is an anti ganguly and more worried about ganguly and not about india. shame on him. as far cricket is concerned ( as a player and captain)ganguly has proven himself to me much much superior than shastri. the satistics says so.everyone knows that. only the fools ( who does not understand cricket)will not agree.

simple strategy for india-go back to the winning formula of ganguly ( 7 batsman, 4 bowlers, as we have plenty of second line bowlers like sehwag, tendulkar, ganguly, yuvraj ,mongia to share 10-15 overs among them )and bring him back as captain with dravid as his deputy.also bring back kumble. we need him too for the world cup.

Arv Singh
Ravi Shastri's comments on Indian Team
by Arv Singh on Oct 27, 2006 09:34 PM

I agree totally with Ravi's assessment of the situation. Indian team management is experimenting too much that is resulting in poor performances.
1. Promoting Pathan as a batsman at No. 3 position not only affects the morale of the middle order, it is also affecting Pathan's performance. He is forgeting the reason why is he in the team and his bowling has suffered over time. Let Yuvraj, Raina, and Mongia take charge of the middle order.
2. Poor team selection with two players almost passengers in the team. RP Singh and Agarkar did not contribute and both currently keeping good players on the bench. Why did they choose to play these two instead of Powar or Kumble on a spinning track defies common sense?
3. Continuing with Sehwag despite recurrinng failures also astounds me. Why not bring in Gautam Gambhir in his place and give Sehwag time to focus on his shortcummings?

Indian Team needs to change
by Hemant Naik on Oct 27, 2006 09:03 PM

You exactly right. We need some one who can stay for long with the bat instead of I Pathan ( a pinch hitter) at the begining of the game. In that sense we need D Mongia as he can even bowl well. At the end of the game we need some one who can increase the run rate where I Pathan is very important. We should not keep players away because we hate them. Even we can include Ganguly in here as he has done very good with Sachin. According to me, the order should be:
Sehwag/ganguly/uttappa/gambhir, sachin, Sehwag/ganguly/uttappa/gambhir, D Mongia, Dravid, Y. Singh, Dhoni, I Pathan, Harbhajan, Agarkar, Kumble, M Patel, Sreeshanth. I hope Indian team will look into and come up again. Wish my team a good hope and future.

Poor team, poor captain, worse coach
by Rahul on Oct 27, 2006 08:26 PM

Time to take some drastic measures. Captain of Indian team must realise that he is the captain and not some Mr.Greg Chappel. If he does not have the guts leave the post. Mr Chappel is useless his methods are nonsense and he only brings despair in the team. Time to change the coach ppl. Wake up.

Amitabh
Indian Team
by Amitabh on Oct 27, 2006 08:20 PM

All suddenly seems to be an experiment with no final goal. The fire seems to lack and we still dont wanna look back at the Ganguly days. I know being a Bengali anything said in favor of Ganguly will be considered as a bias, but today we cant even restrict West Indies on Indian soil for 223? Shastri is right in saying 4 seamers (that too Indian) on Indian soil is unbelievable. Had heard of Anil Kumble who used to win us so many matches on Indian soil. U cannot dump someone just because he is 34 although he was playing much better than the 24s we have as next generation. Bring back Kumble for God's sake and lets win some bloody tournaments.
Dilip Vengsarkar was a hero for me as he fought against all odds in those days og Gavaskar monopoly. I just hope his fighter spirit is still there and he can speak out against the Chappels who have suddenly become the Don of Indian cricket.

Chuck the non performers
by Shivkumar on Oct 27, 2006 07:42 PM

One thing of the indian team that stands out is the way they play without using their brains. Case of the point is Yuvraj Singh. He and Dravid were playing really well and Yuvi takes on Bradshaw who was bowling his 7th over. He would have bowled max 1 over more. This called for discretion rather than a flashy drive. Lara was delaying his spinners which was very obvious. If Yuvi had stuck around he could have easily taken on Samuels and Gayle (who I feel are mediocre spinners, even our gully cricket guys can take them on). I wouldn't like to blame the team for the way they played, its more to do with the way they think on the field. Even Agarkar instead of trying yorkers in the last over gave Samuels a normal delivery which he could hit for a boundry. Lets pray that the Indian Team starts thinks hands on rather then deliberate things after things have ended.
