Allan,we have discussed in this section before start of the one day series that three players were urgently required,Sourav, laxman and Kumble. While Kumble is in the team,Sourav and Laxman are ignored for reasons known best to our selectors and coach. In the trying conditions such as South Africa, we need experienced players. This is nothing new and we had similar experineces even during your bowling time. You have also said correctly that not every one is a genious, and we should not be fooled by only relying on unmatured players of 18 or 19 years because they simply cannot deiver, no matter whatever the coaching of our great Greg Chappel! It will be a pity if we are left only watching disastrous performance by our team when every body would say they have potential to win!Doesn't it sound like a joke!!

Totally agreed, as of now we need some batsman who can play big innings, some one who can hold the batting together. Both Saurav and Laxman are capable of making big hundreds, i feel Laxman has to be the most unlucky player, he's been sitting out of one dayers because he's not swift in the field, whereas guys like Kaif and Raina get a nod because of their fielding even though they have been hopeless with the bat.

Chapell Ego - Main reason
by senthil on Nov 23, 2006 09:41 PM

Its purely becase of chapell igo, purposely ommiting Laxman and Ganguly without giving fair trail. Lets sack Chapell now, else team India will be more vulnarable in westindies.

india missing Laxman , Ganguly

It is 100% correct. We have to work at present how to get the world cup. When Top 3 players was out, that time some body should give standing. Laxman will do this. everybody knows this. But Laxman not getting chance in Indian team. How many runs scored suresh raina last 10 matches. check first Ganguly will not score that much. We are not giving respcept to the Ganguly who scores 10,000 runs in one-day matches. Unbeatable Indian batting lineup. It will suit now? why? chappel tryed to bat every body at any place but what it is result no body not batting at any place. 1) Sachin 2) Sehwag 3)doni 4)Dravid 5)Ganguly 6)Laxman 7)Yuraj 8) Pathan 9)harbajan 10)Zahir khan 11)Munaf patel
So,8th player all are batsmens, Zahir and harbajan also do good bating.
Dont forget Indain team power based in batting only. not in bowling. So, it is already delay Ganguly and Laxman must come in Indian team immediately.

Is the Message Reaching to the concerned People
by Judson on Nov 23, 2006 08:53 PM

I think its high time people sitting at the Selection table realize this and bring in VVS Laxman without any further delay..A batsman who is capable of scoring runs against Australia consistantly, is far better then any batsman in India except few like Sachin & Dravid. When they can give N number of chances to Segwag, Kaif and off lately Raina, these guys still despite so many opportunities continue to fail and remain in the team. The only problem with Laxman is he is a slow fielder, but if he is being kept out for that reason then, i feel the people who are sitting there in the selection panel are not fit to be there..

BETTER LATE THEN NEVER....

Thanks, DJV

Kaif vs. Laxman
by Ganesh on Nov 23, 2006 08:48 PM

Seriously what has Kaif done to get so many chances? Why our selectors are so biased for him? And why are they so biased against Laxman. Cricket is not a place for affirmative action, it is a place for firm actions

Indian Team Composition
by vijay on Nov 23, 2006 08:30 PM

It does'nt need a expert opinion (Donald's comments) to know that Indian team misses the experience and quality of Laxman and Saurav. The Indian tink-tank should re-think that the exuburanse of youth is not the only formula for victory but the expertize of the senior members is needed to guide them in the right way. Too much dependency on Sachin and Dravid will add more pressure and we could not see anyone else who can rise their game level to prove in alien conditions.

Shewag and Dhoni, has often shown that they are promising but they need someone to play solid on the other end for them to unleash their stroking abilities.

Raina should be made play more domestic and County cricket for 2-3 years before he can take on the bowlers at this level and his future now is shaky if he is exposed more at this level.

Bringing back Laxman, Saurav and add stability to the middle order is the apt solution for the current crisis.

Now that Yuvraj is out of equation for next few series, the middle order is a big hole and too much dependent on the Master batsman and the Wall !!

Wake up Greg.
Wake up Dravid............

Re: India missing Laxman, Ganguly!

I totally agree with Donald. Laxman and Ganguly should be included soon, if not in ODI, must be in test team against South Africa! I have no doudt about the talent of Kaif, Jaffar and Raina, they are all good players but India need experience campaigner like Ganguly and Laxman to face strong SA attack! Test is a 5 day match, so it's not wise to test young guns against quality bowling in lively picth where even player like Ravid and Tendulkar are struggling. I hope selectors will seriously think about this and encourage team India think differently. I bet experience players would boost the morale of the team!
