EXCRICKETER JOINING THE GANGULY PARTY
by lalitha_srik on Nov 24, 2006 03:03 PM  | Hide replies

Donald making statement that SA selectors should call on GIBBS, when GIBBS had played the majestic innings of 175 against Aus team. What one gets the impression from Donalds interview is he just joining the party to call the non performer Ganguly back in the squad. Everybody said his experience in International arena should have been taken into consideration for the SA tour but having said that my argument why he cannot use that huge international experience in county and domestic cricket to get back into some kind of consistency in his batting. Everybody calling him to be back in the squad but just look at his body language in the on going ranji match in mohali, he has just dropped down the order in the second innings and after 6 for 3 he is forced to come out from the dressing rooom. DO WE REALLY REQUIRE THAT KIND OF PERSON IN THE TEAM ?

Hoi?
What are you talking about? Body language? Have you been following the match to comment on it? Dropped down the order? If he had chickened out after the first two wickets, then it was the all the more reason for him to send DDG out after the third wicket fell... And FYKI, it was this experience you are trying to undermine, which helped him score 43 (it was an unfortunate umpiring decision, but let's not get into that.) Agreed, he failed in the first innings, but he more than made it up by claiming 3 wickets (all top order batsmen) in the first innings and with Sodhi's wicket (he was going great guns) in the second innings...
So, be a bit more analytical in your approach before passing your crappy comments on Ganguly... He might not be looking the same Ganguly of 98-00, but even then, he would have been far, far more valuable to the team than your Rainas and Mongias...
So, chill...
Cheers,
Sree

it happen with everyone when they have a bad phase in life..
I still feel ganguly is a gr8t player who need pysco. help to get back his form .....

if u really think that domestic cricket matters a lot then why raina dhoni kaif and of late dravid cant perform in the international matches.if u look at their ranji matches they are very consisitent with their form.but what about the international scene?dont forget that dada scored a century 118 in the match against north zone in guwahati under hard circumstances.if u always look at the negative point of cricketers like ganguly who has the second most no of hundreds in one day cricket next to sachin u r making a wrong statement.many flaws can be p[ointed out at the indian team the indian captain the selectors and the coach.in tours like sa,australia,nz and england u need aggressive players like ganguly and techniques like laxman.they at least can help india put up a fight.

Well, It will be funny if we still talk about Ganguly who has not shown anything promising in the last few months other than one century in domestic match. Laxman has better record tests than Ganguly and even had better record in ODIs than the likes of Kaif etc. He is the only Indian who scored 3 ODI centuries in a week after which he was taken out of ODI's. Whatever we talk about Ganguly's record is past and recent record shows that Ganguly is finished. Whereas Laxman is doing well till the last WI series.

Donald is partially right

It is absolutely correct that in the quest for youth, Greg has destroyed the balance of once formidable Team India, making it poor Team Chappel(!).He tried to build the team in Aussie mould by first removing all old guys in quick stroke with blatant support of last selection committee of weak kneed third grade ex players. Rahul remained as he was the captain and none could dare to touch Sachin. The aggressiveness, togetherness and combativeness of Team India, built by Ganguly with so much of compassion by breaking barriers of language and religion, was also lost in the making of Team Chappel. Zahir and Kumble is back but damage is already done. Rahul now has to dictate terms by accepting advices only by choice from this videshi coach, bring back Ganguly and Laxman forgetting old enimities and make a last ditch effort to rebuild Team India again . Greg was never an India enthusist in his playing days and has now terribly misread the Indian psyche. As Sunny Gavaskar has commented in a column that Indians' approach to Cricket is totally different from Austrelians and will remain so. Greg wanted to build an Austrelian team out of Indian players and has failed. Best wishes to Rahul.

Saurav Ganguly & Laxman .... in Indian Team
by Mukundan on Nov 24, 2006 12:31 PM  | Hide replies

If India want to win, it is mandotary to include Ganguly and Laxman in the playing eleven.

Trying new faces is a welcome one but not at the cost of experienced players like Ganguly and Laxman.

Chappels effect on Team India & recent performances of Team India is the clear indicator to the selectors to re-look the batting composition.

just check Laxman's ODI record. He doesnt average more than 32-33 with a poor strike rate of below 70.

Thanks for Mr Donald the Great
by Kiran on Nov 24, 2006 11:02 AM  | Hide replies

Really VVS Laxman is Class Player and he is better than any other player in the team. His class is vissible only for opposite player because they are the real players who watch the laxman's beatiful stores from the ground. Whereas the selector and audience don't observe from the feild/and are blind persons

Any how thanks Mr.Donald for remembering such a great player. And we all cricket lovers will be missing Laxman good cricket

Regards
Kiran

I am agreed what you said in your mail. But you have been seeing only one way. The way is he is an experience player in the team. Every body knows he doesn\'t have ability for one day team... Because he don\'t know how to fielding and bowling...He is a really useless fellow in the Indian team. He is in the team last 8 years. But he was pinged only 2 or 4 matches...If you tell he is the classic player... He should perform well not a100% that\'s not possible at all but at least 25% he want to show his ability. But he would be played well 15%... Suppose they (team management) would call to him in SA... Our team will be go to bad condition. Every body knows they won\'t call to him! I am also believedThis is my small suggestion dont mistake me I am expecting replay from you?!

I totally agree with Donald......If the selectors don't call back Ganguly and Balaji before the world cup.....Indian Team wl not qualify the qualifying round................First Sack players like Dinesh Mongia,Suresh Riana who is not able to take singles and even Wasim Jaffer...I think Dada is a lot better player than this useless fellows...........

Missing Laxman...
by Hemant on Nov 24, 2006 09:12 AM

I don't agree with your view that India has come to the situation like SA when they lost the services of Donald,Cronje,Kirsten,Rhodes. After the great cricket betting scandal, slowly but surely a team India had developed only under one very enthusistic captain, that is Sourav Ganguly. It is no secret that after the arrival of great Greg, whose candidature for the coach's post was not approved by Gavaskar, this Team India started to degenerate.First they removed Ganguly.Second, they left Laxman out,put Irfan Pathan to bat at number three( can you believe!),making Sehbag bewildered, making Sachin not knowing what is expected of him. With this team, they can beat one Sri Lanka or Bangladesh back home, but surely not a class team such as SA!If no changes are made now,the writing is clearly on the wall about the results of one day series in South Africa!Greg must have booked his air ticket back home!
