India's Victory in West Indies
by SURESHDEWRI on Jul 03, 2006 11:56 AM

Congratulations to Dravid and his boys for the series victory. Dravid has once again proved that he has been the most consistent Indian batsman ever to have played test cricket. Anil Kumble needs to push himself for a couple of more years to reach 600 test wickets. Because he desrves nothing less. The new pace duo Sreesanth and Patel have all the potentials to become top class pace bowlers in international cricket. What was irritating was Kaif's continuous selection in the test team. He has been the luckiest Indian cricketer. He does not belong in the test team. He is not good wnough. A better player should be selected.Actually the score 1-0 does notat all look satisfactory. They should have won at least 3-0.We still need Pathan to fire. And another pace bowler to give the bowling attack the options to choose from. What about the West Indies. Lara looks to have reached the end of his career. Well almost there.
Hopefully we will have a better next season of test cricket with more victories.

Good Work Team India & Kudos Gentleman Lara
by Ramesh on Jul 03, 2006 11:55 AM

Good work team India.

One more thing which we should not fail to appreciate is the fact that Lara, like Gilchrist and many times like Tendulkar, does not hesitate to walk off the crease when he knows that he is caught off with a Leg before the wicket. He does not bother to wait for the umpire to decide on this. This is a mark of a true gentleman and great character.

It was a great team work by India this time.

Is it time for celebration or introspection?
by Anand on Jul 03, 2006 11:45 AM

It is good that India won the test series and ended a 35 year drought in the Carribean. But is it really cause for celebration or is it time to do some introspection?? The current WI team is only a shade better than Zimbabwe and Bangladesh and India actually struggled to win the series. Some may claim that they were unlucky in the first two tests, but I dont believe in such factors. If they saw weather was intervening they ought to have planned better and declared earlier. In the last test match, but for Dravid, no one managed to score. The shame of the ODI series defeat will still remain. If anyone thinks it is a bad luck or something please think again. In the last 4 years India is the only team WI has managed to beat in an ODI series (other than Zimbabwe and Bangladesh). Also, World cup 2007 is going to be played here. If our batsmen cannot face WI bowlers in these pitches I see no prospect in 2007 world cup. Too many weaknesses seem to be exposed. If the Indians dont pull up their sox soon they are heading for deep trouble.

Well Done, but...
by Sudeep on Jul 03, 2006 11:20 AM

After the defeat in the one-day series, this test series win over West Indies is really quite a feat. Though India dominated in the test series for the earlier matches, after the first innings in this test it seemed to be going the West Indies way. Thanks to our bowlers and some resistance by our batsmen, India finally managed a win.
Though I don't want to undermine his contribution, I find it rather surprising that the man of the match award went to Dravid. Not that he didn't have a role to play but the bowlers did a fantastic job. It could have atleast been shared.

Regarding the Analysis.
by prabhu on Jul 03, 2006 09:56 AM

Mr Prem,

Your analysis of the last day of the 4th test has left us bewildered. Your article is more focussed on showing off your english skills rather than conveying your analysis in a simple and stark way. I have read better articles from you in the past. Please dont overdo the analysis which will make us impatient for getting actually as to what has happened in the match. I hope you understand.

Dravid leads India to series win
by labrea on Jul 03, 2006 08:33 AM

OK, so India won and celebrations are in order, but not because of playing well, but because of the West Indies batting line, with few exceptions, playing so terribly. Then again, that's the way the cookie crumbles. Till next time, then.
