Look like this is a place to play and improve your records
by Bob on Jan 17, 2006 01:12 AM

Every player would now want to go and bat to improve their records unlike our SCARRY ganguly ( who was refusing to go in and batch. This says how good he is in inspecting the pitch to know what kind of a pitch it is). Let us all pray to give Ganguly ( The so called bengal tiger ) to be given SOME courage to face fast bowlers and play some good cricket. Scary man . Shame on you. Learn from Irfan Pthan who was ready to go in and open/(one down) and bat knowing that he is just a bowler. Now he bats marvelously than many of the top order batsman. He has the style and potential. Good job Irfan. Sehwag and Dravid...Congrats for you both too for playing such a wonderful innings in spite of some scary men who GOT INTO THE TEAM BY INFLUENCE. Shame on them. Lets us hope that the scary men play well and make their supporters(You too are one support Mr.Panikar) happy and the team proud. If he looses this chance, his career on Cricket is over. He may have to survive on the RESTAURANT business he had developed during those good old days.

Hariharan Balakrishnan
Sehwag-Dravid tandem
by Hariharan Balakrishnan on Jan 16, 2006 11:36 PM

An excellent, balanced and yet, emotional report. Congrats to the reporter.
I remember the Pankaj Roy-Vinoo Mankad record. A couple of days ago, The Hindu carried a report of 50 years ago in its "This Day That Age" column. The President of BCCI of those days, Vizzy, got a resolution to encase the ball and a stump of that India-New Zealand match in silver to be presented to the duo. Let's see what the present Board does, if that record is broken tomorrow.
Keep your fingers crossed.

This is a day to remember
by mukul on Jan 16, 2006 11:22 PM

Never have I seen in my life something that surprised me as much as this scoreboard of Indian Innings.

Nothing.

We have surely won tough matches before, and we surely wont this one. But the guy got it just right. It's a moment for facing loss of words and gaining immense pride and respect for my team and the love/hate we bestow it. This may have meant less to me if the Australians had the scoreboard India has today, but then they are a different class.

Today, I can't help imagine if this neophyte Indian squad under Chappell becomes what he wants, what a contest it would be like between Australia & India sometime later...

The performances from the opening pair? What do I say..

Let's talk about Dravid...we know Sehwag, I knew him the day he scored the 300 against Pakistan, he aint no (rather long) flash in the pan, gem he is.

Could Ganguly have done what Dravid did, open with Sehwag and hunt down 700 runs? And think, Dravid is middle order chap. I doubt.

Its a redemption for the new team, particularly Dravid.

Hats Off for doing it in Pakistan, against Pakistan.

All the reasons I'll keep watching cricket with the zest that almost disappeared after events post the world c
