Undoubtedly Ponting is the man who can break Sachin's test record in highest centuries. As per the statistics, the following points are true to the best of my knowledge.
1. Ponting is younger than sachin and he can play more matches definitely than sachin in the future.
2. Ponting is almost nearer to Sachin in Test Centuries and he is in such a form that he can equal Sachin's test record in Centuries by the next two years.
3. So, there are lots of chances that Ponting can easily beat Sachin's test record in Highest Centuries until and unless Sachin show his old charishma again.
Ricky Ponting and Mathew Hayden belongs to that category of batsmen, who scores runs only in their peak period of their career. But LEGENDS like Sachin, Lara, etc. scores throughout their career. So we can conclude clearly that Ponting & Hayden are nearing their end of their career and can't overtake our master blaster in any way.
I don't think that Sachin most century's record would be broken by Ricky or any other batsman, in this era.
I would like to draw your attention towards the fact that during last 05 years, Sachin has gone out for 02 years almost, due to his serious Elbow injury, even then he made 11 century, and dont forget the pressure which Sachin taking over the years. Also, it's not always easy to make come back after such an serious injury.
I personally wish him all the very best, to make atleast 50 century in both form of the game.

Now its betwen Sachin and Ricky... i dont think its possible for sachin to reach fifty 100's...its quite difficult. coz once he was a run machine, but now he failed to do certain things.. first lets see whether he can able to cross fourty 100's... the way Ponting play is amazing... In the meanwhile we shud not remember anothet guy(Hayden)..In the last five years he has scored 25 100's... can u imagine?????? so according to me Sachin has to be rested(he shud annouce his retirement) after the 2007 worldcup.... why dont we give chance for youngsters yaar... there are lots of sachin in India...why dont we give them a chance.... we shud not think about the records....we shud keep out team in the mind.... So the selection committee shud think positive. i am not opposing sachin.. he is genious...But still...no other go..
