Time to tell Ganguly goodbye

This is Mumbai coterie talking. Mr Wadekar, you are talking about a person who scored more runs than you and even in next three years can score more runs than you scored in your life time.
Ganguly represents Dalmia for you and you are trying to take what you could not get during his time. Why did you not speak when Ganguly was selected ?
What you say about Rahul, Sourabh did that for Tendulkar in Australia. Just do not forget that.

Dear Sumit,
I really regret for the knowledge you have regarding Wadekar's batting. I do not know whether you have seen Wadekar in action. He was a lefty as Sourav is. He had been the Captain of India and was the first captain of India who had led India to consecutive two series win overseas first in the West Indies and subsequently in England. If you compare Ganguly with wadekar in technique, every body who has seen Wadekar and Ganguly would admit that he was a perfect technical batsman, a wristy batsman and far better than the technique Ganguly has. I can give you an example. During a match in the year 1974 against England in Delhi Wadekar made a brilliant straight drive to the bowler, commentator asked Lala Amarnath the Great Cricker himself to describe the shot. Lala explained that it was a brilliant shot a wristy shot. The commentator who had no knowledge of Cricket said Yes lalaji it was a risky shot Wadekar should not have hit it like this. Lal amended him saying Commentator sahib I have mentioned it is a wristy short and not risky short, one of the best shots a player can play. Such a player definitely cannot be compared. I hope you would have your mind changed

Wadekar the greatest sportsman
by BHARAT SATISH TALWAR on Feb 20, 2006 05:10 PM

Dear Ajit,

I fully support your views regarding Ganguly. He should himself quit now rather than the board asking him the door. He should remember that it is a gentleman's game. In our times, if a player used to smell that he is not wanted, or he thought he was not in form, he would himself call it a day. It is really disgusting that Ganguly virtually begged Pawar to be included in the team and the result is now that he has earned a bad name from every body, but still he seems to be shameless.

I am addressing this note to you Ajit as I cannot forget your kindness and sportsmanship. The incident if is of the year 1961 when you came to calcutta to participate in the NDF match being played there to raise fund for National Defence. The rivals teams were led by Lala Amarnath & Mustaque Ali. At the end of the game, I was at that time a teenager and some how I managed to enter into players lobby and asked for the autography from Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi who ignored me. You were witnessing the incident. You voluntarily called me and gave me your autograph, which I am stil preserving with me after 43 years. HOWZZATT! Good wishes

I think Wadekar has a valid point. I do not think Ganguly has a place in the one day team. We have enough youngsters knocking at the door for his spot.

In the tests, I think he should be given some more chances as I think there is still some cricket left in him. But the problem is that Yuvraj who is currently in great form will have to be sacrificed. So it is going to be a tricky situation for the selectors and the team management.

But whatever the situation, I think the board should handle it sensitively and if they think Ganguly does not fit in the scheme of things, then they inform him and give him a farewell he deserves for all the services rendered for the country.

Hi,

seems like Wadekar is out of his mind. He is speaking as if Ganguly had asked his advise on the latters retirement plans. It should be understood that neither me nor a cricket fan and not Wadekar himself force a decision on Ganguly. If Ganguly wants to play then he should perform. Thats the only way to prove.

Ganguly has been treated very badly. He has scored more than 10,000 runs in ODIs. He has been the best captain we had ever had. He should be shown due respect and allowed to play in tests as well as in ODIs as long as he deems fit.

We should not show disregard to our heroes.

not if he proves himself in ranji cricket
by rayker on Feb 20, 2006 03:46 PM

if sourav has the juice in him, he should still be able to come into the team. or let the team management decide fairly to him if he deserves a place. he should be able to easily better kaif - who in his current form looks bad. but then there's raina, munaf patel, sreesanth, nad many more youngsters who need to be included. only way out for saurav is to redeem himself with some big scores in ranji!

Clear !!!!!!!

Ganguly himself should have realised this long before and gracefully stepped down from captaincy to concentrate on his batting. Now, if he is considered also, that may be in test match only, not in one-day game.
