WHY?
by an on Feb 21, 2006 08:55 AM

I dont understand the purpose of Wadekar's statement about Ganguly and his selection in tests, when the test series with england is just round the corner...
I dint expect this from a person of his position..

And why is he trying to compare about Inzi's and Dravid's battin position .. ??
dravid came down the order in the first one day too & it doesn't mean squat.!!!!

Talking of England's attitude
by Avin on Feb 21, 2006 08:49 AM

I find it surprising that Wadekar thinks a 10-12 record for England is bad. I consider it a very good record. Coming from a team which has yet to win a single test match in South Africa and repeatedly loses to New Zealand in New Zealand, it is not appropriate. If England has won just 5 tests in India and lost 15 , then it can said to be a case of bad attitdue. But if a 10-12 win loss (1:1.2) ratio is attributed to bad attitude, then I pray that India absorb some of the bad attitude when touring South Africa, New Zealand and Austraila.

Time to tell good bye to Ganguly
by Pitke on Feb 20, 2006 11:07 PM

I hope our bengali friends do not come to Worli and bay for Ajit Wadekar's blood for this comment. :-) Ganguly has done good services to the Indian cricket but seriously, it is time he left. There is no way he can be accomodated in ODI team and I personally never thought he was a test batsman. Ganguly himself is responsible for whatever is happening with him these days. When he was captain, he always depended on his past and never paid any attention to improving his own game. He always thought he is a sure shot selection in the team till eternity. Chappell changed everything though.

Ganguly still a good bet
by Supreo on Feb 20, 2006 09:02 PM

I agree that Sourav probably doesn't fit the team that much now (and more so after the one day victory over Pak) but I do feel that he be left to get down to just cricket. Let him play domestic cricket, and if he's consistant then he can be back. And I do feel, he must still be someone to turn to if there's a need. We all have seen Balaji, Akash Chopra, S S Das and the likes go down after a year. Let the RP Sings and Sreesanths prove over the year (yes do give them a chance, but dont keep the banter of - young only) sourav, after all, is one of the best captains and an elegant left-hander in India. He's handy both with the bat and the ball, but a tad lower in the fielding dept (aka the Zaheer Khans and Kumbles). Let him time...

Mr Ganguli must surrender and stop damaging Indian cricket.
by Rajiv on Feb 20, 2006 08:24 PM

I hope Mr Ganguli stops threatening Indian cricket by his return to team - because of political pressures.
Mr Gangu has done lot of damage to Indian cricket in last 2 years -- its time for him to give up.

Time to tell Ganguly goodbye
by shankar on Feb 20, 2006 06:12 PM

I have read the article written by Wadekar. He does not possess any quality of commenting about a player like Ganguly. Nobody will forget that day, when, under Wadekar's captaincy, India were all out for just 42 runs against England. What can't he shut his dirty mouth??

This is Mumbai coterie talking. Mr Wadekar, you are talking about a person who scored more runs than you and even in next three years can score more runs than you scored in your life time.
Ganguly represents Dalmia for you and you are trying to take what you could not get during his time. Why did you not speak when Ganguly was selected ?
What you say about Rahul, Sourabh did that for Tendulkar in Australia. Just do not forget that.

Dear Sumit,
I really regret for the knowledge you have regarding Wadekar's batting. I do not know whether you have seen Wadekar in action. He was a lefty as Sourav is. He had been the Captain of India and was the first captain of India who had led India to consecutive two series win overseas first in the West Indies and subsequently in England. If you compare Ganguly with wadekar in technique, every body who has seen Wadekar and Ganguly would admit that he was a perfect technical batsman, a wristy batsman and far better than the technique Ganguly has. I can give you an example. During a match in the year 1974 against England in Delhi Wadekar made a brilliant straight drive to the bowler, commentator asked Lala Amarnath the Great Cricker himself to describe the shot. Lala explained that it was a brilliant shot a wristy shot. The commentator who had no knowledge of Cricket said Yes lalaji it was a risky shot Wadekar should not have hit it like this. Lal amended him saying Commentator sahib I have mentioned it is a wristy short and not risky short, one of the best shots a player can play. Such a player definitely cannot be compared. I hope you would have your mind changed
