Indian team has feet of clay
by debanshu sengupta on Feb 02, 2006 04:05 PM

The Indian team was beaten by 341 runs by Pakistan in the 3rd test at karachi yesterday. The media (print as well as electronic)is doing lot of analysis about the match. But as far as am concerned my match ka mujrim is none other than MR.GREG CHAPELL.I will try to prove my allegation and hope you all will agree as well. Our team boasts of one of the finest bating lineup in the world dravid,Tendulkar,Sehwag,Ganguly,Laxman do these people really require a coach that too so highly paid? If yes than Mr.Chappel may I ask what you have done about the gap between bat & pad of sehwag and laxman, was it not your duty as a coach to rectify the same if at all u noticed it offcourse. secondly on the third evening our great coach remarked there is no seam or swing in the pitch than how come Asif and Razzak swinged the ball? Mr.Chapell your comment creates doubt abt ur pitch reading ability too. Thirdly to score 607 in the last innings for victory is next to impossible never happened in history of cricket, our aim shld have been to go for a draw and save the humiliation of series defeat.why our batsmen were playing strokes were they under instruction to chase 607 as a coach why did u not stop them

sachin- time for introspection
by Kaushik Mitra on Feb 02, 2006 03:53 PM

Its time Sachin did a bit of introspection on his current cricketing abilities. He seems like a novice playing with the big boys. bad foot work, gettng hit on the helmet, walking off when he didn't touch the ball, exaggerated bend over after being dismayed, hesitant about going back or whether to play forward. If Ganguly can get the flak inspite of being the second best performer in the Karachi test from the Indian batting line up, and then sent home for the 1 days, its time Sachin put up his hand and either performs or does some introspection and sits out. You cant have a place in the team purely on past records. Current statistics over the last 12-18 months is dismal to say the least.

whome to blame
by Krishnan on Feb 02, 2006 03:50 PM

U have to blame the batsmen and bowlers both for the defeat. Batsmen idnt bat with application, bowlers didnt bowl to a proper plan

Indian Team has feet of clay

Sir,
This is very surprising why Ajit Agarkar was kept out and Ganguly was made in instead of Harbhajan. This is a bad move. Apart from this omission of Mohd Kaif for Ganguly itself a blunder. Blaming Tendulkar who is playing definitely positive by confident start of 25 or so in both innings with greater speed and getting out cannot be said to be out of form. If that is the case it happens in each and every individual's case. Virender Shewag plays a double hundred in one test and remains plop for the remaining tour is also a very serious concern. His foot work is nil and when the day strikes he scores. His scoring runs is almost uncertain. look at the foot work of Tendulkar. His rythem is right and shot making was fine but unfortunate. Even elders like Gavaskar are now keeping mum about Tendulkar. There is no technical fault in his batting nor his fielding standards have comedown. The defeat more or less be fit to attribute it to bowlers failure in the second innings perhaps our Indian Selectors may not agree with this because their wisdom is somewhat strange. If cricket is really a 11 man game then axing Tendulkar by merely attributing defeat to his credit is meaning less.

Give youngsters a chance.
by Karthik on Feb 02, 2006 03:38 PM

It is time that we give chance to some youngsters like venugopal rao and suresh raina. If tomorrow our three senior players like Dravid,Tendulkar and Ganguly retire then who will come in to the Indian team.We know that for one place Kaif is there but the other two places are empty.I don't say give them chance immediately take them for test matches and if somebody does not perform show them the players sitting in the reserves. This would make them perform really well.

Team India!!!
by Mohit Kumar Singh on Feb 02, 2006 03:21 PM

I think that this should come as a wake up call for all the Cricket Mandarins and we should look inward and reform our system than making Demi Gods/Scape goats of the present players.
The fact is that there is no Team India!!!
It is a collection of superstars who are there in the middle for their own glory and not for the Team or the Country. And i do not blame them as our system is divided on statewise representation and more often than not the selection is based on which state you come from or which lobby you belong to and Talent and merit takes a back seat.
I do not know whether others have noticed or not but after every succesfull outing our players seem so relieved for having achieved the landmark it seems for themselves and their own betterment and not for the Team or the Country!!!!

Hence unless we reform our system to work on merit without any pulls and push or sifarish/Clout coming in the way of selections we will continue to be humiliated like this inspite of having loads of talent.

Also Pitches in India need to be of International Standards thus preparing our stars for what lies abroad.
