When you Bat, No one is worried about the remote
by Nelson D\'souza on Aug 30, 2006 10:52 AM

Sachin
When you bat, no one is worried about the remote or what is being played on other channel. You hypnotise us by you grace. They say Sachin is only second to Bradman. My bet is that if the great Bradman was to play in your era, that to in somany countries, his average would not be as good as yours. All i can say is, there are few great players in the world. And then above them there is Sachin Tendulkar.

Hello Mr.Amit,
cannot disagree more with you. Is it the popular vogue to say " when we enjoyed our youth, sachin practised and practised and practised" sacrificing his youth. No!!! all of us have had our share of trials in our own field. Only thing is, we are not glorified as much as sachin is or, for that matter, any other cricketer is. you cannot ask me "how much have you done for your country".if you think playing cricket is a great service to the country, nobody is more foolish. Ask him to play cricket for the salary a scientist gets, can you? Does that mean he does more work than a scientist?
I am asking you again. how does my identity matter to you? you are interested in my argument, aren't you and not me?? If I told you that my name is Srivathsan and I am doing my PhD in Mechanical Engg etc etc and I have been watching cricket since I was
a kid etc, will that change my argument..
The fact remains that we love to deify our cricketers..

HI Mr.Sampath,
you are probably not correct on both counts. paying in lakhs is peanuts for how much he is earning. One need not donate lakhs during some disaster or war time. The tax that is levied is used by the government for the people..That is why they are levied, aren't they? Many rich people do much more than what sachin has done and still don't refuse to pay taxes. Are we willing to just accept whatever he does?
Coming to the second part, during that particular innings, messages were sent out ( as John Wright himself wrote) when Sachin was at 170 or so, to speed up and the decision was purely Dravid's. The fellow was really "ambling". The point I am trying to make is "Are we willing to accept his 200 more than an Indian victory"?

I totally agree with Mr.Sampat because not only Sachin has brought glory to the entire nation, he has brought glory to the game of cricket.
With due respect to this gentleman, who is hiding his name and identity, can he tell us how many sports persons in India have brought glory to the entire nation? And how many of them have had to bear the pressure of the entire nation when they walk on the field? So you should understand that at such a young age, when everybody(including me and you and all others) dream of enjoying their youth life, this icon in the form of Sachin had to understand that the entire nation is behind him at all the time to perform on the cricket field. To carry that pressure and to balance his play and family simultaneously is no joke.In this context, it is not the fault of Sachin to raise the voice, but it is the fault of the Authorities and the Government who have not given him the relaxation of paying the duties on the Car which is gifted to him in recognition of his achievement. So, Mr.Silent, before making comments on this great icon of the country, think what you yourself had done if you were in his place? Is this the recognition for his duties in India?

Hello Mr.Sampath,
first of all, I am pleased to see a gentle response without any expletives. Thank you for that..
Sachin Tendulkar----- He is a batsman I admire for his batting skills, I love watching him bat... Thats all.
What I am against is the hero-worship, the deifying of an individual. That will lead us to believe that he has no weaknesses and he is a gentleman on and off the field.
Did he not voice out his protest when Rahul Dravid declared(when he was ambling without purpose towards an useless 200)? Now, is this not "on-field" nonsense?
Was he not unhappy about having to pay taxes for a gifted car? Why? Is he a God or something?
No where else in the world will such behavior be accepted as gentlemanly on and off the field..
Again, my name doesn't matter to you or anybody, does it? what if my name was s or srivathsan?

Hi Mr. Srivathsan,

Imagine urself in place of Sachin. Then u will understand
how it feels to pay tax (IN Lacs...which comes to almost
the price of the car!!!).will u enjoy paying that much tax for
a gifted car.If u buy it then it is a different thing...
If i remember correctly Sachin donated more than 50 Lakhs at the time
of Kargil war.How much people do such things who r rich.
Coming to declaration part...any captain would have given
any batsman in the world another 2 overs to score a double century
which was affordable as Sehwag & Sachin scored runs quickely.
How much balls Sachin could have taken for 6 runs?? 6 balls ???8 Balls??
12 Balls Max???? Come on yaar ...its double hundred ..not single one.
Any Captain would have allowed any batsman atleast another 12 balls to
score that. Was Dravid jealous or he was just following the
instructions from Sourav who was sitting behind & giving instruction
to dravid is a secret? This kind of things only helps to devolop differences among
the team members. But Sachin is so great that he left behind this matter &
continued playing for the team & maintains good relationship with dravid.
This shows his greatness. If such thing happens in pakistan team then
definitely there would have been fractions in the team.Isn\\\\\\\'t it Mr.s???
