ICC is a hopelessly incompetent body.
by Balaji K on Aug 30, 2006 08:10 AM

Both sides to the party of the Oval Test fiasco handled it wrong. The Pakistan team should have refused to play with the changed ball.To play for sometime with the changed ball and then refuse to come out after the tea break was bad tactics.Having played with the changed ball,Pakistan should have made it clear they were playing under protest.
Darrel Hair possibly knows the rules very well, but he is an abrasive character, which disqualifies him as an umpire.I dont think he took any real effort to restart the game.Cricket is played with a lot of passion, the umpire should be a cool head, someone who can keep things going, something Hair was incapable of.
Billy Doctrove was the umpire who was the cause of the Dhoni catch controversy. He gave Hooper a second innings in the India Windies Barbados Test in 2002 and changed the course of that series. He has showed himself to be remarkably inept. But he is an international umpire.
Finally to the ICC.During every controversy, it has shown itself to be lacking firmness, except where the subcontinental teams are involved. It deliberately appoints umpires with whom the subcontinental teams have problems,Hair for Pak&SL,Bucknor for India.

Ball tampering
by Mehran on Aug 29, 2006 11:15 PM

i completely sympathise with the pakistan team for what happen'd with them in the oval test. But there are few friends here blaming the pakistan team for ball tampering as they have a bad track record of ball tampering in the past and are favoring to ban pakistan team from playing future cricket. But lemme remind em'..folks players from pakistan are not the only one involved in ball tampering in the past..teams like australia, south africa and great players like sachin tendulkar and dravid from indian team..but that doesnt mean that the whole indian cricket is to be blamed for their actions in the past. It was a history..lets leave it behind n leave in the present. so all my friends blaming pakistan cricket team for their bad history of ball tampering ...narrow ur minds, think neutral and make sure u knw the facts b4 u make n e comments...

2001: In a South Africa vs. India test match, India's Sachin Tendulkar was found guilty of ''working on the ball.'' He was suspended by match referee Mike Denness and fined 75 percent of his match fee.

2004: India's Rahul Dravid was fined half his match fee for inte

See, all dispute/contravery had in his career are against subcontinents. This shows his negative approach towards the subcontinents. In this particular case, he takes decision and now withdrawing by asking a big amount as a compensation of his retirement. This prove that he involve in racits.

cricket is a religion
by dhananjayan on Aug 29, 2006 06:11 PM

Cricket is not just a game for the people in subcontinent it is a religion and any question on the fairness of the game cant be tollerated.
I believe same emotions prevailed in the pakistani players on that day when Darell Hair chose to change the ball for ball tampering reasons.

We Indians are with you Inzy because we know what is this game means to us.Its been proven after that episode since Hair wanted to be compensated its a clear indication that they just do it for money but when we play our country comes first.Let us move forward and send out people like Hair out of Elite panel.

Cricket Crisis
by Sarfaraz Ali Khan on Aug 29, 2006 05:47 PM

I would say that the Umpire Darrell Hair is wrong in his attitude. Because he could have handled the situation much much better.

1.He could have gone to Inzamam and said that I suspect that something wierd is happening to the ball.
Could you stop it before it goes out of hand.

2.He could have told Inzamam that the ball has been tampered with and that he would like to penalise him

3.He could have gone to the Match Referee Mike Procter and lodged a complaint about the issue.

One thing about Inzamam is that he could have started the protest then and there (When Hair changed the ball and penalised Pakistan for 5 runs).

I would definitely support Inzamam_ul_Haq on this Issue
a. Because there is no evidence of ball tampering and
b. he was not informed about the ball tampering on the fourth day of the fourth test.

MY full support is for Inzamam_ul_Haq.

Was Pakistan dissent justified?

Everybody knows Inzy's English- he would have said something which no English knowing person could understand- A pakistani Uudu comment from Inzy's would have been heard as English by Hair- Hair fumed and Inzy had to commit another blunder by talking in real chaste(!) English and the matter has to come to this level- in future- in addition to camps, let the Boards of varuious counrties conduct a English speaking course for captain, preferably for Pakistan and Bangla desh team. Nagesh.
