Why brag about this so much?
by Vasanth on Sep 18, 2005 10:48 PM

I would be among the first to accept that Sourav has indeed been a controversy in Indian Cricket for a long time now. But it's the media and reporters who have given this so called "rift" between Ganguly and Chappell so much attention and hype. What ever Ganguly told about Chappell asking to step down remains said. Why is there so much fake interest generated by the media about this issue.
I think more than the captain and the coach, it's the media which has blown this issue out of proportions. If only they had stopped with one column about this issuse, i think by now things would have come to a conclusion. But the media adding so much non-sensical statements into a personal issue between a captian and a coach is not going to help anyone!!
So please dont try to jump into conclusions on some statement Ganguly made and leave it to the Board to settle the issue and stop giving insights and views on the issue!
Thank you!

Ganguly & Chappel
by B Jain on Sep 18, 2005 09:50 PM

Media has got a hot cake issue. Well I first accept that Ganguly is not at his top form. But statistically he is mot successful captain. But he also been critisized most ALWAYS. When he was his best critisism was less - but never stopped. Now every one has got his pen to write against him. Second, we're believing Mr Chappel most. May be he understood that with Indian selection policy and team he cannot show-up whatever he dreams. And he is talking different way. Why should he will suggest a captain like that when selection comitte believes him? Mr Chappel should write his suggestion to comitte before selection and after a series. This is disgusting...

Chappell's right in trying to get ganguly expelled.
Ganguly cannot claim his place in the squad if the only teams he can play against are Zimbabwe Kenya or Bangladesh. Why doesnt he quote his performance against Australia new zealand or pakistan in recent times to show he's doing well.

Face it...Ganguly has forgotten how to bat...he's become a official jester of the team....he's dloopy with his fielding & the list just goes on....I bet there are many batsmen in the junior teams who can replace him...As far as a skipper goes ...Dravid is a good replacement.

Ganguly has always managed to whine like a kid loudly whenever his job is on the line. Perhaps thats what he's good at!

Chappel will do yeoman service to Indian cricket, if he gives the message to team that nobody is larger than life size.At the end of the day your peformance matters not your connections not your manipulating abilities or P.R. work with the help of your sponsers

Ganguly,Chappell rift widens

This is exactly what happens when you have sportsmen who have larger than life image..They forget the basics, and involve themselves in petty politics, they not only spoil themselves, but corrupt the environment around them.In a way sports administration, in this case obviously BCCI is responsible for this embarassing situation which has occured in Indian cricket. BCCI should know that they cannot treat members in the same team differently..zones/ regions/so called popularity of a few players does not matter,it is the team--Indian team which represents this country abroad in International arena which matters..Whoever breaks the code of conduct should be dealt with absolutely strictly, and should be asked to leave the team..Otherwise this country becomes a laughing stock in front of the world.Ganguly may have been a successful captain in the past, but today he has exposed himself, and in no way has the right to continue as a captain. he arrives late for something so important like when the team was leaving for Zimbabwe..Why was he not reprimanded or punished for this indiscipline? why doesn't anyone question him? What is the cricket board's ultimate objective?

What is the Board doing???
by Sundarraman.S on Sep 18, 2005 03:20 PM

How can a Coach decide the captain and that to just ahead of a test match?
Then, how can a Captain make an issue out of it, by going public?
The board should do something to put an end to this ugly episode !

Sundar, Chennai.

The Great Divide....
by Vivek Bahadur on Sep 18, 2005 02:29 PM

The Cat is Out of the Bag and the Big Question now is Who will Bell it !
Undoubtedly,it is the Nations Interest which is First & Foremost and it is for the Board / Mediators to bring both these known Head Strong Men to work out a consensus in the Interest of the Nation rather than take flights in different directions !
Even though it was not a Bad suggestion to ask Ganguly to Step down and let Dravid lead the Team giving In Form Kaif the chance to play ,it would have been appreciated had Ganguly himself agreed to step down( sit out )and tell the World that he is "Unfit"( medically - not literally !)
Involving political bigwigs(read Mr.Dalmiya)to solve the crisis has been prevalent in the past and invariably it has been the Team and the Spirit of the Game which has suffered.
If the Coach feels that a player is not contributing his bit,he should be empowered to make changes for Improvement rather than be criticised & questioned.Seniors must join their heads and hands together to work out the best Answer to this Question so as to Bridge the Rift between two stalwarts of the Game !
Let Truth and Justice Win.....

Is Chappel a racist?
by D.Datta on Sep 18, 2005 01:47 PM

After reading what really happened, I am surprised that some of you are trying to blame Ganguly.

If Ganguly has committed a mistake by making he facts public, one has also to realize how much humiliation it was for him when asked to step down by the foreign coach.
His repeated questions to the coach about whether he was serious and his attempt to pack up shows that he was shocked.

Those of you who are questioning the timing of Gangulys statement , just think of the timing of the act by Greg Chappel .
The Indian team acts like a cohesive unit under Ganguly and when one or the other is dropped in a given match it never becomes an issue. I think Chappels behavior can be really detrimental to the team spirit and can create a lot of confusion.

A Captain is selected for the entire series and no one has ever heard of a Captain being asked to step down for a better composition of the team. In my mind it is racism of some form.

Just imagine if Greg Chappel were the coach of the England team would he dare do this to a off form English Captain? Perhaps he thinks he can treat the Indians the way he wants to.

However, we all know that Ganguly is different. He is upright and aggressive and has the kind of self respect that he can challenge even the foreigners who think they are superior. That is why he is the most successful Captain that India has ever produced.

Someone like Ganguly just refuses to be humiliated in an unjust manner and we Indians should be proud of him.
