by Anuj Kumbhat on Nov 29, 2005 05:03 PM

But for the unsupporting and unsporting fans in Kolkata, we could have done better in Kolkata too.

Dear Kolkatans, Pls understand that you are Indians first and Bongs later.

Sachin Vs Ganguly ( both getting out on low scores)
by Prasannaa Ganesan on Nov 29, 2005 03:13 PM

Please keep in mind that this blog is not to compare the talents of the two or to even compare the contributions of the two to this Indian team. Sachin is the King and Ganguly is the Prince.. no doubts about this and I am sure you all would also accept the fact.

I am trying to draw a comparison on how the media react to cheap dismissals of the two greatest ODI batsmen India has had. (If this was quite a while ago , I would have rephrased the stmt above to "two of the greatest ODI batsmen Cricket ever had").

Sachin gets out on a very low score, most writers write like this " He was out to an unplayable delivery, it was an unbelievable catch that saw Sachin walk back and so on..."
on the other hand if Ganguly gets out to such low scores all they have to say is "The bowler had helped ganguly to get rid of his suffering, ganguly gone for a duck not knowing how to duck himself under a short ball" . Right a short ball for him becomes an unplayable delivery like that of an incutter that Sachin still finds it difficult to play or even a wide delivery that he invariably glides it to the men behind the wickets. A lateral movement is unplayabe while a steep bounce is not.. Is this fair?

Indian have again proved that we are unbeatable in beating other teams unbeatable records. We have beaten Aussies unbeatable recored in test cricket and now we have done it against SA in One Day.

Kudos to the team for levelling the Series. But Indian Team should stop meddling the change of order.Meddling will not help in preparation for world cup.

This fellow must be from Bengal and julous of Dravid and Greg. Both have done wonderful job. Dravid played captains knocks. Ganguly was good captain but now he is finished. He does not have any technic.

What a joke..
by Manish on Nov 29, 2005 11:09 AM  | Hide replies

This whole series was a joke! The team winning the toss wins the match, since greg has come in..he's done no good for the team, trying out the most stupid tactics..which worked only against opposition who were out of form.

Greg, Dravid PROCLAIMS..'WE ARE PREPARING FOR THE WORLD CUP', God save them, a slight green pitch had them all running for cover. Wonder what will happen in West Indies..hope it is not a big joke there.

And "WE'VE BROUGHT IN YOUNG BLOOD TO THE TEAM", greg enough of politics. I think RP Singh was the only guy who was new into the team. And he doesn't compare at all with ZAHEER who've u've so politically left out.

And Greg please do not boast about the SA conquest, the matches were all decided on the toss of a coin.

Are you serious manish or is it a joke?Do you hail from calcutta?(oh!!!! sorry kolkata). We indians give somebody like ganguly too much of time without any proper thinking(i.e dalmia has given him). Now let us give sometime for rahul and greg before coming to conclusions. If you are replying to this mail don't sing that old song:

stanza1:
ganguly built indian team (chorus kolkatan's)
ganguly built indian cricket
ganguly built indian morale
ganguly built everything

(but not himself).

Sreesanth is 19. Suresh Raina is 19. Both have played well. Yuvraj has improved so has Dhoni. You can see all this with your naked eyes unless you choose to keep them closed. Zaheer was a victim of his own device not Mr. Greg's politics.

Wat was India's plan for yesterday's match?
by Dinesh on Nov 29, 2005 09:26 AM

I really don't understand the stratergy for yesterday's match. What was the team management's plan when they gave Murali Karthik the last over, when he had already gone for a lot of runs in his previous overs.

It doesn't make any sense to deprive Pathan, who has done so well to get three wickets by giving just 20 runs in his 8 overs, his full quota of 10 overs. It would have been better had him completed the innings, and it would have been fitting, had been given another chance at the South African tail. Who knows he might have even finished with a five wicket haul, and we might have even had a total much lower than 222 to chase.

Kudos to India on its fine victory over South Africa
by Dr.A.Jagadeesh on Nov 29, 2005 08:27 AM  | Hide replies

Dear Rediff:

India under the leadership of Rahul Dravid did well to level the series against formidable South Africa. The Final saw some blazing performance from Mr. DEPENDABLE Rahul Dravid. This is not the first occasion Rahul Dravid fought to win the test. He is ably supported by Yuvaraj Singh, Pathan and Harbhajan Singh also played their role in India's victory. After initial debacles against South Africa, India raced back to square the series.Mr.Saurav Ganguly should learn a lesson from Rahul Dravid in facing crisis and coming out victorious. The Young team with players like Yuvaraj Singh, Kaif, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag and others have time and again confirmed that they can deliver goods. It is time that POLITICS in cricket are dispensed with and COUNTRY'S PRIDE is paramount than the INDIVIDUAL selection in Tests. Players like Saurav Ganguly should follow the advice of late great batsman Vijay Merchant," A Cricketer should quit when people start saying WHY rather than WHY NOT. Kudos to Indian team led by the great Rahul Dravid.

Now what about the failure of the heavy weights?
by Omkar Patki on Dec 03, 2005 10:11 PM
What's wrong with the doctors? Earlier there was Dr.
S.Mandal who was talking nonsense and now this Dr. Nitin! You are asking to use same yardstick for every player. Let me tell you Ganguly was not 'dropped'. He pulled out claiming tennis elbow. The fitness test was after the selection and therefore the Selectors could not consider him. I think as a doctor you possess this much sense that an unfit player should not play. And even though he is dropped as you are so hell bent on saying, he had been given enough chances before. If he failed to capitalize on them and struggled against a team like Zimbabwe who have lost count of their losses, still his exclusion is debated and if someone like Sachin or Dhoni fails in one series, there are people like you who cry for their heads to roll. This is not only unfair but outrightly ridiculous.

now what abt failures of heavy weights
by Dr Nitin J. Mehta on Nov 29, 2005 07:08 AM

Now what will b done? r v 2 keep out sachin, shewag, kaif, dhoni & others who have failed miserably against SA in ODI,as saurav has been dropped & treated? KEEP one yard stick,v all India fans have been carried away by the introduction of new bride Mr Chappel , as selectors and ex- cricketors, & critics r now on the wrong foot abt the number of runs sored by these in the eleven cannot be worth for World Cup 2007.Why Shewag was given a chance 2 come down and then also failed in Mumbai, & why not Ganguly likewise.Mr Chappel is playing politics, and what abt is alleged misbehaviour shown in 4 th ODI,Kolkatta. We r losing this sport also as this type of politicisation in selection of national teams have been reported.

Dravid leads India to Victory
by labrea on Nov 29, 2005 02:04 AM

What a see-saw series, especially the final win. One sometimes wonder whether any shennanigans such as match-fixing could even be at play here. It's almost too cute an ending: 2-2, one draw; series drawn. Call me cynical.

shame shame calcuttans.
by amit on Nov 29, 2005 12:31 AM

hi all the calcuttans,
The behaviour by the u people at the Eden Garden was shocking. It has surely disgraced the Indian face abroad. I m a die had fan of Ganguly for he played for the team. He was the one who brought glory to our team. Our team learned to win matches no matter what the situation was. He did not hesitated to fight for any player. And surely I am disappointed the way Ganguly has been treated. But I am more shocked at the behaviour of the Eden Garden crowd. No matter Ganguly is in the team or not but nation is first. But how could all you remember this. After all your background is Marxist who supported China at the invasion of India. Shame.....Shame.........Shame.......Go to hell.

Pathan's performance
by Pramod on Nov 29, 2005 12:10 AM

Hi Harish,
You seem to be a huge fan of Harbhajan singh and that is fine with me, but your article (though it does mention the exploits of Pathan) does not use the same adjectives (impressive, etc) for Pathan's performance. Are you sure that you are not biased?

Pramod
