Taskmaster????
by Mahi Reddy on May 25, 2005 10:50 AM

I think that if Greg Chappell approaches the team with a taskmaster approach, it probably isn't going to work out....

The team is primarily an aging veteran team and the younger players(Virender Sehwag) is a rising star who, in all likelihood, will not respond to overcoaching or micromanagement.

In order for a taskmaster-style disciplinarian style of coaching to work, Chappell has to have a veteran player, a leader that the entire team respects in order for his message to be heard...If the veterans don't respect him, the younger players will follow suit.

Indian players won't respond to a taskmaster because there isn't a taskmaster amongst any of them...None are disciplined in their approach off the field....Very few even utilize weight training(Maybe Dravid, but not Tendulkar or Ganguly or anyone else, for that matter)...It enhances the play in every single sport and this has been proven BENEFICIAL in every sport where players underwent resistance training protocols.

India cannot consistently challenge Australia because they are physically weaker, lacking in stamina, speed and power.

Why Controversy on Coach selection
by Prashant on May 25, 2005 09:57 AM

Congratulation to Greg Chappell. I think seeing the past record, if we judge this time we got right which will be proved only after seeing the result of the coming series. I wonder why we r giving other meaningless dimension like, why we r attaracted to west, racism and what all...
Why don't we accept the fact.
And now coming to Mr. Amarnath one of the most respected person of Indian Cricket. It is obvious that he will be disappointed, but as I read his column I can make, he is not disappointed with he not being not selected, but the way board's behavior. It is very irresponsible statement by BCCI president, Ranbir Singh Mahendra that they could'nt inform Mr.Amarnath and Mr. Haynes. Why Board people behave so cheap, why can't they respect people for their deads. I hope for them Money is everything. I request these peoples to change their attitude and show sportmen ship. I wish they read this coment. Hats off to Amarnath, Chappell and all Sports men with sportmenship. Cheers

Why are we so much attracted to westerner
by Anirudha on May 22, 2005 03:07 PM

When we have pull of intelligent cricters on Indian side, why do we need westerner to coach our team. Is it western attraction pulling us. Why not we give opportunity to Kapildeo, Sandeep Patil.

Chappel is the best
by srinivasan on May 22, 2005 10:40 AM

hi,

Greg Chappel is best choice for the coach. His shrewd mind and diverse international exposure could be the shot in the arm for Indian cricket. The other contenders for the post...well it was a big joke. A person who does not use a comp, a person who works for the education ministry of his country and a person who has hardly played any cricket..... well greg is way above any of them!!

It does'nt matter...!!!
by N.V.Krishna on May 21, 2005 10:14 PM

We all must accept that whatever inputs Greg might give to our players,it is what they do in the middle that counts. If the captain cannot exude confidence among players, does outrageous bowling changes and above all does'nt inspire the team by leading from the front.. by performing what can the coach do.....???Let us not get too carried away by Greg Chappell's appointment,Its what the selection commitee does with actual players who play for the country and above all who shall be the next captain is what matters..!!!

Greg Chappell an excellant choice.
by Viren.Kataria on May 21, 2005 08:57 PM

Dear All,
I would also agree on the comments made by past Indian cricketers and the Media regarding the selection of Mr.Greg.Chappell as a national coach.
Infact he has been around for a very long time in the fied of cricket and India also needed someone who would be mentally tough so as to handle extreme pressures in an fiercely fought matches. I feel he is the best choice not only becoz of the best prsentation he made during the selection procedure but he carries a vast amount of international exerience and techniques . Infact he is known to be getting along well with Saurav.Ganguly and S.Tendulkar apart form R.Dravid.
Let us all hope for a great revival for the Indian cricket and would win the 2007 world cup.
