Srinath is being diplomatic
by R M Vikas on Mar 30, 2005 05:48 PM

Srinath ! be fair to yourself . I know you too will be desparate at the moment but trying to give reason for Master-blaster's( I do not know how appropriate is this word now) non-performance which is incorrect. On papers we have best middle order batsmen in world. We play for individual records. BCCI cricket team has individuals , egoistic ones. Pakistani team played as team , and they won. We have developed habit of inspirational leaders , yesterday it was Sachin , today Sehwag and do not know who will be demi-god tomorrow. Due to this demi-god culture no team sport is developing in India. Cricket will be next Hockey. We kept on praying Dhanchands of Hockey and one fine morning hockey was struggling to get up on its feet , its in crawling stage , we all know. Cricket has to get above Sachins and Sehwags. Emphasis should be on team. Pakistan won because they dumped their false God called Soib Akhtar. BCCI should learn a lesson or two. Look at Pathan , just after 2 series , he is out of gas. Now he should go to world of advertisements and leave game for people who are toiling hard. He was projected as "The Phenomenon" of Indian cricket. Ganguly , VVS Laxman should be sacked .

Non active captain
by Ravi Shankar on Mar 30, 2005 04:59 PM  | Hide replies

Of course we all the Indian Cricket fans respects and wishe Saurav for his good and agressive captainship in the past. But definitely not now that too by losing Team India's respect in the circket world.

I hope Saurav, Sachin and Laxman will give way to the youngsters like Yuvaraj, Kaif, etc, in the Indian Team immediately to Team India become very competitive in the next World Cup, otherwise, Indian cricket fans next World Cup dream will disappear.

Hats of and Good by Saurav, Sachin and Laxman. Hope to see you all soon as commentators or in the fourth umpire discussion in DD sports.

I support ur point regarding inefficient captain. Sachin performance not now but always showing him as world class batsman. Eventhough he recovered from in his injuries, he made 3 half centuries in this test series.

Why India too defensive
by Siddique on Mar 30, 2005 01:57 PM

One cannot understand why india too defensive on fifth day specially after Shewag dissmisal. Why they not play positive cricket like Kumble. Tendulkar 54 deliveries 7 runs no one can beleive what a great batsman can do??? Where is his class may be playing for records?? Ganguly's performance in all the series disgusting everytime play foolish shot may be he is not seeing the ball. He should drop as acaptaincy as well batsman from Test side. Also give a fare chance to Kaif and Yuwaraj to prove themselves. At least one match the big names should be dropped...

Instability in Indian Team
by cyrus panthaky on Mar 30, 2005 11:21 AM

One wonders, what our coach was doing when we went on total defensive in the second innings of test match? Is he not responsible ? Why only our captain ?

I now begin to strongly believe that the think tank of the team, lack total imagination & at many a times simple common sense also.

It is high time the board appoints one qualified proffessional to guide the team in times of adversity.

You've got it wrong Srinath
by HB on Mar 30, 2005 11:08 AM  | Hide replies

The only magical innings everyone is expecting from Sachin these days is to play atleast like Kumble.

See either you can measure up to your great past and deliver, or you can get in line with kaif, yuvraj.

you cannot occupy a seat in the team you do not deserve any more. the same measuring stick should be used for everyone.

why doesn;t he do the gentlemanly thing and just retire. the selectors and commercial brands sure do not want to see him out of the team. and it wont be long before the audiences say - hey wait a minute, when did he become obsolete.

i second your opinion, guys like kumble, bhajji, balaji tried thier bi. while ganguly had given it up. looked like "guys, i am a successful captain - i have done my bit already. i am currently out of form, so its up to other to save the boat now" was written on his shirt. pathetic to see the way indians went down. its ok to lose against someone who's inspired, but its bad to look at indians trying to prop up rookies by denying ourselves a chance. just plain stupid. they look like a bunch of silly asses. but very very rich and proud ones.

Stability of the Indian Team
by Nitin Gandhi on Mar 30, 2005 08:52 AM

I think Indian team is very stable and consistent.
They are consistently showing that they lack the fighting spirit. Consistently they display that they cannot play under pressure.
consistantly they display the good advertisement contracts.
Long live the Indian team. My foot!!!!

Surprise Surprise
by Srinath on Mar 30, 2005 08:40 AM

I am not surprised that J Srinath has coolly forgotten to mention his fellow statesman Anil Kumble who delivered the goods for india in the first innings with his 0/150

Rahul Dravid will truly be a wall if he can bat time on DAY 5 to SAVE a test & let me tell you all this target was unchaseable given the fact that only until sachin the batsmen were in form while other 2 were looking to play for a spot in the side & we all know how good indian tail is in such situations.

in such situation do you expect people to play positively ???

as stupid a comment as a player he was in tests..

Compare the two 'K's
by Dr T S Raman on Mar 30, 2005 08:03 AM  | Hide replies

Recently, Saurav Ganguly is being attacked for his non-performance with bat or ball, and occasionally for his captaincy. Why does nobody talk of Kumble? Kumble might have taken wickets, but I think he is well past his prime. He gets wickets only because he is given so many overs to bowl. He makes life difficult for the wicketkeeper by spraying the ball all over the place, sometimes more than a yard outside the leg stump. He was getting hardly any turn off the wicket, whereas Kaneria -- and Afridi -- were able to spin the ball right across the batsmen. Is it not time to ask Kumble to retire and give a chance to youngsters like Amit Mishra?

I strongly agree with the view points of Dr.Raman. We may have to go through difficult times even a defeat against minnows of Cricket with the absence of a young successors in our spin dept. Kumble has been a match winner and he had a heroic performance in Australia. But, now that he is getting old our Thinktanks still feels that he would play until he reaches 50. Harbhajan is demoralised becos of the close watch and frequent interventions and inspections will keep him away from the game and unable to find his rhythm. He got wickets becos he experimented the flight of the ball rather than the regular turn. Young talented blood be given a chance and who knows they can beat the current spinning wizards !!!!!!!!!
