by T.S.Gopalakrishnan on Mar 24, 2005 03:54 PM

Sirs,
Ganguly along with Lakshman, kumble. zahir khan
sould give way for others more in form
like Kaiff,Dinesh mongia.Yuvaraj,murali
karthik,Powar etc.Also the present selectors
should quit and former Indian captains should take
their place. We should take note of so many
changes in all the cricket teams in the world
and do take some concrete steps

Captaincy and Ganguly
by Purushotham on Mar 24, 2005 02:23 PM

Sir,

It has been a long time since Ganguly took the captaincy and that is the only thing which is saving him from losing the place in the tests and oneday squad. He may be most successful captain as per statistics but India team would have done better even in his absence.

It should be mentioned that the test victories in Australia and Pakistan and even the recent test win at Kolkata are irrespective of the performance of the Ganguly as a player and also as a Captain. He should have stepped down as Captain after the world cup defeat against Australia. The argument that he should not be suspended for delay in the final match at Kolkata is disgraceful for him to continue as Captain. Now it is high time that BCCI should change the Captain to youngesters like VVS Laxman, who is of tremondous potential as a player and as a Captain.

Ganguly's performance...
by Rishi on Mar 24, 2005 04:35 AM

The article says somewhere "He remains a fine one-day international performer". I wonder how people decide on "fine one-day performer". Okay - he has 22 centuries. That's it? It doesnt matter when he got them? It doesn't matter how much he has scored in the recent past? I am yet to see a dominant Ganguly innings in over 2 years in ODIs (the only one in tests was in Brisbane).

Ganguly's ODI average in the last 365 days is 30.6 and just for kicks, if you ignore the 2 innings against UAE&Kenya, his average is 27.4. And his performance is rated fine.

Whereas, Sehwag inspite of his 195 against Aus and 309 against Pak in a short span of time, was considered out of form and was almost dropped against Aus. He has scored 3 scores of 150+ since then. Sachin was considered unfit and out of form and was almost dropped. Laxman can get the axe anyday irrespective of whether he scores 0 or 284. But Ganguly - he is a fine performer. If you ask him, he has always says, I am in great form, I am getting my 30s and 40s but not able to convert them into big scores. And the media always tries to hide his batting performance behind the team's results.

Kaif/Yuvraj/Other Youngsters - Hope!!!

Ganguly, Dravid, Sachin and Kumble

All of them are around 32. Will retire around same time. Is BCCI thinking beyond them? They should name either remove SG as a caption and may be even from the playing 11. Get Kaif / Yuvraj in and make either a caption. Othewise Team BCCI will become pakistans team after the WC2007. All senors will be gone ....

If you want to be champion think like Aussies. Ganguly should not be in in team dump him like Steve or Mark. He has achived his best and we all would agree BCCI team prospoerd under him.He took up captionship when others refused it. It was tough time after Azar was (kicked) out.

So appreciate SG in best way honor him and move on. With him this team cannt go to WC 2007

Incompetent writer
by shekhar on Mar 23, 2005 10:51 PM

Frankly, it was quite some time since one had come across an article written with such poor ground work and application. A highly incompetent writer has a pre-conceived notion about an individual. (Perhaps this was the only way to get noticed!)
I am no great fan of Ganguly, but I would have perhaps given better reasons than a vague " off late his performances have not been..." kind of loose statements.
Aided by an absolutely lopsided version of Kapil Dev's statement.
The efforts put-in for writing the article are woefully inadequate.
The reasons in favour of the skipper are more than that which call for him to step down!
A sham job. Terrible, really.
