Incompetent writer
by shekhar on Mar 23, 2005 10:51 PM

Frankly, it was quite some time since one had come across an article written with such poor ground work and application. A highly incompetent writer has a pre-conceived notion about an individual. (Perhaps this was the only way to get noticed!)
I am no great fan of Ganguly, but I would have perhaps given better reasons than a vague " off late his performances have not been..." kind of loose statements.
Aided by an absolutely lopsided version of Kapil Dev's statement.
The efforts put-in for writing the article are woefully inadequate.
The reasons in favour of the skipper are more than that which call for him to step down!
A sham job. Terrible, really.

you guys have no idea
by subho on Mar 23, 2005 09:28 PM

you guys have no idea what its to be the leader of a team, that too in a country like india where every fan expects the team to win every sngle match.

ganguly had a 50+ average when he was just a member of the team. ever since he took over as captain, his form has taken a beating. there has been not a single indian captain, who's form didnt suffer once he became the captain. even tendulkar wasnt an exception.

and mind you, ganguly is undoubtedly a far more involved captain than india has ever had. had the other's put in as much thought and time behinds the team's well being and compositon the way he does, its likely that they would have lost their form somewhat more. conversely, if ganguly had the "stay aloof" kind of attitude of, say a mohammed azhar, he could have devoted more time and concentration on his own game.

in today's game "homework" is most important and both batsmen and bowlers alike, have to spend considerable ammount of time studying the shortcommings of their own game & the strengths of the opposition bowlers / batsmen. which is what he doesnt allow himself the luxury of, and could surely have done so, had he not been the sort of commited captain he is.

Ganguly has always been underrated.....
by Kanjoos on Mar 23, 2005 09:26 PM

This column has just not taken everything in consideration. Captainship is basically carrying a team together, and Ganguly has been doing exceptionally well.

Ganguly's batting records speaks volume. Dravid may be WALL, But Indian WALL has fell cheaply when he was captain in the absense of Ganguly.

Ganguly's average is better than Rahul Dravid. Ganguly is also someone who was arrogant when he came in the team, but look at the positiveness now. He is very aggressive and a very good ambassador for the game.

I do not agree with Kapil Dev, if he has said that Ganguly should give away for youngsters like kaif & Yuvi. I think youngsters need to earn place,l first deserve then they shud desire. Ganguly is just 32, which is considered to be prime time for batsman. He has good 4-5 years of cricket left, so is with Tendulkar & Dravid.

Thank you,

Kanjoos

Here we go!
by Saikat Biswas on Mar 23, 2005 08:58 PM

And ladies and gentlemen, please welcome back our very own resident experts!! Once again it is high time that our cricket captain is reminded that no matter what he might have achieved in his capacity as the captain of our cricket team, his own place in it is seriously in peril unless he comes up with three-figure runs every second match. Ofcourse, others might have their own share of lean patches (sometimes even longer!) and missed catches but hey, it's Ganguly we're talking about right?

Sure the boys in the team like him, but who cares? Surely we have more faith in the opinions of our 'pradhan' experts.

And come on dude, say what you will about how he inspires his teammates, the Brits call him 'snooty'. Shouldn't he have been more friendlier with them?

Enough already.I present to you all our very own, very very concerned cricket well-wishers.

All rise!

Ganguly don't deserve to be in the Team!!!
by amit kumar on Mar 23, 2005 08:25 PM

Hi All,

With my attitude and with my thinking, It's just impossible for me to find a reason to keep ganguly in the team. Ganguly "did" a lot for India. Ganguly "changed" attitude of Indian. But it "happened". He had already done all the good he can do to India and now he is doing only bad..bad and bad. Now indian selectors should start thinking from Indians point of view not ganguly's point of view, I person who does well in past don't deserve a place only because he did well in the past. Now selectors should apply "some" brain and should take some decisions like ganguly himself and keep ganguly out of indian team. Though I know Indian selectors will carry him like they carried Md. Azhar. We have to be like australians to beat them and Remember how they sacked steve waugh when he was playing bad.I hope somebody who can do something is listening.

Regards,

Amit

The most ridiculous column I have read
by Pinaki on Mar 23, 2005 08:17 PM

First, Who is this Kunal Pradhan? What is his credibility? I follow cricket very religiously but have never heard of this person. In todays date with so much coverage over the game every body who can write a bit thinks himself/herself to be a great writer. I just dont understand the truth, credibility of what he is writing. What is his background? I understand Ganguly's bad form with the bat. But who on world can deny his captaincy and I really dont think its necessary for Ganguly to prove anything to someone so meagre as Kunal Pradhan who does not have any cricketing accumen, understanding, background or credibility. Only writing good english does not make him a good writer. I dont think he has any right to question the Indian captain, his form, and his way of work because I dont think he (Kunal) himself knows anything about this. Its very unfortunate to see these kind of articles on rediff which i believe always produces good column but this is cheap and substandard.

He's way past his prime...
by Arindam Banerjee on Mar 23, 2005 07:08 PM

Frankly speaking, if not for his captaincy, Ganguly's would have lost his place in the side a long time ago.

His batting shows no signs of ever coming INTO form and he makes you wish for a Davis Cup like situation, where we can have a non playing captain!
