Elbow Room
by C.N. Shankar on Mar 17, 2005 05:37 AM  | Hide replies

Age is not against him. His skills are never to be doubted. Selection to Play for India is a Certainty. Only thing that could prevent him is his own Elbow.
Sachin will make the 35th Hundred and perhaps will over haul the Highest Score - 11174 now on Allan Border's Name. It is going to be very difficult for others to surpass those two records even though all of us have been hearing "records are meant to be broken" from All & Sundry.

The one thing that does not appear to be with in his reach is the 400 runs record set by Brian Lara.

Sachin the Great
by Prashant Zanwar on Mar 16, 2005 07:48 PM

Sachin entered in Test cricket, and India got placed one way as we never had a consisten player like him. I would rate him alrounder. Being of the same age as of me, I feel jealous of him. His acheivements are not only remarkable but everyone in India feels proud of him. It won't exagerration to say he got the power to conquer the world circket. One such player I saw anytime in cricket, who right from his young age devoted for his country. He is mastermind like Sir Vivian Richards and surely blessed like Sir Don Bradman. I wish him Many more colours in world of cricket in days to come ahead.
If not more, he should play atleast till 35 of his Age. And Indian government might adore him with some very special Award, might be like every stadium in India may have a STAND by his name. Every BAT which get produced in India or elsewhere shall have his tiny signature.

should i feel happy?
by satya on Mar 16, 2005 07:46 PM  | Hide replies

Should I feel happy that he has completed 10000 runs? For last few years Mr. Tendulkar is only playing for his personal milestone. He has become so selfish that he is least bothered about the team and results . The mohali test was drawn and a big part of credit goes to Mr. Tendulkar who was playing like India in deep trouble and there was need to spend time in wicket when the situation demanded that he should get quick runs for team India. This man has not improved after the embarrassment he faced when Rahul declared the inning fed up of his utterly slow inning when Mr. tendulkar was in 190's. In India everything goes by how big a figure someone is. Well I fully admire tendulkar for whatever he has achieved so far but this does not mean he should take everyone for a ride in his lust for records.

hello mr.satya,
after having spent 16 yrs of life in playing cricket for india the game would def mean something more to him than what it does to to u and to me.self promotion and aggrandisement is not the vice of sachin alone .it's in all of us .stop being preachy and try cheering him up for whatever he's worth .if u can't do that pl...........s don't be so condescending .

There is something I would like you to look at:

Name            Mat       ;I      NO      Runs      HS & nbsp;    Ave      100      50
SR Tendulkar      122      195      22       10000      248*      57.80&nb sp;     34      39
R Dravid      87      147      18&nbs p;     7413      270      57.46 &nb sp;    18      36

The stats give a clear indication that in contemporary cricket, only Rahul Dravid may reach heights attained by Sachin, if he continues playing a longer innings. And, the good point is that a brilliant batsman like Rahul also goes on to bat at around an strike rate of 55-60. If that does not dampen his efforts, how could Sachin be blamed. Only that we have lot more expectations from him.

Best wishes

Hi Satya, i think u r criticizing Tendulkar for no reasons.I think tendulkar didn't play that slow in that test in Pak.The only thing was that he was comparatively slower than Sehwag. His strike rate was 50-60.And if u c the data, i think Dravid or any other gr8 batsman were more slower than him in their high scoring innings. So u can't always compare Sachin with Sehwag.Again why r u looking at 1 or 2 of his innings. If Sachin takes 105 balls for his century, it is considered slower. But Any other batsman plays more balls than him to make his century.Ya ofcourse batsman like Sehwag r excemptions. The fact is that Sehwag style batsman r not taking responsibility. No body is going to blame them if they fails. But if Sachin fails in a single inning( his 50 run inning is also considered as failure here ), he face criticism. The fact is that we expect a lot from him.We expect that he should strike hard in first 15 overs and he must stay till the end of the Indian innings.Which is quite unfair.Sometimes we compare him with carefree batsman like Sehwag, Gilchrist, Jaysurya, and at the same time we compare him with more responsible batsman like Bevan,Dravid,Steve Waugh,D'Silva. Its unfair.

U said it Satya ! ! ! Ur comments r the xact ones that every Indian who does not believe in the larger than life image given to cricketers in India believe. To top it all, the reaction by Sachin that he dint know y the crowd was so noisy on him reaching the milestone. As if he dint know ... It's time someone brought these ppl down to reality . For god's sake, cricket is not the only sport in the world . I dunno when India will wake up to this reality . btw, Congrats for whatever u have achieved, though i does not mean much to me , only regrets that i spent a good deal of my youth watching cricket ...

by Milden on Mar 16, 2005 04:35 PM

My congratulations to Sachin for achieving yet another milestone under his name. Just like me there will so many others who's gonna to say some thing or the other on him... Hats off to you Sachin and keep going on for more. Your TEAM INDIA needs more runs from you and your BAT. Dear Writer, just make your facts right before writing it. Sachin tendulkar reached his milestone after Gavaskar, Border ... and not what you have stated as after Border .....
