Inzy deserves
by S Raman on Aug 24, 2005 10:43 AM

Inzy deserves a place in Test squad. Inzy should have been selected in place of Sachin [who is out of form and physically unfit] and Michael Vaughn in place of Shewag, who cant move his feet, in Test Squad.

Likewise, in ODI squad, Stephen Flemming should have been preferred in place of Shewag and Mahela Jayawardhene in place of Sachin.

iCC should have gone into the selection process, based on the current form of players.

Sachin and Shewag, are two major weak links in both type of tournaments.

Inzy's Exclusion
by Anandh on Aug 24, 2005 04:08 AM  | Hide replies

Pakistan were hardly doing well before the tour to India in march-april 2005. Whilst the Indians drew the test rubber against the aussies on their trip down under, the Pakistanis lost both the tests! Besides its open knowledge that Younis Khan would have any way succeeded if the Pakistanis had been white washed on their tour in India. So,whats Pakistan and Inzy cribbing about? There is no Stephen Fleming in the team. Fleming is a shrewd tactician and there is no Saurav Ganguly who is also an aggressive skipper. So did Pakistan think that off all these impressive candidates Inzy would get the top bill? huh........pipe dream.......

It seems that the one who is cribbing is you because of the support for Inzamam's inclusion in the ICC World XI. A right that he fully desreves for both the test and ODI teams. If not as a captain than surely as a player. He is truly a great player, in the class of Sachin / Lara / Dravid / Ponting. Only a few like yourself fail to see it.

This is PATHETIC!!!
by Jibran on Aug 24, 2005 02:03 AM

Selectors have certainly lost their mind, how can any one leave a batsman like Inzamam out of any squad, man have you seen his current form. The guy has won games for his country when every thing was lost. His winning record is better than most of your so called world class batsmen. Even Sachin Tendulkar doesn't justify selection on his current form, and tell me why Graeme Smith and Herchille Gibbs, there record isn't better than Inzamam.
Mr. Sunil Gavaskar owes the world an explanation of the blunder.

ICC WORLD XI needs some changes
by Jay on Aug 24, 2005 01:10 AM

These are the suggested changes that should be made in the World XI side then it makes more sense.
Makhya Ntini to be replaced by Chaminda Vaas
Grame Smith to be replaced by Inzamamul Haq
Steve Harmison to be replaced by Heath Streak
If someone can find a replacement for Kevin Petersien for eg: Mahela Jawardane or Yousuf Yohana or Stephen Fleming or Nathan Astle.
ICC panel has disappointed a lot of people not only players but even cricket fans like us. Do they have any explaination for choosing these alternatives?

surprised inzy's exclusion
by rahul on Aug 24, 2005 01:00 AM  | Hide replies

its really surprising to see inzumam missing in the list. true , that not all can be seen in the world XI team , but the way the big man has been performing to rescue his team in crisis , shows he is a prodigy no doubt. gavaskar and his mates would find it hard to explain the reason for his exclusion and in the meantime it will be a hard pill to swallow for pakies...

Mr. get your cricket intel right. Inzamam was seriously injured during the last two tests and Yohana lead the side in those test. However in VB series as soon as he came back, in the very first match he scored 68 against Aussies, in the second he scored 62 against Westindies, another 50 once again against Aussies. Than 74 against West indies at Perth and than a 51 in the first final against aussies. He averaged 52 and scored 364 runs in total. So I don't know what you talking about man, probably should pay more attention.

Gavaskar did well by dropping Inzamam
by Wilfred on Aug 24, 2005 12:54 AM  | Hide replies

Inzy coulnt perform well he couldnt even make a fifty in last tour of Australia. So Gavaskar Has done well by picking up players who played well in Australia or in good form in recent matches. However Vaughan could have been better captaincy choice than Graeme Smith.

It will be better if you re-look at the statistics from Pakistan's last tour of Australia. Inzamam missed 2 tests due to injury but followed it up with a sterling performance in the ODIs. Paksitan should have have beaten Australia 2-0 in the finals had it not been for poor umpiring. Put prejudice aside. It blurs one's vision.

Poor selection By little master
by Vineet on Aug 24, 2005 12:49 AM

Graeme Smith hasnt played a match against Australia or he didnt even hit a 50 againt them how come he become captain of World XI.Vaughan who has great captaincy record probably best, then how come they not select him or even Inzamam who has great record this season.

Inzamam disappointed
by Manoj on Aug 24, 2005 12:03 AM

it is indeed shocking that a batsman of Inzamam's calibre has not been added to the World XI test squad. I can understand his running may have costed him a place in the ODI squad, but if 10000+ runs and consistent performances don't merit a selection in the test squad, what does? He could have been taken instead of Smith or even Sehwag. Their performances have already been evaluated in another article http://www.rediff.com/cricket/2005/aug/23deep.htm

When India plays Pakistan, I am not sure of India's victory till Inzy is playing as he is a match winner and can turn a game on his day.

Inzamam deserves to be in the team
by indian on Aug 23, 2005 11:41 PM

Inzamam rightfully deserves to be in the team. He did a
fantastic job during indian tour and he is such a
classy player. Performance should be the criteria not
records. They should drop sachin and put inzamam in
his place.
