Lets forget his form for sometime now, what is wrong in appealing? The ICC doesn't have fixed rules unlike football, so if there is ambiguity in the system, the players can leverage that. I don't think he has done anything to show that he is above the game.
Dravid as captain and Sriram were all stand-in arrangements, so if Ganguly can come back, why shouldn't he. Had he been in form, who would have called for his head??!! For a person who has contributed so much for the nation, I see no reason why he should sacrifice his career when he is 33 runs away from 10000 in ODIs and 51 away from 5000 in tests.
Now coming to his personal form, yes, he has having a really bad time as a batsman. I remember one instance (2001 Australia tour of India) where we won the test series without his contribution. He also played bad in the ODIs barring the last ODI where is scored 74, after that came back well.
There have been ups and down in his test career, agreed, but in ODIs.. even if he averaged 32/33 in 2004, which is poor by his standards, that is equal to Viru's career batting avg in ODIs. Now decide who is in form, who is not.
This poor patch is something he will soon overcome.
I personally believe ganguly should be dropped as captain and let him come again in the indian squad by performing on merit basis .He has to revisit his golden old days and practice hard to get into the team .It is blessings in disguise for dravid to be named as skipper of indian team .
Why can't this decision, about whether Ganguly whould play, be taken by someone who had been responsible for some very good decisions in the past on play-ground. This man is none other than Ganguly. He should be fair enough in deciding whether he really deserves a spot in team with his current performances ? I think its been a popular opinion that he should take some time out of game and then come back with new energy and thoughts.
As every player goes through a lean patch, we should rightly give them a break. There is no point in having a guy who is not playing well and still be selected for the series, hoping that he would get form soon. Look what they do to Hayden in Australia.. Representing ur country is not a thing of past records.. It is about giving your best when the team needs. As a player everyone would feel that he could always perform well. But the reality might be different. So the selectors need to be tough and select the team accordingly..
But these bunch of jokers are thinking like a clown.. Why is the need of sriram if you think Dinesh is better.( both bowls leftarm and plays left.. and certainly are not going to play in same XI. And there is one gentlaman called JP YAdav who is at his best in this season adn perhaps the best allrounder in the country..And he would be wondering what else he should do to get in to the team.. i dont know when he is going to be selected .. probably 2 years later when he is past his best.. The only good thing is they had given Kumble a chance again which they should have done at the start of the series. Anyway ganguly or not, Indians need to perform well..

It is true that he is awfully out of form. If you look at the averages since January 2004, he stands nowhere. You find people like Dravid, Sehwag and Laxman topping the list. Still, you find Laxman has been dropped from the team. Ganguly has never been supporter of Laxman. Ganguly cleverely put pressure on Laxman before the start of the Test series with Pakistan by saying that Laxman is our trimp card. People knew that he is targetting Laxman.
If you take the averages of Laxman and Ganguly, Laxman is clearly the best. But still he is dropped on the pretext that he is not a good one day fielder. All Indians know how good a fielder Ganguly is. Ganguly has this bad habit of protecting his people like Yuvraj Singh, Jaheer Khan and so on. And keep talented people like Laxman and Kumble out of the team. Everyone knows his liking for Bhajji ahead of Kumble. The way he trated Kumble is sin. Ganguly gives a feeling that he is against talented South Inidan players.
Friends, Ganguly doesn't deserve a place neither in one day nor in tests. He doesn't deserve a place in ranji trophy matches. As a captain, he is playing favorites. Get rid of him......
His current state of bad phase should not be taken as the carrer as a batsman. In fact history will confirm many such bad patches in the lives of many captains. Saurav should definitely be allowed to lead this series at least and it may also help in getting back his form, afterall his captainship is invaluable.
There was a major bugs in the india's batting order, normally in the one day match-
1-15 need some quick runs (4 and 6)
15 -40 need steady run (1 and 2)
40 - 50 need again quick runs (4 and 6)
so if you see the indian team order for the first 15 overs india have sehwag thats fine but the problem here is with the indian middle orders, in the middle order its really hard to get 4 or 6 but here we really need some one who can able to pick the easy singles, if you look at our batting line up india have 3 batsmans who can easily pick singles and doubles are Kaif , Rahul and Yuvraj, but unfortunately kaif is coming at number 7.
kaif was the player who is fit to be at number 3, but we dint get the reason ganguly cannot send kaif at number 3 when laxman is out of the team. in the recent matches india have tested new batsman Dhoni by sending him at number 3 and he as proven gud, but is it really needed whn we have specialised one down batsman like kaif in the team. the testing batsman will work for one or two games but that will never help any more india really need some one like kaif at number 3 to play the big innings so that he can take quick runs but unfortunately he is coming
