Yes, he should...

Ganguly, I agree, may not be in best of form. But, at the same time, Its equally difficult for a new player to come and start performing. BCCI chief has taken this oppurtunity to settle personal score. Should captain be held responsible so much that he is out of side for 6 matches. 1 Match ban should be enough to pass the message.

Gnaguly should play at Kanpur
by Kishore on Apr 14, 2005 03:55 PM

I donno y there have always been these stupid forums and questions raised. Y r we more concerned here than the players on the field. Y r always the issues being raised unnecessarily with all these discussions having no net effect on the outcome of the selection or the match. Let us believe in our own captain rather than sacking him.

It's been our tendency to be volatile on our taste and decisions. Let's try to look back and see the acheivements and contributions made by Ganguly to the team in the past rather than concentrating on the small issues and focussing on a small period of time.

Can ganguly play kanpur ODI?
by venkat Raghavan on Apr 14, 2005 03:20 PM

Yes I feel that Ganguly should play Kanpur ODI.Come on we all know that he is totally out of form and also I can say that he is trying hard to come back to form.If the not allowed it is goin to do more harm to his career.Plz do not forget that he is world's 3rd batsmen to have reached 10000 runs(thogh is just some 40 runs behind)also the 2nd in most no of centuries in ODI.He will soon be back.In 1999-2000 dravid failed in 14 innings in a row and he was not dropped. The next 10 innings he made 4 centuries so plz give India's most successful captain time and chance to prove himself and I'am quite sure He will sooner or later.

Six match ban was better. What's the use if he plays with out of form?

A good eye opener for those who think Ganguly is a great captain and has taken Indian cricket to new levels. India is in 8th position (second last position) in both rediff and ICCI ODI rankings, just above Zimbabwe.
As mentioned in this article, Inzy and PCB accepted their punishment without appeal, but our skipper is not even contented with repeating the offence (slow over rate) again and again by his sheer adamancy. He makes it doubly bad by appealing against every ban. How more selfish can he be by putting Indian Cricket norms to bad light this way for personal gains, to be allowed to play a few more games. That too when he is in such worst form!!
Every reader in his right mind will undoubtedly see that ICCI is right in imposing the ban, as he has been warned and fined 2 more times in last few months for the same offence. But Ganguly no doubt with his arrogance thinks he is above any law and never learns his lessons. I think BCCI must take this ban as blessing in disguise and must not allow Ganguly back in the team at any cost, let alone getting back the captaincy. Dravid is no doubt more fit to lead India, both morally and for wise.

Indo Pak : Ganguly Ban
by Pankaj on Apr 14, 2005 03:01 PM

Ganguly has been shunted out in the most shamely way due to his own performance and his constant persuasion that he shall regain his performance which he has failed for 7 matches in a row. We a country of 100 crores cannot afford him. Every player has his time and it seems Ganguly has got his time to move ahead in time and constrate on his food business in which he is more interested these days.

Ganguly is requested for his own sake and for the country's sake to remain out for life from cricket field. He may if he wishes join as a commentator.

Should Ganguly play at Kanpur

A1. How do you conclude that he is above the laws of the game ? If his appeal is not accepted, the ban on him will continue to exist. An article on your own (rediff.com) site (http://in.rediff.com/cricket/2005/apr/14gang.htm) quotes "Once a ban is appealed, it is automatically stayed until the review process can be completed." So if he plays, there is nothing unlawful.

A1.(contd) It's PCB's problem and not ours!

A2. It's upto Mr.Mahindra and the selection committee to resolve this confusion. With respect to Sriram, he was selected assuming that Ganguly is unavailable. Now since Ganguly is available it is obvious that he will have to be dropped. It's not Ganguly's fault. It's the fault of the circumstances. And with due respect to Sriram's talent, please note that he was selected in Sharjah tournament in September 2000 and he failed. Then he was selected against Bangladesh recently and he failed.

A3. Yes, Ganguly should lead ! Because he is a better captain than Dravid. Again Dravid was selected as a captain on the assumption of Ganguly' s non-avaialbility. Now that assumption is not true and so no issues.

My emphatic answer : Yes Ganguly should play and lead
if ICC allows.

Should Ganguly play at Kanpur
by sachin on Apr 14, 2005 02:32 PM

No, Actually time came when India want new Captain. As per my concern i can not think Indian team without captain as saurav so India can show new path for others a non playing captain - 12th man as Ganguly because now in Indian Team no one is aggressive as Ganguly, no one is as risk taker as Ganguly, he try new things, he trust on what he is doing but he can not motivate by his work (bat). No doubt he is the best captain but right now he is not playing well. so keep Ganguly as captain and India come on groud with other 11 boys - set a path for others - why we look allways to South Africa and Australia to follow their path
