CHAMPANIONS TROPHY
by K.G.RANGANATHAN on Sep 26, 2004 05:18 PM

After 25 years west indians winning the major tournament. Once again they have proved they are the champions. I think in future they are going to dominate the world in one day cricket. My best wishes to Brian lara and their team mates.

This is a match one how to play up to the end without loosing patience. In that way WI played vey well.At the same time this is the match for the opposite team not to underestimate the tailend players. because they are also good players, but they get this type of situation rarely.

Winies Glory!
by venkat C.V. on Sep 26, 2004 01:49 PM

While puting the Hats off to the Great Windies fight back, to cup the Champions Trophy, its a mystery why Ashley Giles was not given a Bowl! Surely, the England skipper should've turned to him at least when the Windies were in their 44th over. Glorious uncertainty of the English skipper! Did he forget that one Mr. Giles, who can turn the ball, was on the field?

Dear Sir,
Could u plz explain the following paragraph and clarify who elected to bat first?
West Indies won the toss and expectedly elected to bat. Brian Lara was certainly not going to repeat the mistake that Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul Haq made in the semi-final when he decided to bat.
Thank u.
Prasad

I dont think we can fault vaughan for ignoring giles. The wicket was aiding seamers, and i doubt if giles could do any different. He would have merely kept the scoring rate low, but england needed wickets , not a economic bowling spell. But you are right, one or two over spell from giles wouldnt have hurt much.

But after all performances like this happens once in a decade, so it was not meant to be england' day.

The West Indian Win !
by vivek bahadur on Sep 26, 2004 11:40 AM

The ICC Trophy Winners truly played like Champions and this is what makes Cricket a Game of Glorious Uncertainties !
No one could have imagined that the once written -off,depleted West Indian team could spring such a massive surprise that it would take the world dance to calypso later into the night. It was sheer determination, dedicated team effort,un-dying spirit and dynamism that they lifted the gleaming ICC Trophy !
Congratulations to the Victors and well played the Vanquished Vaughan's who too lifted their score to some respectability due to Trescothick's Flint with the bat when the other Flint, failed to take Off !!

check out the script
by Abhinesh on Sep 26, 2004 11:39 AM

Hi,

Since I was not able to watch the match, i wanted to know the details of the match. but

while reading the script, i was totally confused whether West Indies have won the toss or England. and who have decided to bat. please checkout the para under "West Indies innings". because whatever is mentioned is contradicting to who batted first and who fielded.

Hats off to West Indies for this glorious feat. The
rearguard action of Courtney Brown and Ian Bradshaw is simply unbelievable. Our tail enders could never dream of such a batting performance.
