6-1-3-1 formula for india
by Manish Wani on Sep 16, 2004 10:24 AM

I think 6-bat, 1-keep, 3-seam and 1-spin should be India's combination with current lot. One may say what is new in it. The new thing is the current Indian team can go with this age old proven formula!!! It will play wonders as then everybody has a clear cut out role.
Shewag, Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman, Kaif, Yuvraj.
Kartik, Bajji, Irfan, Nehra, Aagarkar (do not be surprise by this as Balaji is unfit)

I think once sachin is back then all those questions of 7 vs 6 bat starts coming up!!! So isn't it blessing in disguise :). Still in that case Laxman / Yuvraj / Kaif -- in that order, can make way for Sachin in One day.

Stick to this and India will be winning combination.

Manish

Attitude - Indian cricket
by Sachin Pethe on Sep 12, 2004 09:42 PM

I am in total agreement with Mr Prem Paniker's closing words. When India had the chance to get Kenya all out,it should have been done. The Aussie attitude of 'Trample the weak & hurdle the dead' is what India should aim for. If we have the opposition cornered simply finish them off. With Saurav at the helm there has definitely been a more aggresive and positive trend when it comes to the attitude of the Indian cricketers. Kudos to the team Indian !!

Ganguly is the TRUE LEADER and a GREAT ODI batsman
by Pratim Guha Biswas on Sep 12, 2004 05:17 PM  | Hide replies

It is the captains call Mr Panicker whether to play 6 batsmen and 1 wicket keeper who seems to be a liability when it comes to batting. Dravid's ODI batting was considered useless for the shorter version of the game before he became the wicket keeper. Only while he became the wicket did he start to play better and started getting quick runs. Another thing, just becos laxman cannot bat after no.3 doesnt mean that one of the top three Ganguly, sehwag and sachin will bat at no.4 or even below that. Ganguly is a much superior ODI batter than Laxman and that is a foregone conclusion. Sehwag even with a poor run of form is electric. Saching not the same now but still is consistent. Its all upto the captain whether to play with 7 batters or 6 batters and 1 wicket keeper.

Get your facts right pal. Dravids batting changed not when he started keeping wickets but in the 99 world cup itself when he started to improvise. Check out Ganguly hop and dance against Pakistans pace.

silly and mediocre!
by Muralidhar Rao on Sep 12, 2004 03:43 PM

What's the big deal in performing against minnows like Kenya? Even the India A team thrashed Kenya in Kenyan soil itself. But these main Indian bowlers failed to get all the 10 wickets even against a team like Kenya. Let us see how these so called bigshots will perform against Pakistan? And supposedly they do win let us see how these bold and beautifuls will perform against their next opponents. It does not matter if India loses once in a while but after boasting that they are the second best team after Australia they had better stand up to their own self-aggrandizement instead of losing more than 9 matches out of 12. This fellow Ganguly has the habit of bragging to the hilt after a couple of good fluke performances of the team. Look at the Australians. They keep winning almost every match and yet they don't boast to the extent Ganguly & co do. Australians don't need to brag. Their winning performances speaks for itself.

Ganguly only scores against weak teams. In the recent past he has not made runs when Inida needed it most against teams like Australia and Pakistan.
