I think Ganguly was right in giving the last 17 overs to agarkar and other non-regular bowlers. I think he did to give them some confidence and match practice ahead of important encounter with Pakistan. Remember that india need to complete the fifth bowler's quota of 10 overs with the help of sehwag, yuvraj and ganguly. Atleast Sehwag has bowled more overs recently, but yuvraj and ganguly has bowled very little recently. Hence its ok for yuvraj and ganguly to bowl some overs. Also Agarkar never gets a chance to complete 10 overs nowadays. I think he is a enigmatic character(someday he will be a superstar, but next day he will fall to rock bottom) and hence giving him 10 overs will give some sort of match practice cum confidence. But i do agree that bad weather may result in net run rate calculation, but i think its not going to happen as they have 2 days for each match and also the criteria that 20 overs per innngs is enough to count it as a valid match.
Ganguli really drives me nuts as a captain - not as a batsman.
1. Why play Agarkar ? Why was not Amit Bhandari tried ? Assuming Amit Bhandari was not available, then Kumble ( not a good bowler ) , is certainly better than Agarkar in containing runs.
Also, has anyone apologized for the stupid decision of not playing Harbhajan against England in the first game of Natwest and against Pakistan in Holland ? Harbhajan and Pathan are our very best. Does the captain not even understand that ??
Even today, when Kenya was down 6 wickets, Ganguli put a defensive field and stuck to the same bowling pattern, instead of continuing with Pathan and Harbhajan. Ganguli just does not have a cricketing game. That's the biggest loss for India.
