third umpire...rule umpires as well..
by swapnil on Oct 18, 2004 07:34 PM

My message to ICC is that many decisions in test matches turn out to be crucial to the team by umpires wrong decisions.i beleive that the penalty to argue with umpire or no right to appeal to third umpire if the player has doubt of his out decision, is very disgusting and embarasing. If we see that vireneder sehwag being fined 65% of his match fees is shameful as we clearly see that he was not out.In the same way the bowler is not fined or punished the same way when he talks or discusses with umpire with any decision not given out by umpire.it is seen that he always discusees w umpire where was the ball hit, where did it go..etc.henec ICC should change its rule and allow the batsman or given the rights to batsman as well to ask for third umpire if he feels he is not out.
Thank You.

THE INDIAN TEAM SUCKS
by Vicky on Oct 14, 2004 02:54 AM

I really wonder as to even why do some people say things like the Indian team has the best players in the world. Well on the records, they may be very good at performing having had the best of statistics. People have got to start reading between the lines. Why is it that a great player like Sachin Tendulkar, fails to score on a bowling wicket? The Indian wickets simply fall like a pack of cards when bowled to on a bowling wicket. Statistics have proved that in the best possible manner. People simply overlook what happened in Durban a few years back or in Newzealand 2 years back. Inviting the mighty & invincible aussies to your own land, in your conditions & only & only on the basis of your batting strength ( on a batting wicket) & achieving a victory would not even serve the purpose. A person like Kumble, I would say is just a buffet bowler. One can pick his line & make adjustments in the shot selection as ones own discretion. The fielding department sucks right to the core. Except for Yuvraj & Kaif I don't see any player in the HISTORY of the Indian team that has displayed even an effort to stop the ball from reaching the boundry. Maybe Azar & Jadeja could be exception to a certai

Allow team to appeal

I do agree completly with the writer. Also when asian players do that they punish harshly but when the white players do no one notices that much. Especially Ranjan Madugalle is not strong enough to deal with Aussies but can punnish easily with Indians and Pakistanies.

Unaccountable umpires
by Raj on Oct 12, 2004 09:14 PM

Some of my comments to the ICC on the process it says is in place to improve umpiring:
· The impact, perceived or actual, of these measures simply does not materialize in any timely manner to efficiently and effectively improve umpiring and the game.
· There is no provision in these measures that make an umpire accountable for his incompetent, wrong decisions. After some long debate and review he may be removed from the Elite Panel. So what. In the meantime, consider the consequences to the game and to the players' morale and confidence.
· Strongly recommend that the procedures be revised to have umpires fined for two or more incompetent, wrong decisions in an innings. Shewag was probably justly fined for his misconduct; what action is (not will be) taken against the umpires for their actions, to dissuade them from repeating such blatant incompetence.
· Strongly recommend the ICC, as the governing body of international cricket, implement a team-profiling system of wrong umpiring decisions. That is, it should keep information and statistics on the number of wrong decisions against each team, as well as wrong decisions each umpire makes, and publish these. Controvesial, but useful.

This is nothing but Biased umpiring.....

Ppl who are talking abt Luck and not sup'g more tech into the game...there are thousands of explainations to each of those arguments. Most of them can be found on blogs of 23yards in Cricinfo.com.
I can't believe Adithya (somewhere in last but one page) is talking abt luck.we are not in CASINO or watching POKER showdown but we are watching cricket.

May be, Just may be we might have lost even all the decisions were right. Can any body say same thing when it is a last ball six match? How abt players avg's?

Why only three appeals? what if someone like BUCKNOR decides to take away that advantage from India and give 3 OUTS for obvious 3 notouts? I am sure Bucknor wouldn't think twice in doing so.

Now please don't argue it's part of game/ coincidence.

Why 9 out of 10 such incedents are against India. Gilchrist is talking abt wrong decision given in 2001, I can list couple of Hundred decisions given against India after that.

If Bucknor has nothing against India, why did he MOCK Dravid of Ball Tampering? Why did he treat our players like piece of nothing? did anybody forgot how he treated Parthiv/Zaheer?

It's all about skin colour even Bucknor don't like Brown ppl.

by nishant on Oct 12, 2004 01:12 AM

There r 2 challenges in total in NFL not 2 in each half. Apart from that I agree with ur idea although it is a bit far fetched.

regarding the Indians alone being fined
by rashmi on Oct 11, 2004 07:07 PM

I fully agree with you when you say that a batsman should also be allowed to appeal. I feel that even the umpire should be fined for giving poor decisions. Very often I've noticed that the Aussies often get away with vociferous and truly intimidating appealing.I watched the 1st test at Bangalore where Aussie bowlers like Gillispie & Glen Mgrath who clench and grind their teeth while appealing...its shocking that the match referee turns a blind eye to all this.Another Aussie who has often got away is Brad William who had a horrendous and terrible facial expression while appealing. Isn't the ICC watching closely?? Indians hve often being very decent on the pitch. So I think ICC needs to be a little more tough on the Aussies who actually hve to be fined for showing disrespect and dissent. rashmi

Umpiring
by bharat on Oct 11, 2004 06:53 PM

Why not fine umpires too for their
obvious mistakes ?
and the thing is what Mcgraths or Haydens can show all the time it's a sin for Sehwags and Singhs. Isn't it true?

wrong appealers should be fined
by K. Mahadevan on Oct 11, 2004 05:08 PM

Sometimes back Windies Wicket Keeper(name not remembered) had been fined for having made a wrong appeal. He had stumped the batsman with right hand, while collecting the ball with left hand. After the match was over, on the next day, he was fined for that guilty. Why not such a decision taken against the bowlers, wicketkeepers, fielders, those who deliberately make wrong appeal?
