Sehwag the Unpredictable
by Madhusudhan on Nov 25, 2004 10:17 AM

It was a fabulous partnership between Sehwag and Gambhir. Both of them played without inhibitions and it was refreshing to see them have a go at the SA bowling.

After the Pakistan series, it has been quite painful watching the likes of Dravid, Laxman, Sourav and Sachin scratching around to score runs. A lot of folks would be up in arms at this statement. Dravid is not a natural stroke player and his stodginess is probably needed in this team. What about the rest? Weak knees, yellow streak??

One thing that is very clear is that both Indian batsmen and bowlers enjoy playing on true surfaces, where there is turn, bounce and a little zip in the wicket. This team has always done well under those conditions... then why do we go to extremes in pitch preparations in India?? Extra Fast and bouncy in Nagpur, Extra bounce and square turner in Mumbai, Sleeping beauty in Kanpur.. which killed all interest?? Even the Bangalore one was not upto the mark. the only decent one till date was probably the Chennai one...puzzling approach by the administration, to say the least... don't we have the skill in-house to prepare good ones???

Will some one explain WHY, WHY, WHY????

In calculating batsman average
by Senthil Kumar on Nov 25, 2004 12:32 AM

They should show batting average only
from matches which had a result. (either
a win or loss.)

Centuries/run scored on drawn matches should
be ignored for calculation of player statistics.

Such an statistics would be a good indication
of player skill.

Sehwag
by T.M.Sivaraman on Nov 24, 2004 10:11 PM

I absolutely agree.Today crowds flock in,not to watch the seniors like Tendulkar,Dravid,Ganguly or Lakshman, but to be thrilled and enthralled by the audacious strokeplay of Sehwag, the butcher of Najafgarh.Cricket becomes an exciting and pulsating game as long as Sehwag is at the crease, for the way he puts all bowlers, including the great Ausssies,to the sword, caring little for their reputation. And the contrast to the tempo of the game with Sehwag at the crease and after his departure is remarkable. After his bludgeoning the mediocre South African attack, the same attack appeared menacing with the four seniors mentioned above all at sea and plodding along with even singles being difficult to get, whereas the same attack was make to appear as "popatwadi attack", when Sehwag was at the crease.
Let us hail Scintillating Sehwag as the greatest batting sensation of the day and may he continue to deliver big hundreds and continue to win the hearts of all cricket lovers.Let the purists who crib about his lack of technic be hanged!
